Dog Days

Unsourced content, IMDb used as a source, etc

I have been here for two years and the Diary film pages are one of, if not the, worst pages I have seen that is bombarded with so much original research, unverified claims and just nonsense. It's became a real chore to be the only one to watch these pages and clean up after IP hit and runs. Now we have an editor who claims that IMDb is reliable and should be used for unreleased films, despite the overwhelming consensus from WP:FILM not to use IMDb as a source. But yeah I'm the idiot for making sure this article stays sourced with reliable sources. New York Times and Allrovi are strongly preferred over IMDb. What is it that people fail to comprehend about IMDB? It is edited by regular people just like Wikipedia. They even carry a disclaimer for unreleased films that states, "Because this project is categorized as being in production, the data is subject to change; some data could be removed completely." [1]. As I said there is overwhelming support not to include cast copied from IMDb, so I mean, just give it up and stop making this an issue. —Mike Allen 09:20, 13 September 2011 (UTC)

Where exactly does it say in the link WP:FILM that IMDb is NOT a reliable source?..all they talk about is in relation to the plots, not the cast list ..please provide proof.. + one of the cast u removed has even mentioned it on his facebook that he is in the movie and even provided pics from the sets as well....so are u to say that Twitter and Facebook are also NOT reliable sources?..As a matter of fact IMDb is slightly more reliable that Wikipedia and i'm telling this via experience. i have contributed heavily to both sites and i'm well aware of what is more reliable..I have been here for nearly 5 year but i don't go around shouting that...--Stemoc (talk) 11:05, 13 September 2011 (UTC)

Guidelines on IMDB are here: WP:RS/IMDB. As for Twitter and Facebook, then their RS status depend on establishing their authenticity and the nature of their claims: WP:SOCIALMEDIA. I would say that a cast member claiming he is in a movie on Facebook/Twitter isn't reliable, because often many actors have found themselves on the cutting-room floor. I concur with Mike and Betty about not using IMDb. It's not that IMDb is always wrong, but especially for upcoming films, the cast list is a hodgepodge of different contributions (as detected by missing character names for different roles) and not readily verifiable. When the film is released, the cast list is fully fleshed out and verified. Before then, it is more verifiable to use other sources. IMDb does not break the news, so role announcements come from somewhere, may it be press releases or the trade papers. Erik (talk | contribs) 14:58, 14 September 2011 (UTC)

Box Office
