Naming the article

If I have chosen the wrong name, please correct it. I was hopelessly confused after finding "Brigadier J.D.B. Smith", "Brigadier J. Desmond B. Smith" and "Brigadier Des Smith". In desperation I opted for his surname with initials. Night of the Big Wind (talk) 13:45, 28 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

His 12 October 1991 obituary in the Toronto Star lists him as Major-General Desmond Smith. He seems to have gone by Desmond, and moving this article to that might make sense given WP:COMMONNAME. I propose moving this article to Desmond Smith (Canadian general)--Abebenjoe (talk) 22:52, 23 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

I have no objection (as original author). I have been searching myself silly to find his daily first name, but could not find anything with certainty. This is why I had chosen for his initials and a redirect from "General Smith"... Night of the Big Wind _talk 23:27, 23 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
