Vedder vs. Cobain
The article currently says: "Eddie Vedder has also openly admitted to being an all-around worse guitar player/vocalist/lyricist than Kurt Cobain (often looked upon as being the beginning and end of "grunge") on several occasions." Does anyone actually have a citation for this? I've read most of Vedder's interviews and don't recall him ever saying any such thing. Even if he has, I'm not convinced this particular phrasing is NPOV. I'd like to see an exact quote, and if no one can find one then I'm going to remove the sentence. CKarnstein 05:40, 22 January 2006 (UTC)
- After looking through the editing history, it appears that the questionable sentence was simple vandalism originally added by someone who couldn't even spell Vedder's name. I have removed it. CKarnstein 05:46, 22 January 2006 (UTC)
Imitators
A citation of some sort is needed for the area towards the end that states that the frontment of Creed, Nickelback and Puddle of Mudd have actually admitted to mimicking Vedder's voice, otherwise that is just opinion. 205.238.205.220 21:12, 10 May 2006 (UTC)

Personal life
I've added a short "Personal life" section to include information about Vedder's marriages and family. This info was previously down in the "Trivia" section, and it seemed disrespectful to reduce a man's wife and child to trivia status. CKarnstein 06:18, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

Not Grunge
I have listened to albums by almost all of the bands considered to be grunge, and Pearl Jam just doesnt fit in with the other bands. They're not loud or distorted enough and they sound more rock/adult contemporary. I dont really understand why they're classified as grunge. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.25.130.180 (talk • contribs) 02:24, 21 May 2006 (UTC)
- This topic comes up a lot. See Grunge music for the answer to your question. —Viriditas | Talk 02:30, 21 May 2006 (UTC)
- Grunge isn't even a sound, it was a scene.
- Pearl Jam may not have been as heavy or distorted as Nirvana or Soundgarden or the likes, but they were definantly grunge. The albums you may have listened to were ones like Vs? Albums like Ten, Vitalogy, or Pearl Jam (self titled) ensure that they WERE grunge, and their on-stage appearence as well (Vedder usually smashes the mic stand, and some guitars and drum kits have been demolished as well). They helped revolutionise grunge music. Don't question it. Ka5hmir 04:53, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

Should it be mentioned that he sang this at 2 cubs games? - also anyone know the dates?
- It's not really notable; by that I mean, it's not really worth a mention that he sang a baseball song at a random baseball match. Frvernchanezzz (talk) 09:27, 5 December 2007 (UTC)

Discography
There's no reason to list Pearl Jam releases here. Just use a "Further information" template to direct readers to Pearl Jam discography. All that needs to be listed are Vedder's solo releases. WesleyDodds (talk) 11:18, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
Edit dispute with User:-5-
- It is ambiguous whether Eddie Vedder and Jill McCormick are married. Describing them as being "in a relationship" is a satisfiable description in either scenario, and avoids the possibility that the article reflects inaccurate or outdated information by stating that they are "dating."
- By using the phrase "dissatisfaction with touring" in the reasoning for Jack Irons' departure, there is the implication that there was contention amongst the band, when, in fact, the departure was amicable. As an aside, the Rolling Stone article cited doesn't help the matter by trying to put the negative tabloid-esque spin on it; in the future, we should try to find a better source for this reason, in addition to the fact that even then, the Rolling Stone article is pretty sparse in the actual details for Irons' decision to leave.
- The statement that the line is, "I want to fuck you up," is not true.
Having said that, this explanation isn't even necessary, because, as explained at the discussion for rearviewmirror (album), the opinion that an edit does not actively improve the article is not an affirmative justification for reverting, if the effects of those edits can be categorized as neutral at worst. It's because of your behavior that the article on that album continues to contain known errors and untagged, unverified claims. 129.15.131.246 (talk) 06:15, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
- Please don't add something and lazily cover it up with a {{Fact}} tag.
- Irons was dissatisfied with touring. The Rolling Stone article is a notable source since its published in a credible publication. It's written this way on the Pearl Jam article as well.
- The only thing I can now agree on is the Rodman thing. After double-checking the lyrics, you're right on that one.
With this and the greatest hits article, it doesn't seem like were on the same page.-5- (talk) 06:33, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
- You seem to be having difficulty in understanding what is actually being changed in the edits in both articles. On both articles, you have asserted that I've knowingly added unverified claims, although it can be plainly seen in the history that this is not the case, which I've repeatedly pointed out in the talk page on that article as well. I will repeat again, none of my edits have introduced original content to the mentioned articles; I have only copyeditted content already present in the article.
- How does your response about Irons' actually address my comment?
You're inferring something in the Irons comment that isn't there. Does it say he was fired? No, it doesn't. He was dissatisfied, and he left on his own terms. So, I don't believe this needs to be changed. If you're going to make an issue of it on this page you should make an issue of it on the Pearl Jam article also. The whole marriage thing is DEFINATELY an unverified claim, since you're just adding it and then depending on someone else to add a source. If you're not sure that its factual, why add it in the first place? There's no source I've ever seen that mentions he is married, so that shouldn't even be up for discussion.-5- (talk) 08:18, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
- Your response that I have claimed the line about Irons implies that he was fired is a straw man. I have not said anything other than that the particular phrase has a negative implication. If the same phrase appears in the Pearl Jam article as well, it should similarly be changed. Again, I mention the effects of neutral at worst edits.
- The dispute is not about changing the occurrence of "dating model Jill McCormick" to "in a relationship with model Jill McCormick," for the reasons I've already stated. This is, as with the discussion about rearviewmirror, another display of your misconstruing what is actually happening in the dispute.

The mumble?
Hi, I'm looking for some information about Eddie Vedder's Famous "mumble." I haven't been able to find anything, specifically about how it is satirized. For instance, I think there was a Mad Tv sketch about how "no one knows what I'm saying" or something like that?
Anyone have any idea? In the article about Yellow Ledbetter, it is clear that the lyrics are...well unintelligible.

This page (citation no. 8) details an incident (the inspiration for the song "Lukin") where a woman apparently believed all of Pearl jam's songs were about her and crashed a car into his house, causing him to seclude himself at a new house, the location of which he won't reveal. Why isn't this in the article? I don't know if the citation is too hearsay and "blurry" for us to include, so I won't suggest we add it yet unless someone finds out more. 24.3.15.249 (talk) 19:36, 10 July 2008 (UTC)

Dead?
Haha it says "Eddie Vedder (born Edward Louis Seversen III on December 23, 1964 - December 29, 2006)". What the hell? I researched this, and proved that he isn't dead, so i removed it. It also said "Eddie vedder died of unknown circumstances on 29 december. he will be sorely missed", so i got rid of that too. Ka5hmir 04:48, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

Lol.. maybe someone plans on murdering him?

Religion
The statement that Eddie Vedder is an Athiest followed by the quote from the 1998 article doesn't really prove that he is in fact an Athiest. Does anyone have any information regarding him actually saying "I am an Athiest". The quote from the article sounds more like he doesn't belive in the Genesis story of Creation and not that he denies the exsistence of God and Jesus Christ. Lawnboy1977 (talk) 16:41, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
I added another link with several quotes from Vedder on his beliefs, one in which he actually states he doesn't believe in God. Lawnboy1977 (talk) 16:45, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
I don't know, I really don't think this part of the article is really relevant on a page about Vedder. Furthermore, he never really stated his personal faith one way or another. Though there is evidence in interviews regarding his displeasure of organized religion, there is just as much evidence to show of him speaking of some type of belief; on the Live at the Garden DVD, he speaks about a "faith in something bigger" also recently he referenced a life after death at a show in New Jersey. As it stands it's pretty ambiguous and for an issue that's gray, even a little, it doesn't really belong in a wiki article, especially considering this article presents it as fact. Just a thought. I really think the entire section should just be removed.
I think in general Projam music does have spirlt side, but I would not think he is a Christian. I think he is smart not to be to open, his whole music style anti-insitional. So I think religion would be issues. I have heard Kurt had more of religous side and possible try to become Catholic, but it could be rumor as such with Veder being anything. The part about his girlfriend and child was removed, why? Was it incorrect? mvdhout 20:08, 18 Dec 2004 (UTC)
EDDIE VEDDER IS MARRIED TO JILL MCCORMICK. IT IS NOT HIS GIRLFRIEND IT'S NOW HIS WIFE. IMDB reported they married in 2004 before there daugher was born. He has stated this numerous times in recent interviews, calling Jill his wife. Example in a recent interview in L.A. he was asked what are doing in LA and he said "My wife and I are visiting Johnny Ramone's Wife Linda....."
^ that last paragraph was actually published on the main article. People, if you are going to add something, at least do it right. See history for details. The revision that added the paragraph was from JMG-30.

No Longer Vegetarian?
Under "Other Work", a sentence reads, "However, as of 2011, he is no longer a vegetarian.[66]"
The link refers to an article in which Beth Murphy, co-owner of Murphy’s Bleachers, states that Vedder wanted a hot dog. Kudos to whoever found this, as I can't find anything else on the web saying anything other than that Vedder is a vegetarian. That leads to my beef with the page's assertion:
1. We have one article with one witness saying he wanted a hot dog. Murphy could have been:
a. remembering or getting the facts wrong (e.g. if Vedder was ordering it for someone else); b. fabricating the hot dog order to make for a better story.
2. It is possible that in 2011, even Chicago sells vegetarian hot dogs.
3. And this is a more semantic argument, but if Vedder had eaten one hot dog, does that make him no longer a vegetarian? I get that eating meat is pretty much the opposite of being a vegetarian, but is it possible that he had a moment of weakness, was intoxicated, say, or what have you? If eating meat makes one not a vegetarian, how long must one go without meat before being considered a vegetarian again? Or is vegetarianism like virginity? And if so, does that mean that it is impossible to become a vegetarian if one was raised eating meat?
This is probably a round-about way of asking, could the sentence be made somewhat more accurate by stating, "However, a 2011 media source reported that he ordered a hot dog at a bar after a baseball game."?

last of grunge/legacy
Why wouldn't a paragraph about being the last of the grunge era be notable? Seems to me it would fall under legacy. PUNKMINKIS (CHAT) 16:44, 19 May 2017 (UTC)

Biography
Main article needs to be repaired or deleted due to content. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Stepp-Wulf (talk • contribs) 04:31, 1 September 2004 (UTC)
- A link needs to be added to Mr. Vedder's early San Diego band, Bad Radio. They played loud and hard at SDSU and other venues. --Viriditas (talk) 12:10, 7 September 2004 (UTC)
- I wonder if we should include some text on his early years, the divorce and name change and all. It's already in the article I linked, though, and I would prefer to keep the emphasis on his music myself. mvdhout (talk) 19:33, 7 September 2004 (UTC)
- Aloha. This page is about Eddie Vedder, not his band. Yes, I agree that the music should receieve priority, but when someone visits this page they probably want to learn about the person as well. I'm glad you added the Bad Radio link, but I think you should specify that they played in southern California. Music enthusiasts are very interested in geographical details. I'm going to try to scan in some Bad Radio ticket stubs I have (They have a logo) and upload them to the page when I have time. --Viriditas (talk) 01:16, 8 September 2004 (UTC)

Nice work on the life history, mvdhout. You wrote, While doing regular jobs to get an income... I believe he was working at a gas station at that time, but I could be mistaken. I wonder if you could confirm this in one of his interviews or bios. Then again, he might not have told anybody, other than the members of Bad Radio and his girlfriend. That was close to 14 years ago, so my memory could be faulty. --Viriditas (talk) 10:42, 8 September 2004 (UTC)
- Most of the life story we have now is based on the linked article and some web searching, so I'm not sure about everything, and one thing in particular I'm not sure about: when did he learn about his stepfather (Mr. Mueller) not being his real father? And what prompted him to change his last name to Vedder? Where in the timeline is the divorce of his mother and stepfather?. Also, I believe he has a new girlfriend and child now so more information on that should be helpful. I'm not sure about the actual jobs he did, there was mention of a drug store, a hotel where he worked as a security guard, and indeed I have heard that he worked at a gas station as well. mvdhout (talk) 11:24, 8 September 2004 (UTC)
Infobox photo change
The infobox photo needs a change and to be put into another section on the page. This photo below more accurately represents what Eddie looks like now and I would appreciate if someone could crop it. I just think it’s better to have a more recent picture in the infobox. BoltznNutz (talk) 00:07, 14 October 2021 (UTC)
Probably doesn’t show his face as well, but it could be a replacement I think. BoltznNutz (talk) 00:08, 14 October 2021 (UTC)

Eddie Vedder, vocal and songwriter of alternative/grunge band Pearl Jam, is obviously talented songwriter. I personaly think that he's got an amazing voice and I admire him. :) Anyone else for a talk? :) Kristina —Preceding unsigned comment added by 195.29.97.19 (talk • contribs) 18:41, 2 June 2004 (UTC)
The Gorge, George, WA 09/01/05
There is at least one live album missing from the discography list, The Gorge, George, WA 09/01/05. The Gorge, George, WA 09/01/05 can be downloaded from the official Pearl Jam website, http://pearljam.com/. It includes nearly all of the show and fills nearly 3, 80 min. CD-R discs. I happened to be at the show, it was one of the most awesome experiences of my life. It is worth tracking down if you are a big fan of Pearl Jam.

Ed's divorce from Beth occurred 24 Sep 2004 in King County, Washington, not in 2000 as his page presently states. This is according to: Washington, U.S., Divorce Index, 1969-2017 - Ancestry.com (I know this is behind a paywall but I presume someone will have access to this) 2601:246:A80:1DB0:495C:E904:9902:E038 (talk) 23:20, 23 November 2022 (UTC)
