El Turco

edit

Why do they call Depor "El Turco"? Is there any special reason?--Anil Yasar (talk) 20:57, 19 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Club name

edit

According to all references I could find, the name is correct with the "La" rather than "A", so I have moved the page back to "La". Chris talk back 18:46, 7 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

You are correct and I agree with your move. Take a look at the club logo. Regards, Carioca 21:56, 12 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Transfers

edit

I have removed the list of recent transfers, as Wikipedia is not a news service. Oldelpaso 11:42, 2 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Louie Donowa

edit

Today I created an article for Louie Donowa. Does anyone have any information about his spell with Deportivo in the eighties? If so, feel free to add it........thanks! User:Demonicanglian 19:36, 20 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Team Kit

edit

The Team Kit being displayed is from last season and needs to be updated. I'd do it but I don't know how. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Depor23 (talkcontribs) 01:58, 11 February 2007 (UTC).Reply

I change the colour kit yet.

They do have a third kit which is rose pink and black. That should probably be added.

History

edit

I reverted the history of this article to the previous version. I wrote this earlier concerning the particular edit, but am certainly open to any changes, especially in terms of grammar and fluidity. Isaiah 23:49, 4 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hmm, it was taken almost (if not completely) word-for-word from the Depor official history; I assume that means plagiarism and it should be re-written? I would do something, but I feel I've done enough for the evening... Isaiah 23:54, 4 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
Here is the original version, in case someone wants to use it. Isaiah 23:55, 4 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

City name

edit

Yes, the official name of the club is Real Club Deportivo de La Coruña, S.A.D., but the official name of the city is: A Coruña. So I think the first paragraph should be changed by: Real Club Deportivo de La Coruña, S.A.D. (English: Royal Sports Club of A Coruña) is a Spanish football club from A Coruña, member of the LFP. The club was founded in 1906, and holds home games at the Riazor, with a capacity of 34,600 spectators. [in bold the changes]

2008 UEFA Intertoto Cup

edit

I haven't change because I am not 100% sure but in the 2008 UEFA Intertoto Cup information it says the champion of the competition was Braga from Portugal. If that is so why does it say that Deportivo was champion that year? The champion, according to what I have read is the club that goes further in the UEFA Cup, that was not the case of Deportivo. Should on remove this from Deportivo wiki? I believe so. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 188.83.228.120 (talk) 11:38, 29 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Name Change Proposal

edit

Proposing the idea of moving this article from "Deportivo de La Coruña" to "Real Club Deportivo de La Coruña". The full name of the club should be the name of the article with the shortened common name featured more prevalently within it. --Blackbox77 (talk) 03:59, 19 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

It's not the most common version of the name in English as per WP:COMMONNAME. For that matter, neither is the current name. Hack (talk) 11:23, 13 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Barcelona cheating

edit

Barcelona's actions can’t be considered cheating, it’s not cheating when you give someone a incentive to win, it is common practice in many leagues in the closing stages in many leagues around the world, maybe not in England, Germany and similar countries but in many countries including my own(Croatia) it happens quite regularly. The whole purpose of the sport to go out and fight for the result no matter the circumstances, and they obliged even if they had some additional motivation it’s not cheating, it could be considered bad practice but not cheating. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.207.35.32 (talk) 15:28, 2 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

– Uniformity. In English, when referring to these clubs, the preposition "de" (of) is omitted. Already the case with Atlético (de) Madrid. Relisted. BDD (talk) 20:32, 5 June 2013 (UTC) 81.38.177.218 (talk) 11:44, 17 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

The La refers to the city's name in Spanish - La Coruña. It is always written in upper-case — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.38.177.218 (talk) 21:06, 17 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
True, my mistake. That's what their official website says, no "de". Unreal7 (talk) 15:44, 2 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
  • Question - why does es.wp have "de La" for the first one (I haven't looked at the others), all the printed references suggest that the current title Deportivo de La Coruña is accurate. In ictu oculi (talk) 02:30, 18 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
Same for Celta de Vigo. In ictu oculi (talk) 02:31, 18 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
Oppose for "Recreativo de Huelva" since -wikipedia -llc = 177 English book results, the same test "Recreativo Huelva" gets only 61 English book results.
Also - another problem. I notice "Recreativo Huelva" gets hits in abbreviated listings of matches wheras "Recreativo de Huelva" gets hits in real text complete sentences, which is what we are supposed to go by (excluding hits in lists, section headings, contents tables), a sample test "Recreativo de Huelva is" -wikipedia -llc 2 results, vs 0 results. Is that true for all of the others as well? In ictu oculi (talk) 23:41, 29 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
  • Support - I believe that the proposed names are the common english names which is the standard based on WP:COMMONNAME. It states "The most common name for a subject, as determined by its prevalence in reliable English-language sources, is often used as a title because it is recognizable and natural." Kingjeff (talk) 05:59, 25 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
But are they? See above, is it in running text? e.g. "with Racing de Ferrol" -wikipedia -llc 2 results, "with Racing Ferrol" -wikipedia -llc 1 result. We'd expect abbreviated names to be more common in simple lists. In ictu oculi (talk) 02:49, 30 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
