president
editwould it be of noteworthy to notice the president is black? What would have been the chances of this if Obama didn't win? Like, was that meant to be Obama giving his blessing or just "a" president giving his blessing? I guess, what i mean is, was Michael Dorn playing Obama or just a president? 121.44.117.61 (talk) 13:37, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
- Pure speculation at this point, and probably coincidental, just like Palmer in 24. — Edokter • Talk • 15:34, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
- It is completely pointless to note the race of the President unless it plays a role in the story of the show (as it was when Palmer was President on 24 or when Geena Davis had that whole show dedicated to the premise of a female President). -- TRTX T / C 17:16, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
- Until we have something significant, like one of the writers saying they wanted a black president because of Obama's election, it's just pure speculation. EVula // talk // ☯ // 18:16, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
- Indeed, it seems like a popular Hollywood cliché nowadays, ever since The Fifth Element (1997) and Deep Impact (1998), to show a black president. Now that Obama is president, you might say that it's life imitating art, rather than the other way around. | Loadmaster (talk) 23:32, 22 December 2008 (UTC)
- The premise of the show has always been ordinary people living in the ordinary world suddenly have extra-ordinary abilities. The world described has always been the "real" world. Everything from Times Square to Tokyo. The casting was just trying to be as "realistic" as possible. IMHO casting LeVar Burton would have been more realistic than Michael Dorn. But who knows about availability. They could have ended up casting Patrick Stewart as president and Marina Sirtis as VP if things had gone differently. At this point everything is speculation. I would suggest that any interested fans pay attention to any interviews for something we could document. Also if you see any writers at any conventions or other events, ask them directly Claffey27 (talk) 17:07, 27 December 2008 (UTC)
Plot is WAY too long
editI thought Wikipedia articles were supposed to be summaries, not a transcript... this article goes into insignificant detail such as what was used to kill characters or what part of the body was injured. 17:16, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
Sylar sound effect
editRight after Sylar kills Doyle, he suddenly appears behind Meredith. There's a specific sound effect there... I know I've heard it before. Am I crazy? EVula // talk // ☯ // 18:34, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
- The soft, metallic whoosh... doesn't ring a bell. But it is probably used in the series before. — Edokter • Talk • 23:21, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
- I think it's one of the usual Sylar sound effects, when he appears from behind people. I'm fairly certain I heard it when Sylar appears behind Claire in her house to take her power. -- WORMMЯOW 09:15, 17 December 2008 (UTC)
Daphne time travel problem
editDaphne uses Ando's newly acquired powers to go back in time to save Hiro. This is explained as a consequence of Daphne traveling so fast that she goes back in time. (This is not actually consistent with Einstein's theory of Relativity, as she would not be able to go faster than the speed of light, but this impossibility is not important to the fictional setting of the story.) However, it is not explained how they return to the future (present time) from the past. Could this be considered an error, or simply a plot device that is not fully explained? | Loadmaster (talk) 22:18, 22 December 2008 (UTC)
- The latter, as you point out they're defying the laws of physics already, why not defy them to make the plot work. Basically, Ando + Daphne = Time Travel. -- WORMMЯOW 08:51, 23 December 2008 (UTC)
- Well, yes, the entire premise of genetic mutations embuing people with superhuman abilities is blatant violations of the laws of physics (e.g., which gene combination codes for a protein to nullify gravity?). My point was that Daphne's forward time travel looks like an inconsistency within the fictional framework established by the story. On the other hand, thinking about it a bit further, if she traveled very fast but still less than c, she would experience time dilation and thus effectively move forward in time. | Loadmaster (talk) 17:22, 24 December 2008 (UTC)
