no biography?

just curous why it was taken out, like said before, the article doesn't talk about DK himself at all. I thought that adding a bio would help that problem. If I'm missing something, than please point it out.

It was taken out because some jerk found it too "in-universe" for his tastes, and he scrapped it completely. Thanks for disregarding my work, whoever you are. I still believe this article should have a biography section, I don't care if he's fictional; this article is still about the character. PsychoJosh 09:51, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

well, I just looked at the mario page, and it looks professional, it tells info on every aspect of him. this page doesn't say a thing about DK. I really think it needs to fixed. Metooduke 21:33, 27 June 2007 (UTC)

Seriously.... the article about king k-rool is bigger than this article on donkey kong —Preceding unsigned comment added by 220.239.237.225 (talk) 12:00, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

Vandalism attack

Just thought I'd let you guys know this. I was looking at Mario's page, and followed a link that said Donkey Kong. It brought me here. I read a little bit, and broke out lauging after the second line. It said "Donkey Kong is a very large, hairy, muscular penis". I kept reading, and most of the topic was vandalised, saying things like "Donkey Kong was created by my asshairs". So I fixed it up. No more vandalism. But here's the thing. I'm not horribly knowledgable about Donkey Kong, so some things I replaced the swear words with may not be true. Could someone go in and fix it for me? Thanks.Chaos_shadow 7:07, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

I just thought I'd point out that you could've hit undo near the top of the page history, so I'll take care of it quickly. I know you worked to fix this article diligently, but I'm going to have to revert it to the way it was before your edit. So don't take it personally, but there may have been some vandalism you've missed for whatever reason. Contact me at my talk page if you have any questions. Kochdude388 02:12, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
That's fine. Now I know I can do that.
    Chaos_shadow 02:12, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

Article has nothing to do with DK himself

Since there are already articles about the games and other things bearing his name, I feel this article needs to be about the CHARACTER HIMSELF and less about useless non-information like what movies and things mentioned his name. Preferably one could write the story of all his games and create a biography of him based on the info therein. I personally believe there's more to DK than just a big gorilla that eats fruits and punches crocodiles. Again, THIS ARTICLE SHOULD BE ABOUT THE CHARACTER, NOT THE GAMES HE'S BEEN IN, WE HAVE THE DONKEY KONG SERIES PAGE FOR THAT. THE "OTHER VERSIONS OF DONKEY KONG" STUFF IS USELESS TOO, PLEASE DON'T EDIT EITHER OF THESE BACK INTO THE ARTICLE AGAIN. Also, why the hell was this part of WikiProject Baseball? What's the matter with you people? PsychoJosh 13:43, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

I AGREE!!! Let's do that. ~ A random wikipedier

Well, due to your concern, I added the Biography section. It has flaws and could sure be cleaned up, but I hope that this leads to a new direction for this entry. Metooduke 22:15, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

64-bit era

The inclusion of the Donkey Kong Arcade game in DK64 should not be described as an easter egg, as the arcade game must be played to access the final boss.

Discussion from DKU

See also Stephen Hawking? Huh? ~~ShiriTalk~~ 07:19, Apr 2, 2005 (UTC)

That was most likely a joke from Donkey Kong Universe, who invented the term "DKU". --Trogga 21:05, 31 May 2005 (UTC)

It's also the only site that believes all Rare cameos exist in the world of Donkey Kong Country, with the arcade games and Mario games being excluded. It's more fancruft than factual information.
Should the information remain in the article? It could be misleading to non-fans of the games. Agent CH 22:36, 17 October 2005 (UTC)

Alphabetization

Ddespie@san.rr.com changed this article to alphabetize in categories under "Kong" instead of "Donkey Kong". I reverted this change and Ddespie@san.rr.com changed it back with no edit summary. Rather than start an edit war, I would like to reach a consensus here. I see no reason to alphabetize under "Kong". If I were looking up Donkey Kong in an index, I would turn to the Ds, not the Ks. This also affects many other Kong articles, such as Diddy Kong. Any comments? --Pagrashtak 22:51, 18 August 2005 (UTC)

Donkey Kong TV Tokyo Anime Series

http://web.archive.org/web/20000510124642/www.tv-tokyo.co.jp/anime/donky.html

Donkey Kong Jungle Beat DK artwork

In the "Sequels and spin-offs" section, next to the description of Donkey Kong Jungle Beat, can I add this picture of Donkey Kong with the caption "Donkey Kong as he appears in Donkey Kong Jungle Beat"? - NES Boy 17:34, 18 December 2005 (UTC)

Series or character?

Just curious. This seems to cover the entire series. I also notice that the Donkey Kong template has no series page, unlike Mario Kart or Mario Tennis. So if this is turned into a series page, it should be renamed "Donkey Kong series" and Donkey Kong should get a separate article. Hbdragon88 03:09, 31 December 2005 (UTC)

Agreed. I'll split the articles between Donkey Kong the character and Donkey Kong the series.--TBCTaLk?!? 02:24, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

Reintroduction into the Mario universe

The article currently states that this occurred with Mario Kart 64, which is false. "Donkey Kong Junior", wearing a white shirt (instead of a tie) was in the original Super Mario Kart in 1992. --67.71.37.13 06:54, 29 January 2006 (UTC)

Super Mario Kart was before the Rareware games, starting with Donkey Kong Country in 1994.--XD375 20:48, 2 July 2006 (UTC)

Probable linkspam.

I saw that a user, 68.111.108.131, has been adding links to a site called "Donkey Kong Megasite" to Donkey Kong articles recently. The same user added the link to this article on February 15th, around the same day that the site was relaunched after being down since November 2004. Either they are really quick, or affiliated. The edits tend to place the site as the first in the links. If it doesn't, they do move it there later. I'm going to remove it from this article, and all the others. A google string search for the string "Donkey Kong Megasite" gets 1270 hits.--Drat (Talk) 13:02, 27 February 2006 (UTC)

New games

DK Bongo Blast and Mario VS Donkey Kong 2 : March of the Minis have been announced.--84.190.191.200 17:14, 10 May 2006 (UTC)

What happened?

Why does this article have practically no info on his character and game appearances and tons on his TV appearances and him in pop culture? Did someone remove it?

The info on his game appearances have been moved to Donkey Kong series, similar to what was done with the Mario, Sonic, and and other video game related articles. The info on his character, however, has been kept under the "Overview" section.--TBCTaLk?!? 07:40, 8 August 2006 (UTC)

Character?

This "info on his character" seems limited only to be descriptions of his name and info about the Donkey Kong arcade game. I suggest moving some stuff to the article about the arcade game and adding some character info about his more recent appearances, and how he's acted other titles that arent just the arcade.

And if you follow the DKC storyline, the current DK isn't even the original to begin with anyway!-SSY

The fact is that ever since Rare left, Donkey Kong no longer has a personality. He's just "generic gorilla who either kidnaps maidens or runs around beating stuff up for no good reason". Thus, unless we made a character page about the DKC Donkey Kong, we wouldn't have much to write, and even then we'd also have to mention teh controversy surrounding the changes he underwent after Rare's departure. Hydragon 02:42, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

Ssbm info?

Why is there no info of him in ssbm(super smash bros melee)? Most of the other characters have one.

You're right. You know what else is missing? The cameo section (sorry if someone already said this.) Oh, and sign next time, please. Anyways, yeah let's do that. you're not colorblind, it's colored this way. Misteryoshi 00:28, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

"Seiyuu"?

In Donkey Kong Jungle Beat and onwards, he is voiced by veteran seiyuu Takashi Nagasako. - What's a "seiyuu"? Is it Japanese? Shouldn't that be in English? -- Nick15 09:59, 28 November 2006 (UTC)

No. "Seiyuu" is Japanese for "voice actor" (in this context), and it's the appropriate term for referencing any Japanese voice actor. PsychoJosh 00:13, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

Narcissist?

In the categories section, I noticed the category "Fictional Narcissists". I'm not exactly sure how Donkey Kong is a narcissist in any sense of the word. Could somebody please explain? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Hydragon (talkcontribs) 03:52, 22 January 2007 (UTC).

KKK and DK

does anyone else feel this link between DK and KKK is a bit of a stretch? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 202.4.74.65 (talk) 17:53, 25 January 2007 (UTC).

Assuming that KKK stands for Ku Klux Klan, then yes, it is. What does that have to do with anything anyway? Kochdude388 22:21, 1 March 2007 (UTC)
Dk is black right? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 68.194.189.42 (talk) 00:45, 5 April 2007 (UTC).
No, he's an ape. Man, this doesn't make any sense... --Luigifan 01:07, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
I highly doubt that this was a serious concern in the first place... --Zomic_13 01:28, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
Given the fact that Gorilla/Monkey is an occasional racist slur, I seriously doubt it. Although if you combine that with the fact that he apparently enjoys rap music, you wonder is Nintendo is trying to say something...153.106.4.94 00:36, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

Stub?

Does anyone else think that this page should not be classified as a stub? I know it is a lot shorter than other character articles (such as Mario, Luigi, Link, etc) and it probably could (and should be expanded), but it still has a fair amount of info. Generally, in my experience here, stubs only have a few lines and only briefly talk about the subject. I suppose this article could be borderline and depend on people's opinions. Thoughts? Zomic_13 15:46, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

This issue has been taken care of, as someone agreed and removed the stub tag. Zomic_13 22:35, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

There is a tag in the external links section suggesting that it should be cleaned-up. External links seem to be something that requires discussion before adding or removing, so post your opinions. Vandalism

This article appears to be getting a lot of vandalism. What do other people think should be done, cos protection against edits by IPs would help. Stwalkerster 14:40, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

It is getting a fair amount, but it seems manageable. I don't think semi-protect is necessary just yet. --

April

There's this line of text at the bottom of the article that says "By: Junaid Merchant". It's been on for a while, so wonder why it's not deleted. Not just vandalism, but whoever this Junaid person is they took ownership of this article as well. Is this sneaky vandalism? --Hasek is the best 22:24, 5 April 2007 (UTC)

Teeth

I think its very odd that throughout various games Donkey Kong has appeared either with or without teeth! For example in the character art for mario party 6 he has teeth, but in the art for mario party 9 they are sompletely absent! Should this be mentioned in the article? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 71.183.44.244 (talk) 21:57, 6 May 2007 (UTC).

Donkey Kong first appeared with teeth in Mario Party 4. This was immediately following Rare's purchase by Microsoft, and Nintendo found it necessary to modify his design slightly. PsychoJosh 09:56, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

changed it back

I changed the article back to its original form without all the vandalism.

Chronology?

The chronology section is confusing: "Donkey Kong first appeared in the sequel to Donkey Kong. He was on a mission to rescue Cranky Kong who was then Donkey Kong". What? 89.138.158.96 02:54, 27 May 2007 (UTC)

That's my section.
I'm working on it.
Cranky Kong was named Donkey Kong back in the 80's.
Rare and Nintendo have stated that Cranky Kong is the original Donkey Kong. Angry Sun 02:58, 27 May 2007 (UTC)
Yes, and then Nintendo scrapped the idea of Cranky Kong being the original DK because it screwed up the chronology and it hasn't been reflected at all in later games, instead showing Cranky as just some geriatric old ape that the other Kongs look up to. PsychoJosh 09:54, 12 June 2007 (UTC)
The "ancestry" bit is fine now, but there's really a lot to do in the chronology. Even K. Rool has more information about game appearances. I thought I could do it, but there's just so much information. Good luck!
89.138.158.96 04:35, 27 May 2007 (UTC)

Yes. I know.

Peicing together a correct timeline is very hard. Luckily I have a list somewhere. Angry Sun 14:53, 27 May 2007 (UTC)

Looks like you don't want any help. I'll leave it alone. 89.139.223.215 22:18, 27 May 2007 (UTC)

I like help.

I just don't want it confusing. Angry Sun 22:38, 27 May 2007 (UTC)

Nintendo has yet to actually state "Cranky Kong is not the Arcade Donkey Kong" or "Donkey Kong Jr. is not the modern Donkey Kong". They just don't mention it as much as Rare did. 208.101.140.76 19:43, 11 July 2007 (UTC)

In-universe

The chronology is confusing and relies too much on an in-universe perspective. Cranky Kong WASN'T originally called Donkey Kong, the original Donkey Kong simply became Cranky Kong in Donkey Kong Country. Jonny2x4 08:03, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

Well then that means that he was once called Donkey Kong. You can't have a name change and then forget your original name. Angry Sun 16:05, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

And this is what I called "missing the point". You seem to concentrate solely on the modern Donkey Kong, while trivializing the original Donkey Kong completely. Not only that, you're writing the article completely from an in-universe perspective, which goes agaisn't the Manual of Style. You might want to read that before continuing any further. Jonny2x4 16:12, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
Finally some sense. Please keep Jonny2x4's edits. Isaac 21:10, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

This article is supposed to be about Donkey Kong. Not Cranky. Angry Sun 16:17, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

That's exactly my point. There's a character called Donkey Kong in DK1, DK Jr and DK3. And there's another character with the same name in Donkey Kong Country series. They might be different individuals, but they're both called Donkey Kong. Jonny2x4 18:26, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

Please Help :)

There used to be a lot of 3D pictures on here of the kong family. Now, most of them are either gone or the quality has gone down. There was donkey kong junior in his white jumper, baby kong, and all the animal buddies. I can't find any of the good pictures anymore! ~dinkykong 19:49, 31 May 2007

You might want to take a look at the Kongs page. Isaac 11:40, 1 June 2007 (UTC
Yes, I have looked at those pictures but there used to be 3D pictures of DK junior, wrinkly, candy, baby, cranky, and the animal buddies. Now, they've vanished. --Dinkykong 22:59, 1 June 2007 (UTC)
Because they aren't notable.
Dk Jr. = DK anyway. Angry Sun 23:40, 1 June 2007 (UTC)
You are quite cranky. Well, there used to be a picture of Donkey Kong when he was a young little tike in a white outfit, and I was hoping some true donkey kong fan could help me getting pictures of everyone... --Dinkykong 23:36, 1 June 2007 (UTC)
Who said I wasn't a true fan? Angry Sun 23:40, 1 June 2007 (UTC)
you might want to look on the SSBM trophies, I beleive there was one for DKjr. Metooduke 23:45, 1 June 2007 (UTC)
And SSBM had errata in their trophies so don't use that for evidence. Angry Sun 23:53, 1 June 2007 (UTC)
Were you looking for these? Isaac 10:39, 2 June 2007 (UTC)

Thank you so much. :) That was very helpful.

Move

I believe that because the series, character, and video game are not noticeably far apart in notability or notoriety, Donkey Kong should be made into a disambig page, while this should be Donkey Kong (character). - A Link to the Past (talk) 06:35, 10 June 2007 (UTC)

Contested, a quick search on google's images [2] turns up the video games and video game character a lot more than the character from the animation series. Wouldn't it make more sense for the featured character to hold the Donkey Kong title? Lord Sesshomaru
Of course not. But now that you mention it, that's the character, the series, the TV series, the original video game, and the Game Boy video game. The character is not noticeably more popular than the other subjects. - A Link to the Past (talk) 19:03, 10 June 2007 (UTC)
This is similar to the move dispute at Talk:Resident Evil (series). See there and try to make out something that can be linked to here. Lord Sesshomaru
No it isn't - that was to put the series article at the main article, which should not be done. This is acknowledging that the character is not by far the most common usage.

In the end, it would be.

Donkey Kong (video game) Donkey Kong (Game Boy game) Donkey Kong (series) Donkey Kong (TV series) Donkey Kong (character)

I see nothing wrong. The original DK is one of the most well-known and referenced video games ever made. That is enough to say that the character is not so much more popular than the video game. - A Link to the Past (talk) 19:43, 10 June 2007 (UTC)

What?

At the very bottom of the History section of the article, it says "Donkey kong was stationed in Vietnam in the early 1750's and was diagnosed with AIDS in 1985." I'm... pretty sure that that's not supposed to be there. <_<
