Rename Page?

edit

I'm wondering whether this page shouldn't be renamed "Up Your Alley Street Fair," and Dore Alley Fair might redirect to that page. I have just been doing some reading and have learned that Up Your Alley Street Fair was originally produced in 1985 on Ringold Alley, and moved to its current location in 1987. Therefore from the point of view of this article taking a more encyclopedic perspective, this might be the more accurate way to go. Dpmath (talk) 22:08, 17 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Unsure although people generally refer to as Dore Alley fair. Banjeboi 08:14, 26 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Reference to other Street Fairs

I agree that there's room for more concrete information on this page, though I'm also not sure just how extensive a Wikipedia article on Dore Alley is ever going to be; let's face it, it's a fairly minor phenomenon, even for the Dore Alley fair enthusiast such as myself. My reason for originally deleting the line that someone has restored as: This fair is one of many large neighborhood street fairs San Francisco has weekly at the end of summer, ending with the Castro Street Fair the first weekend of October, is that it seemed to me to be exceedingly general, not really contributing specific information to this page. And it reads a little like a tourist brochure. Left as it is, it raises a number of questions: are the various street fairs coordinated in some way? Why are only LGBT street fairs mentioned in this connection (Folsom, Castro, Dore)? If Up Your Alley is connected to the broader pattern of San Francisco neighborhood festivals, these questions and the other fairs should be addressed.

And lastly, the third weekend in July is hardly the "end of summer," so I think that this sentence should at the very least be reworded. Dpmath (talk) 22:08, 17 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Benjiboi, thanks for addressing my earlier comments and providing more information. I wonder whether you might be able to go one step further---what effect has the increased cooperation you write of upon the Dore Alley Fair? This information would help bring the discussion back to the topic at hand, rather than leading outward and elsewhere. Dpmath (talk) 04:24, 18 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
