editThis article needs to be expanded to deal more fully with both kinds of digital storytelling, as well as adequately covering the debate over definitions of the term. --Dalziel 86 15:13, 31 October 2005 (UTC)
I'm a bit concerned this could become a linkdump for people wanting to promote their digital storytelling initiatives and businesses - the recently added link to the Telling Lives spinoff business is a good example. I would suggest that we mention by name only institutions and initiatives that could be considered major 'movement leaders' 210.49.99.54 22:01, 28 May 2006 (UTC)
Better definition
editWhat do folks think about this definition from the Educause document i added today? "Digital Storytelling is the practice of combining narrative with digital content, including images, sound, and video, to create a short movie, typically with a strong emotional component." I think it is better than our current definition. Thoughts?
definition
edit"Digital Storytelling refers to using new digital tools to help ordinary people to tell their own real-life stories."
eee... pretty generic... can refer to anything like twitter.... which is NOT ds --78.128.199.9 (talk) 02:12, 25 May 2009 (UTC)
As part of a class project that has knowledge of and experience with digital storytelling, I will be adding detailed information about using digital storytelling in primary and secondary education.JtMoto6 (talk) 02:44, 7 April 2010 (UTC)
I think that is an accurate description of digital storytelling. That goes along with the information added under primary and secondary education. sbosc —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sbosco10 (talk • contribs) 00:30, 3 May 2010 (UTC)
What about - "Digital storytelling is a narrative that takes advantage of digital creation or distribution tools that allow for interactivity, non-linear stories and new voices." - suggestiopn made on http://www.reddit.com/r/digitalstorytelling/ — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:D:AA00:1E0:71D9:B11E:F289:A75A (talk) 17:46, 27 May 2014 (UTC)
The Voice Library
editAn editor is insisting that we include a paragraph telling readers that "The Voice Library (TVL) launched two, ongoing, social-giving projects in 2014." It may be promotional (especially since it's been added by a new editor who has begin an edit war to retain the material) and it doesn't seem appropriate for an encyclopedia article to focus on new projects. Thoughts? ElKevbo (talk) 17:40, 17 June 2014 (UTC)
- Sorry for the appearance of an "editing war" but in fact I was making corrections myself -- my first post. No warring is going on. The material is placed in "Place-based digital storytelling" after a post that reports similar content -- hence, the choice of location rather than within the main part of the article. If this is inappropriate for this section, I'm very happy to learn more. Thanks. Chan Hill (talk) 18:20, 17 June 2014 (UTC)
- My contention is that it's simply inappropriate for this - or nearly any other - encyclopedia article. It doesn't seem like something that is essential for readers to know about this topic. ElKevbo (talk) 18:48, 17 June 2014 (UTC)
Because I am a new contributor to Wikipedia and still am learning its protocols, possibly you could explain to me why in this section this post about TVL is fundamentally different from the The Canadian Film Centre's New Media Lab post immediately preceding it. Thanks. 65.175.219.227 (talk) 17:21, 20 June 2014 (UTC)
