tachyons

edit

There reads: Sudarshan was also the first to propose the existence of tachyons, particles that travel faster than light.
However, the tachyon article says: The first hypothesis regarding faster-than-light particles is sometimes attributed to German physicist Arnold Sommerfeld in 1904.
That would be 27 years before Sudarshan was born. Why is that so? 212.50.203.198 (talk) 18:25, 14 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

The date for Prof Sudarshan's death is not correct. He passed away yesterday afternoon May 13 2018 in the North Austin Medical Center here in Austin, Texas. The family is still waiting for the official results from the Medical Examiner and cause and time of death has not been officially released yet. The correction that needs to be made is:

Hello Wikipedia Editors.
I have made a change to the External Link for the Seven Science Quests Symposium to get it updated to point to the current location on the Physics Dept Web server system at the University of Texas at Austin.

The previous External link here:

is pointing to an incomplete snapshot archive copy at web.archive.org of the original web site for this Symposium.

The new External link here:

is pointing to the current location on the UT Austin Physics Dept web server of the complete original web site.
The web site for this Symposium in 2006 was moved to a new location on the Physics Dept web server system without putting in a redirect or forwarding link at the original web site location, and apparently previous Wikipedia editors where not able to find the new location for this Symposium web site and redirected this link to the archive of this web site on web.archive.org.

There is some very important historical information and reference links to publications from Prof. Sudarshan on this Symposium web site which are in the process of being updated on the current location on the UT Austin Physics Dept web server system. This is so that all links on the Symposium web site area to the old publications web site area under:
http://wildcard.ph.utexas.edu/~sudarshan
can be updated to point to the current web site area for publications located here:
https://www.ph.utexas.edu/~gsudama
The web server on wildcard.ph.utexas.edu has been shutdown for over 2 years now, and all the reference links on the snapshot archive copy at web.archive.org are still pointing at the wildcard web server.

This problem with the old wildcard.ph.utexas.edu web server system getting shutdown also broke the old External links for the "Home page" and "Collected Works" links which were originally set with these web links:

These were then later set as Dead links when it was discovered that the wildcard web site was no longer responding.

The full content of the "Home page" and "Collected Works" web site areas was in fact moved to the UT Austin Physics Dept web server system, but this relocation was not detected by past Wikipedia editors and came across as looking like Dead links. So I also made the changes on these External links on May 10, 2018 to get these links updated to the current locations here:

These new External links are pointing now to the current location for Prof. Sudarshan's "Home page" and "Collected Works" web site areas.

Early life and conversion

edit

George converted to Hinduism after marrying fellow Hindu student. This is mentioned also in sources in his native language here. "Embracing" is a stronger word and hides the true circumstances surrounding the conversion. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:A61:3BC2:8D01:DB1:3A8A:898B:6201 (talk) 08:31, 4 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
