Best known for...

How can you say she's best known for being a character in Spider Man! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.213.7.157 (talk) 05:06, 14 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

I just edited that out. It's a RIDICULOUS claim. She barely CO-starred, let alone "starred". — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.59.33.14 (talk) 22:52, 25 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Changed WASP to protestant

edit

Changed WASP to protestant as the term WASP is offensive and their was nothing to verify that she even was of Anglo-Saxon protestant decent. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Deepintexas (talkcontribs) 02:46, 6 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Well, she used the term in a quote on her Twitter account. I think it's okay to use it as long as it is in quotation marks, rather than stated as a fact. All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 02:59, 6 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
I think putting it in quotes is a good solution. I teach in this field, and I have never seen WASP described as a pejorative term. It is informal and slangy, though. In Monica McGoldrick's standard work Ethnicity and Family Therapy they've struggled with the name too, changing it from "British American" in the early editions to "Anglo American." I think Ms. Banks' ethnicity is often central to the roles she plays as an actor. She works so well with Jewish actors like Seth Rogen and Zach Braff, playing what everybody from Lenny Bruce to Philip Roth would admiringly call "the shicksa goddess." Perhaps a thousand years ago the term was derogatory Yiddish for a gentile woman, but the contemporary American use is admiring, the irresistible Delilah to the ethnic Samson, as well as the symbol of having made it in America. None of this belongs in an article, but Talk can help us decide what goes into an article. Profhum (talk) 08:17, 30 July 2014 (UTC)Reply
Didn't even know WASP was a field of study... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.50.92.159 (talk) 16:26, 27 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

The contemporary usage of the term "shiksa" (you misspelled it) is not one of admiration. It's an ethnic slur presently. The term was even used for the basis of a hate crime report in Canada. The term has nothing to do with "admiration." There is also absolutely no evidence of her alleged Anglo-Saxon descent. She merely declared it which anyone can do. I rolled back 3 edits on July 1, 2013 because the photos added in these edits failed flickr review and were copyright violations. So, I reverted back to an image which had no copyright violations. --Leoboudv (talk) 01:20, 1 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
