Coming Out

edit

Honestly kinda worried if it will even come out. Word started coming out at the start of the year, and now it’s coming out late next month? This soon from ‘Donda’? I think this will become another Yandhi, TurboGrafx, Good Ass Job… need I go on? 2603:6011:A400:897:C059:55BF:E9C0:B934 (talk) 20:32, 27 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

Whether it is or not will obviously be uncertain until the date or an announcement comes, but this has received significant coverage so the article can remain in existance. --K. Peake 07:55, 17 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

"Sequel"

edit

I dont know, but I am pretty sure you can regard Late Registration and Graduations sequels in a trilogy. 46.9.155.43 (talk) 12:08, 28 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

Leaked Song Names

edit

Some of the names for the leaked songs are fanmade. For example, "Windpipe"is just what people called the song since it says the word windpipe in it 174.66.101.227 (talk) 15:20, 28 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

Donda II instead?

edit

I like the way the roman numeral looks better, and plus Yeezus II also had the roman numeral, not the number, so I think it would be appropriate Nickiandyeoutsold (talk) 05:49, 19 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

Ye has called it Donda 2 or DONDA2 on Instagram countless times. - Nicenice23 (talk) 11:09, 19 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

Release Date

edit

It would be better if the release date be February 23, 2022 - TBD instead of just February 23, 2022 considering that only four songs has been released, instead of the full album. Jrg (talk) 03:34, 24 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

Production credits

edit

Are there any citations at all backing these production credits up? TreeLethargy (talk) 10:16, 25 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

I think it's just assumptions mixed in with social media posts from some people. I assume they're taken directly from Genius -Nicenice23 (talk) 10:34, 25 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

"City of God" as first single

edit

tl;dr "City of God" should not be listed as a Donda 2 single

"City of God" was released as lead single for Fivio Foreign's upcoming album B.I.B.L.E. through Rich Fish and Columbia Records. Even though the song is included on Donda 2 (at least on the currently available Stem Player release), there is little evidence that "City of God" is meant as official single for Donda 2. Ye himself has referred to the song as Fivio's single and the labels through which the single was released do not indicate any connection to Donda 2 or Ye. IMHO it should not be listed as official single for Donda 2, but with the relatively unique release strategy for Donda 2 it might be worth to discuss this issue first. Reception?

edit

What’s the point of adding reception right now? The album is currently unfinished and actively being recorded, honestly it even being fully released is quite a stretch as well! If we do keep the reception tab, we should leave the option open for reanalysis of the record once formally completed (as stated by West and his team) 2600:6C56:5800:1B03:8863:87ED:A853:A84 (talk) 02:03, 1 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

HipHopDX in-text citation doesn't refer to what publication it was posted in, just the author's last name. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.70.23.28 (talk) 19:31, 4 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

Recording date

edit

The album's recording is listed as having started in January 2022 because that is what reliable sources confirm; please do not change this unless you can find a source detailing a different beginning date. --K. Peake 10:10, 1 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

Piracy

edit

Should the piracy stats be listed under release and promotion or reception, as they are public reception so the latter can be titled without the word critical? --K. Peake 11:13, 4 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

Comments

edit
  • Per WP:CITELEAD, please source the last sentence of the lead that is potentially controversially.
  • Wikilink pirated in the lede to Music piracy.
  • Remove or replace citation #4 per Wikipedia:Reliable_sources/Perennial_sources#Asian_News_International.
  • Remove record executive and.
  • Track listing sub-sections 'Uncredited features' and 'Samples' both needs references for each bullet.
  • The first paragraph of the Music and themes section would more fitting in the Critical reception section. The last two sentences of the first paragraph at least should be moved.
  • FormalDude I would also like to mention that I have been told to remove repeated wikilinks for citations in the past, so this would potentially lead to back and forth debates, also are there any more comments you have left? --K. Peake 10:00, 10 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

Track listing

edit

It seems like the precedent for track listings on other albums on Wikipedia is to acknowledge the original track listing in all contexts, which in this case would include "Keep It Burning". One option would be to include it and "Eazy" in one track listing and put in parentheses which version of the album they are on, another would be to include both track listings in their entirety. That just seems to me the way it's done. YouCanDoBetter (talk) 21:17, 19 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

delete article?

edit

ye has made no news on this album since march, we’re in the middle of may. i think it’s safe to say it’s been scrapped as this is the treatment his albums get when he decides it’s not worth his time anymore.

i think a new album will come about in the next few months and take the title of his eleventh studio album. Nickiandyeoutsold (talk) 16:26, 15 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Nickiandyeoutsold: Just because an album flopped doesn't mean it gets swept under the rug. I see significant coverage and no reason to delete. —C.Fred (talk) 11:41, 16 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

d2 did not flop, it isn’t even released fully plus it sold 45k first week, and the only way to contribute to that number was to buy a $200 stem player which sold very well.. L Nickiandyeoutsold (talk) 12:51, 16 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Nickiandyeoutsold: All of which is verifiable. So why delete this article? —C.Fred (talk) 16:52, 16 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

Studio album?

edit

Seems like a lot of revisions and zero talk so I took the liberty of creating a place to argue in good faith. Please everyone stop the live edit war. I'd prefer NOT to full protect this, since I suspect consensus can quickly be measured in this thread. I have no interest in a specific outcome. BusterD (talk) 19:36, 18 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

It wasn't really an edit war, just multiple experienced editors reverting changes that had been made by a single editor who misunderstood how the TYPE field in the Album Infobox works. It's also untrue that there was no "talk" about the dispute, as it can be seen clearly in the edit summary history. I think we straightened it out at that editor's personal talk page. ---DOOMSDAYER520 (TALK|CONTRIBS) 16:31, 22 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

"Studio" or "demo" album?

edit

I'm asking this even though I have nothing against the current consensus for two reasons; to learn exactly where and how the decision for its classification came about, and perhaps to request if this could be considered a FAQ; I think a lot of fans would be a little confused of it called a demo, and not just by reviewers. I also found it very strange that a demo album is featured in a topic that usually consists only of studio albums when I feel it contradicts West's discography section of Donda 2 separated. Come to think of it, I'm asking as well whether Donda 2 should be removed from said topic as a result. Carlinal (talk) 05:03, 12 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
