editDCR is also de file extension for Macromedia Director web files--Daniel G. 03:37, 24 January 2006 (UTC)
DCR really should not be merged with "List of Massachusetts State Parks" -- the agency encompasses more than State Parks, like parkways, watershed protection, etc. What makes more sense is to remove the list of state parks from the DCR article, and link to the "List of Massachusetts State Parks" article instead. Mass. State Parks
editI think that nearly all of the State Parks listed in this article need some cleanup/wfying done to them. It would be nice if someone could assist me in cleaning and fixing up these articles. ~ clearthought 17:14, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
- trying to do that now. moved everything to List of Massachusetts State Parks and I am modeling it on the List of Pennsylvania State Parks featured list. anyone want to help, that's where i will be. EraserGirl (talk) 16:55, 16 May 2009 (UTC)
List of parkways
editIt would be nice if this article had a canonical list of all roads maintained by the department; there are PDF maps you can refer to at List of numbered routes in Massachusetts. -- Beland 02:25, 20 February 2007 (UTC)
Interesting link from 1900 about the MDC at the time.
editInteresting link a back in time look at the park system in Mass in 1900.

Which bridges and parkways became transfered to MassDOT?
editI've been trying to untangle this structural spider's web that is the "agencies", "departments", "divisions", "executive offices", et. al of the Massachusetts government. Now, according to a sentence buried deep on the MassDOT's website, it says thiss new body will be "assuming responsibility for many of the bridges *and* parkways currently operated by the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR)"? So there's a chance that some of these could be under MassDOT now?? Note History section. *headache*. CaribDigita (talk) 01:16, 11 December 2009 (UTC)
- I'm currently assuming that the description from the paper is accurate: all non-pedestrian bridges formerly under DCR. I'd very much welcome specifics, if you can find them. - Denimadept (talk) 01:18, 11 December 2009 (UTC)
- Please see the text at MassDOT#Highway_Division, which lists the parkways transferred on November 1. Most of the actual roads within or connecting parks and reservations are still under the DCR. The legislation, http://www.mass.gov/legis/laws/seslaw09/sl090025.htm , lists these parkways and also the road bridges which eventually will be transferred upon completion of DCR design and engineering work, open the page and search "Section 176" to see Sections 176 and 177. That is about as official a source as can be found, the MassDOT site is a little tricky on the subject. Sswonk (talk) 02:20, 11 December 2009 (UTC)
- Looks like every regular bridge not under construction/renovation is already transferred, with the exceptions of those which are being worked on as follows: Boston University Bridge, River Street at Mother Brook, Woods Memorial Bridge, Craddock Bridge, Craige Dam Bridge, Lech Walesa/Mount Vernon Street Bridge, Patten’s Cove Bridge, Cheney Bridge, Mystic Valley Parkway over Alewife Brook, Neponset River Bridge, General Edwards Drawbridge, Trestle/Charles River Bridge and the Hugh Farren Bridge. The bridges must be transferred no later than December 31, 2014. - Denimadept (talk) 14:47, 11 December 2009 (UTC)
Clean Up and Comments
editAll the bridge, parkway, and etc lists should be moved to separate pages just like the List of Massachusetts State Parks. The layout is very confusing and spread out. - 164.223.71.1 (talk · contribs · WHOIS)
- Agreed. Infact, now that all of DCR's state and urban park land are one State Parks Division, all of the DCR parkways ought to be listed in parks. In reality, they always have been "state parks" (parks managed by the state. Bridges ought to be a different list- especially because many exist within parks (Longfellow Bridge is part of the Esplanade, for example)GriffinWrigglesworth (talk) 14:40, 11 November 2013 (UTC)

Department of Conservation and Recreation (Massachusetts) → Department of Conservation and Recreation – The Massachusetts state agency is the only one with this name, so the disambiguation is not needed per WP:CONCISE. – Calidum ¤ 06:26, 12 August 2016 (UTC)
- This is a contested technical request (permalink). Anthony Appleyard (talk) 10:44, 12 August 2016 (UTC)
- @Calidum: But there are departments with similar purposes, even if with other names, in many places. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 10:44, 12 August 2016 (UTC)
- Move to Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation have Department of Conservation and Recreation redirect here, per WP:NATURAL and WP:CONCISE. Ḉɱ̍ 2nd anniv. 17:47, 12 August 2016 (UTC)

The MDC was such a significant factor in the Boston area in the 70s-90s...
edit... it's astonishing how all of that history has been conflated to a single sentence in this article, as if nothing of consequence existed before the DCR. - Keith D. Tyler ¶ 20:38, 3 December 2023 (UTC)
