Failed GA
editThis article is a fair way away from GA status
- The article has a severe lack of references. Many sections and paragraphs have no references at all and the refs that are there are incomplete. The publisher information.
- The article is not written in a neutral POV but is written in a strong marketing style. There are sections such as "brainchild" and talking about Asoka and the Guptas in glowing terms that are not encyclopedic but have too much WP:PEACOCK
- There should not be two pictures on both sides of the article, as there is in the lead. That sort of cramped writing is not in line with GA expectations
- There are a large number of grammar errors due to missing contractions and prepositions in the text.
- The lead needs to be larger to better summarise the article and many of the sentences in the lead are short and do not connect ideas with the adjoining circle.
- One line sentences need to be integrated into paragraphs or expanded into their own paragraphs.
- "Two mighty rivers" "It all started with the dreamer first " etc are POV
- The demographics need expanding to include things like the % of young and old people. and religion
- The writing style needs to be drier rather than the current "entertaining" approach
- There are a variety of MOS violations in the article.

Durgapur, West Bengal → Durgapur – per WP:PRIMARYTOPIC - While all the other topics related to Durgapur, WB are obviously not the primary topic as per existing usage conventions; Durgapur, Angul and Durgapur, Nepal are small villages. Durgapur, Netrokona and Durgapur, Rajshahi are sub-counties/sub-district entities and must be moved to appropriate pages if needed. Durgapur, West Bengal on the other hand is a city with population of around 0.6 million (6 Lakhs) and an important industrial city in India. Amartyabag TALK2ME 05:20, 16 December 2012 (UTC)
- Suppport: Since Google also thinks Durgapur means Durgapur city of West Bengal. Other entries can be added in Durgapur (disambiguation)

- Support nomination's rationale. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {T/C} 05:44, 17 December 2012 (UTC)
- Support per nom. The city is definitely the primary topic. --regentspark (comment) 18:25, 17 December 2012 (UTC)

This article is in desparate need of in-line citations, as well as referencing. There may be other problems with the article also, but at least, it appears to have majority of the material needed for a later comprehensive article. Best of luck improving it from here - Ncmvocalist (talk) 00:04, 15 February 2008 (UTC) |

Added references for Kazi Nazrul Islam Airport, Panagarh Air Force Base, and religious data.
editThe religious data source needs further review, in my opinion, because the website the original editor seems to have taken the data from (I am using the source I am to back up that data), has advertisements, and its status is dubious.
Durgapur vs. Durgapur subdivision - erroneous statistics?
editThe recent edit-warring from an IP editor seems to be adding statistical values for Durgapur subdivision here in the Durgapur article. Could someone knowledgeable double-check the edits, clarify the distinction between the two topics, and fix the possibly erroneous edits? I am at 3RR but the values seem likely false. Can we just add history of the city?
editThe rich history of Durgapur must be cherished by one and all.The emergence of the city must be known to all.Keeping it in mind, I added about 1000 words with plenty of links. But you all see some Chandan Guha has deleted my contents and has asked for VERIFIABLE data.He must verify himself first. I doubt if he has ever been to Durgapur. He termed the works of Dr B.C. Roy as enlisted by me to be "bogus" information. It is a calculated insult to the framer of this city. I am adding it again hope his sense tells him not to do so.If he does it again I request you all to again add whatever I did . Soham Chongder (talk) 02:39, 2 March 2019 (UTC)
- Please see Wikipedia:Verfiability. Cheers. - Chandan Guha (talk) 07:16, 2 March 2019 (UTC)
Does Durgapur have a population of 12 lakhs at all?
editI got it on a census webpage to be 566,517 .Has it considerably increased? If it is so then Durgapur is the 2nd most populated city of West Bengal after Kolkata. Do look into it and confirm Soham Chongder (talk) 09:52, 10 March 2019 (UTC)
- @Soham Chongder: see my previous question above at "Durgapur vs. Durgapur subdivision - erroneous statistics?". The new values, recently added by an IP editor, are most likely a mixup. I have restored the original values - the provided statistical references clearly verify the lower values. I have also added 2 Wiki-links to the subdivision article to clarify the apparent distinction with Durgapur subdivision as separate topic. GermanJoe (talk) 10:36, 10 March 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks a lot Soham Chongder (talk) 02:39, 11 March 2019 (UTC)
Added Sidhu Kanu Indoor Stadium page
editSidhu Kanu Indoor Stadium is one of the best stadiums in Eastern India. It is the price of Durgapur and we must acknowledge it and exhibit it's grandeur to the world through verifiable and correct info.I don't know much about the place but I made the initial very rough a page . I want you all to look into the page and enrich it with true facts. Soham Chongder (talk) 16:38, 14 March 2019 (UTC)
- It is marked for deletion. If someone has referenced information may please help. - Chandan Guha (talk) 13:50, 17 March 2019 (UTC)
Image overload, formatting issues
editThis article is overloaded with too many images that are just 'decorative'. See MOS:IMAGERELEVANCE. Also, that interactive map is far too large for its placement. I may return later to figure out how to shrink it, or place it elsewhere, but other editors who have been editing this article should be able to make adjustments.
