Isn't Dirk technically a free agent right now?

He has a contract until the 2014/15 season.

Personal life

edit

If there is a section like that, it should be honest. By honest I mean it should include all things of general interest that were reported in the media, including the relationship with Cristal Taylor. There is no sense writing exactly how long Dirk was together with his first girl friend including the reason why they broke up etc. and not even mentioning the relationship with Taylor which was a huge story. If Dirk's private life should be protected, then this section should be deleted. If it exists, however, it should contain all the facts, not only the "nice" ones.--Bernardoni (talk) 20:55, 17 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

I agree. Maybe his sister/manager manages this page too? Surely not. Mayumashu (talk) 13:22, 20 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
I agree as well. I just watched the documentary Nowitzki: The Perfect Shot on Netflix and came to this Wikipedia article afterwards to follow up on more details ... Specifically about the Cristal Taylor relationship, among other things. The documentary implied Nowitzki was basically engaged to Taylor when his mentor Geschwindner discovered she had undisclosed ongoing legal issues. Anyway, I came here seeking elaboration and was disappointed to find mention of both an early relationship and of Nowitzki's present marriage but no mention at all of his relationship with Taylor which the film had portrayed as having had major media coverage (so much so that Nowitzki and Geschwindner took a remote vacation abroad together to get distance from the situation). Seems to me that the omission of Nowitzki's -- quite significant -- relationship with Taylor leaves a glaring gap in something aspiring to be an encyclopedic article. It even crossed my mind at first to wonder if some publicist had slipped in and scrubbed such information from the article for some sort of PR 'whitewashing' purpose. If one adds properly referenced information about the relationship will it be allowed to stand or has there been some previous decision/consensus to bar such from the record? --Kevjonesin (talk) 12:33, 9 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

I'm a big Dirk fan. But agree if there is a personal section, which there should be, it should include the relationship with Taylor. That was a big story. Bgbg4444 (talk) 22:57, 12 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

This article is almost endless. There is a lot of minutiae that should be trimmed. I have tagged the page accordingly and will work on it. SunCrow (talk) 06:19, 12 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

Editor SunCrow is correct. I removed the following text, "Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Nowitzki are the only players to achieve four consecutive 30-point, 15-rebound post-season games (2001–2002)." It is a synthesis from the cited sources, rendering threads to the 5/14/01 box score, in which Nowitzki scored 42 points and got 18 rebounds, in the Mavs semi-final loss to San Antonio, and to the first round games against the Kings the next year. There he scored 30 or more and got 15 more rebounds in his next three playoff games, 4/21 (30 & 15), 4/24 (31 & 15) & 4/28 2002 (39 & 17). It would take hours to chase down specifics of Kareem's record(s?) of similarly consecutive games, for which the original editor gave no citation, and which could have happened once or more frequently, save for a year or two, in the decade 1970-1980. The stat itself is obscure and esoteric and not necessary for the article. Nowitzki will probably play for the Mavs in December, and if so, it would mark his 21st season in the NBA. Re-tag

edit

Having trimmed excess content from the article, I have removed the tag for excessive detail. I have now tagged the article for needing additional citations. There is a lot of material that I think belongs here but that needs sources. SunCrow (talk) 05:18, 26 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

2019 Career Statistics

edit

Why is there no section for 2018-2019 points and statistics? I think it should be added. Also, maybe overall career statistics and position in those in a table format.
