West Germany

edit

Schrempff was born in the Federal Republic of Germany. A country named West Germany never existed. The FRG incorporated the five new Bundesländer (states) after reunification (cf. here). So the country in which Leverkusen lies never changed its name since Schrempff was born. It is only ever since reunification that people refer to the FRG as Germany since the opposing GDR (or 'East Germany') doesn't exist any longer (see here: '"Since, the current 16-state Federal Republic of Germany is simply called Germany."'). Therefore, there is no ambiguity in writing Germany as it nowadays only refers to the FRG - the country in which Schrempff was born. ´Jellotrees —Preceding comment was added at 13:27, 18 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Here's the thing

edit

The IMDb is quite thorough about these things, and I've seen absolutely no independent evidence that predates this Wikipedia article whatsoever that suggests that either the Married... With Children or German soap opera things are true. On the contrary, we have Mr. Schrempf himself saying that he had never previously appeared in a television program[1] Frankly, this should be an abject humiliation for Wikipedia -- we had blatantly incorrect, poorly and incorrectly or simply unsourced material, and it wasn't noticed or corrected until the article was mocked on national TV. We screwed up, guys. Try to prevent the damage from spreading further.--24.58.254.77 (talk) 04:44, 27 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Error in coaching years

edit

I noticed today that, while the article text says he started as an assistant coach in January 2006, the infobox says it was 2005. But when I went to correct it, I saw that we seem to have some kind of template here that automatically pulls in the link to the correct NBA seasons, and it automatically therefore says his career started in 2005 since his first coaching season was the 2005-2006 season. I can (or someone else can) hand correct this, of course -- replacing the template with the wiki markup to link to the 05-06 seasons while labeling that link 2006 instead of 2005. But is that not how we do this? Like, is it true in general that someone starting their career with an NBA team (as player or coach) will just be represented with the year that season began, rather than the actual year they started?

Basically I don't want to start a mess if there's larger reasons not to. But I also don't really love a situation where we have an infobox that directly contradicts the cited facts of the person's biography, even if it's something as minor as a single year in error. Any thoughts from folks who more routinely work on player/coach biographies, in particular? Jwrosenzweig (talk) 17:40, 20 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
