Trivia Section

Whats the Bullshhh about eminem:

  • Eminem owns a house in Rapid City, Mi on Torch Lake. Which is the third most beautiful lake in the world.(other people might judge the lake to be ugly you know!!)
  • In the novel Be More Chill, Eminem is said to have died in a street-hockey accident.(??) —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Elif4ziggan (talkcontribs) 08:48, 7 April 2007 (UTC).

About.com

I've noticed that someone has been cruising through many rappers wikipedia pages and adding their position on About.com's 50 greatest rappers list. This shouldn't be listed because it is not a major website or anything like that. If you're going to put his position on that list, then you should put his position on MTV's 10 greatest MC's, MTV 2's 22 Greatest MC's, VH1's 50 greatest Rappers, and Rolling Stone's list of Immortals. I can understand that because those are all huge publications but About.com is not ligit or important enough. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 68.219.110.74 (talk) 20:46, 12 April 2007 (UTC).

Associated acts

An editor has suggested on my talk page that Xzibit and Nate Dogg should be added to the infobox "associated acts" field. The acts have collaborated and appeared together in videos. Is this sufficient to warrant inclusion in the infobox? --Muchness 02:08, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

I think that neither Xzibit nor Nate Dogg should be included in associated acts, because they didn't work with Eminem as much as 50 Cent, for example. Also, Jay-Z should be removed from the associated acts, because they worked together on one song only. I might be wrong, though. Daniil Maslyuk 15:43, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

New Single

Eminem is going to release a new single called "Cracka-Jack"

Got any proof? SlimShady6135 03:33, 2 June 2007 (UTC)

Yes

First off, do not be an imbecile and sign your comments. Secondly, only a RUMORED title for Eminem's next album has been released. "Cracka-Jack" is not a single by Eminem, nor is it a song by Eminem. Please take your childish behavior elsewhere.
On a final note, Kon Artis posted on a D12 forum that D12 SHOULD have a single in a month (July) or two (August). If that is the case then D12's album will release before Eminem's. Do not look for an Eminem album in '07, especially when Ca$his, Stat Quo, and 50 Cent are planning on releasing their respected projects within the next six-and-a-half months.

why did the eminem article became shorter?

i have read that article like 2 times and today when i was reading againg...i saw that it was shorter...and the article a month ago was all correct and long....so could some one fix it?

Too many citation requests

As of today, July 24, 2007, this article seems to be in the midst of an editing war over citation requests. My opinion is that the requests are overbroad at this point. Do we need a citation for the statement that Marshall Mathers is commonly known as Eminem? I think not. Also, each clause of a sentence does not need citation. For example, where the article says: "The song features a very strong anti-Bush message" it follows this with: "with lyrics such as 'fuck Bush'". Clearly then, the "citation needed" tag at the end of the first clause is unecessary. I have no vested interest in this page, having visited it for the first time yesterday, and I am of the opinion that the edits by User:Realist2 are vandalism. Kgwo1972 18:32, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

I fully agree about a lot of citations not being necessary, such as the Eminem example you mentioned. I fixed it but I suspect someone will unfix it. Dachande 19:46, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

Actually i no wikipedia policy on citation tags, it is not vandalism or spam no matter how many tags are requested. If something is not sourced a tag can be asked for. furthermore did you realise under wikipedia policy that if something is not sourced it can be deleted no questions asked by any wikipedia member!! If I hated eminem I would have deleted almost the entire page because so little is sourced. In fact The tags are there to stop others deleteing the page. Take for example the intro, it has 3 citations, which means if I wanted I could delete the entire intro bar that intro!! also the part on eminems disagreements with other celebs, at least 20 people are mentioned with no citations. did you no it is a civil libious offence to say a living person has had an argument with another person without giving any proof!!! In fact no matter how common sense a claim it must still be sourced. Take eminems alter egos, i asked for a citation for this because the same has occured with michael jackson being called mj or king of pop, and the same for madonna and the like. If tags are removed you will be slapped with a vandalism disclaimer on your user page. Realist2 12:16, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

I have removed about 7 or 8 of my tags as a little unneccsary, but the rest needes sourcing. Realist2 13:13, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

However Realist2, it can only be deleted if it is 1) doubtful, 2) harmful, 3) contentious. Deleting non-doubtful, non-harmful, non-contentious content IS vandalism. Since the Header at the top of the page is Eminem I am pretty sure that we have established that Marshall Mathers is Eminem. Additionally, you're being a bad wikipedian. According to the policy on biographies of living persons, you shouldn't be tagging stuff you feel is unsourced and unreliable, you should be deleting it. The rest of us are apparently willing to take for granted that M. Mathers is Eminem, but if you find it so doubtful and contentious (funny how I keep using the exact adjectives from the WikiGuidelines pages) you should be removing it. Or you know, actually finding sources to put into the tags. Cuz then there'd just be the little 1 character footnotes instead of the obnoxious 15 character tags. Plus, anything you put a Citation Needed on, makes the obvious seem less correct. But anything left untagged (until say, an upstanding member of the wikicommunity such as yourself inserts the entire citation) seems more like a given. Now, I can appreciate your example you gave about Michael Jackson and needing a source for "the King of Pop" because someone else gave him that name and he doesn't perform, record, or distribute albums under that name, but for stage names, get off it. Dachande 16:20, 25 July 2007 (UTC)
I just glanced at more of the article...Now, a lot of the body may need all those citations...fine whatever, but when someone actually gets around to adding citations, please do so in a manner that minimizes the actually number of tags. Avoid tagging clauses if the entire sentence can be tagged to sources. Right now it looks really bad to have all those "citation needed" tags floating around. I think a better scheme is tag a sentence that needs sources anywhere in it, and then we know the whole sentence should be justified. Dachande 17:17, 25 July 2007 (UTC)
The issue of citation needed for M. Mathers = Eminem (specifically) has been resolved. Concensus reached. Thank you all, I am so glad we could agree on that one. I apologize for any loss of temper I may have personally let slip. Good faith, civility, honor, etc. Have a good day. Dachande 17:17, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

Yes I removed the tag on eminem I was only ment to do slim shady, that part was an honest mistake. I wouldnt consider deleteing anything unsourced as the article would then be VERY short an I would be accused of vandalism along the way. As for the tags on the 20 celebs names, if someone can find a single source that says eminem has fallen out with the following 20 people then it can be used and all those tags can be removed in 1 sweep. I just find it unlikely that you will find a source that has al there names. I imagine you will need a source for every individual person. Realist2 17:35, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

I have reviewed the situation and for now have placed just 5 tags. Four of which are in the intro being a)slim Shady b)70 million worldwide c) highly acclaimed d)Grammy for album of the Year. The other tag is for the disputes with other celebs and should be taken to mean all of them not just Christopher Reeve. These tags are completely acceptable and should not be deleted, I would say the main concern is the dispute with the 20 celebs as this is potentially libilous. If it is not sourced soon it will have to be deleted. Over the comming months I will gradually introduce more tags , until it is neatened out. This is not a climb down though. This article is very poorly sourced. It is 40,000 bytes long with only 35 sources!! Michael Jacksons is 100,000 bytes with 150 sources. This is much more respectable. This issue must be sorted. Realist2 22:28, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

If you're so concerned about the article, why don't you find official sources instead of gradually introducing more tags? Better hurry up before wikipedia gets sued for calling Marshall Mathers Slim Shady, because that's potentially LIBELOUS!!!--YellowTapedR 23:05, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

As you are aware you were not successful in getting me banned , and i never said the slim shady part was libilous anyway!! it still needs sourcing though. calm down and find a source for it. Realist2 23:12, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

I don't care enough, I just happened upon the article and thought it looked ridiculous. I only tried to get you banned because you were rude and erroneously threatened people with being blocked for vandalism.

And if you want to be taken seriously, you really should use spellcheck. It is "know," not "no," when you say, "Actually i no wikipedia policy on citation tags, it is not vandalism or spam no matter how many tags are requested." And it's "libelous," not "libilous."--YellowTapedR 23:33, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

Acting

His debut was not 8 Mile. It was in Dr. Dre/Snoop Dogg's movie Da Hip Hop Witch.

Look at what you're saying: "debut" means that he first appeared, and, "cameo" means that he just had a small part but is known to the people/fans - this is usually done to promote the film - and "starred" means that he has lead role. BUT starred and debut will usually go TOGETHER especially if it is eagerly anticipated. He thought up Slim Shady while taking a dump (not sure "how"). He thought up Eminem from his initials (M&M). SlimShady6135 20:35, 30 October 2007 (UTC)

He originally collaborated with Proof, trying to get the best 12 rappers in Detroit to form the Dirty Dozen (later, "D-12"). They couldn't find 12, but they got 6 and tried to get the "alternate personality" in order to fill out the 12. Proof said that he was going to be Dirty Harry, and then Eminem said that he was going to use the moniker "Billy the Kid." It was only later that, whilst taking a dump, it "just came to him" - - his nickname would be "Slim Shady." I want to initially say no, because in both mentioned songs Eminem did 0% of the rock parts. "Marshall Mathers" did not feature any rock tracks though, however Crazy in Love did. Both songs also share in common though that the band did not actively record the song with him, and he used pre-recorded samples to mix and match. I vote no for putting him in this catagory, at least for now. TheJudge310 (talk) 00:20, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

Controversy section

Per Wikipedia:Criticism, I believe that some of the info in the "Controversy" section that's in the article in this moment be integrated throughout the "Biography" section, as controversies of Eminem tend to go chronologically. For example, the controversies over homophobic/misogynistic/anti-Bush/anti-Michael Jackson lyrics could go within the "1999-2004" section, and the 100 People Who Are Screwing Up America could go in the "2005-present" section. However, I'm at fences over the "criticism from other artists" section: because the first paragraph isn't sourced, and the second one mentioning Chuck D of Public Enemy and Weird Al tend to go within 2002-2003, so I'm not sure of whether this article would be good with a short section devoted only to "criticism from other artists", or this stuff being integrated within Eminem's main biography.

I'd like to reach a consensus among editors before further action is taken. Thank you. --Andrewlp1991 (talk) 00:04, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

That sounds like a reasonable idea to me. The controversies can be attributed to specific dates, so no reason to filter them off to a separate section. -Verdatum (talk) 15:51, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
Thank you very much. I will begin re-organizing the article as soon as I can. Other editors may help too. --Andrewlp1991 (talk) 23:46, 1 February 2008 (UTC)

Reformed?

Now, again the controversy section has been reformed, although i've tried integrating the controversies throughout the article. Per Wikipedia:Criticism, which cites article structure under NPOV policy as discouraging pushing "controversial" aspects into one section. In my humble opinion, I think a "controversy" section pushes way too much attention toward Em's controversies, which should really be viewed within his main chronological bio. Wikipedia biographies of living persons should take the reader's main attention toward the person's life, not just controversies. --Andrewlp1991 (talk) 06:47, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

I don't know how much my comment helps, but I continue to agree. Unfortunately, especially with a topic such as this, that will receive frequent edits from novice editors, it's just something that must be monitored and fixed as nonconstructive edits are made. Hopefully though, anyone disagreeing will present their argument here before editing as recommended by guideline. -Verdatum (talk) 15:43, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

Eminems Mother & Family

Is there a section that descrines marshalls mother? or a separate article? I can't find either. Also he seems to hate his mother as I recall he says in one of his songs:

C'mon Debs cum on your tits, fuck that cum on your tits cum on your lips...

— Eminem - Album: The Eminem Show Song: Without me

Sorry for being so graphic but I believe Debs refers to his mother? I mean he insults her which might suggest family conflict? I'm not so sure...But should we have a section dedicated to his mother or his ex-wife for that matter? LOTRrules (talk) 21:52, 4 February 2008 (UTC)

You must be extremely careful when making conclusions from such references. You can't use his lyrics to determine if he's being serious, or if his opinion continues to hold; he's allowed to change his mind after all. All these cautionary issues are covered in Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons. Oh also, Wikipedia is not censored. So long as it's appropriate, and quoting lyrics certainly is, you don't need to use asterisks or apologize or anything. -Verdatum (talk) 15:51, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

yes, i think the personal life section needs cleaning up. where it says he hates his mother debbie is only speculation, as in some of his lyrics he mentions that he's sorry, and that he does love her. iy's hard to tell weathjer he's joking or being serious in most of his lyrics. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 168.224.1.14 (talk) 14:23, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

Mysogynism

Under the "threats" to the President section, we made it clear that " "White America" also brought the U.S. Secret Service attention at first, but gave up after seeing a statement from Eminem after the song: "*laughs* I'm just playing America, you know I love you". " but in the Mysogynist second, we fail to cite the line from Kill You (Which is one of the songs cited for his alleged hate towards women), which states "[Eminem]Hahaha, I'm just playing ladies|You know I love you" . I think it'd be important to add this as neutralizer towards that particular part of the article, as it would balance out what that part explicitly states. The idea is NPoV, regardless of the image that his music may have made. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.12.11.239 (talk) 15:35, August 30, 2007 (UTC)

The Anonymous

hey in 1998 Eminem was on a record with The Anonymous called Green And Gold EP... i have the vinyl, but I'm tryna find info on it and on the group "the Anonymous" and i thought i should put it here because Eminem Associated with them.-+

Censorship of 'My Name Is...'

I am worried; why are there only about 5 websites on the whole internet that have the real lyrics to the song? Why cant i find the original version? Why does nobody seem to be aware of the fact that they are listening to the censored version?

None of these are lyrics in the song 'My Name Is...'; "My English teacher wanted to flunk me in junior high. Thanks a lot - next semester I'll be thirty-five." "Extraterestrial, running over pedestrians in a spaceship while they're screaming at me 'Lets just be friends!'" They are lyrics to the censored version, which seems to have taken over the internet. Originally it was "My english teacher wanted to fuck me in junior high. The only problem was, my english teacher was a guy." And "Extraterestrial, killing pedestrians, raping lesbians while they're screaming at me 'Lets just be friends!'"

There may be more, but i cannot recall them. There are sources on the internet, if you look hard enough, but i feel worried about trusting even them, since The Powers that Be seem so determined to dissolve the truth with their excellently fitted but false lyrics.

I'm sure this deserves at least a passing mention - we all now know that it was "Seven kids from Columbine" and nothing else, so why are the masses so ignorant to this?

Thanks, BrockFettes (talk) 15:01, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

Well, the lyrics "My English teacher wanted to flunk me in junior high. Thanks a lot - next semester I'll be thirty-five." are what appeared on the "retail non censored version" of the The Slim Shady LP in the UK. (I bought it at the time, and just checked) There was also a censored version available, but I don't think anyone really buys them here. (I understand in the USA, places like walmart often only stock the totally censored version, ie the radio friendly ones). I think the "uncensored" lyrics you are referring to may have appeared on The Slim Shady EP, which preceded the LP. I actually remember at the time Eminem talking about the fact the record company made him change some things, even on the uncensored version, this was probably in his interview with Tim Westwood before the album came out, that's the only interview I remember from that time. GA review

GA review – see WP:WIAGA for criteria

This article is in decent shape, but it needs more work before it becomes a Good Article.

  1. Is it well written?
    A. The prose is clear and concise, and the spelling and grammar are correct:
In the "1972–1994: Early career", it would be a good idea to mention his real name, ex. 50 Cent and The Game. 12 and 14 should be written as twelve and fourteen. In the 2000–2001: The Marshall Mathers LP section, "Eminem was arrested when, on June 3, 2000, during an altercation at a car audio store in Royal Oak, Michigan", is "when" really necessary to include?
    B. It complies with the manual of style guidelines for lead sections, layout, words to watch, fiction, and list incorporation:
In the D12 section, "D12" only needs to be linked once, per here.
  2. Is it verifiable with no original research, as shown by a source spot-check?
    A. It contains a list of all references (sources of information), presented in accordance with the layout style guideline:
    B. Reliable sources are cited inline. All content that could reasonably be challenged, except for plot summaries and that which summarizes cited content elsewhere in the article, must be cited no later than the end of the paragraph (or line if the content is not in prose):
Reference 6 needs to be fixed. Does Reference 24 cover the first paragraph of section 2002–2003: The Eminem Show? In the 2008–present: Fifth studio album section, Dr. Dre telling the LA Times that he's going to work with Eminem needs a source. The third paragraph on Featurings and productions, needs a source.
    C. It contains no original research:
    D. It contains no copyright violations nor plagiarism:
  3. Is it broad in its coverage?
    A. It addresses the main aspects of the topic:
    B. It stays focused on the topic without going into unnecessary detail (see summary style):
  4. Is it neutral?
It represents viewpoints fairly and without editorial bias, giving due weight to each:
This sentence needs a little re-write ---> "Having sold over seventy million albums worldwide, Eminem is one of the highest-selling musicians of the early 2000s, and one of the highest-selling rap artists of all time", just a little. 1999–2000: The Slim Shady LP, "Eminem broke up with his girlfriend during the period, and this and other personal turmoils cumulated to an unsuccessful suicide attempt", needs a re-write.
  5. Is it stable?
It does not change significantly from day to day because of an ongoing edit war or content dispute:
  6. Is it illustrated, if possible, by images?
    A. Images are tagged with their copyright status, and valid non-free use rationales are provided for non-free content:
    B. Images are relevant to the topic, and have suitable captions:
  7. Overall:
    Pass or Fail:
If the statements above can be answered, I will pass the article. Good luck with improving this article! Also, contact me if the above statements are answered.

Occultism

Recently It's been heavily speculated that Eminem's philosophical view on life is closely aligned to the Nation of Gods and Earths. This can be suppourted by earlier references in his music depicting devil worship. This can be attributed to the fact that white members of the 5% nation are classified as "righteous devils". This theory can also be suppourted by his musical influences, whom by a majority are 5%ers (Rakim, Big Daddy Kane, Wu-Tang Clan, X-Clan, Nas, Jay-Z, Mobb Deep...), his collaborations with Rawkus Records, and the political/social views and subject matter in his music. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.125.78.12 (talk) 16:35, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

You'll note in the talkpage archives for this article that this issue has been brought up numerous times before. The problem is, no one seems to be able to find a better photo that meets with Wikipedia's Image use policy. If you have one, or can find one, by all means, submit it. Otherwise, it doesn't really help much to ask for a better image here. It is always the case that if someone has a better image for an article that they are urged to edit the article to include it. -Verdatum (talk) 17:12, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

Discrepancy

In the "Early life and first releases" section, it claims that Royce and Eminem "referred to themselves as Bad Meets Evil, with Royce playing 'The Bad' and Eminem playing 'The Evil', as Eminem and Royce each clearly state in the song Bad Meets Evil." Oddly enough, when I listen to the song, I hear Eminem clearly state the following:

Cause this is what happens when bad meets evil, and we hit the trees 'til we look like Vietnamese people. He's evil and I'm bad like Steve Seagle, above the law 'cause I don't agree with police either.

I can't see that I have the ability to edit the main page, so perhaps someone with the capability can make the change.

Personal life section need expanded?

Like, how his dad tried to contact him at one time after he became famous and how his aunt and uncle tried to sue him because he promised to buy them a house and he didn't.

That's all wonderful stuff. Unfortunately, because Marshall Mathers is a living person, this article is subject to the strict policies of WP:BLP. We can't just add information even if we are certain it's true. You must find a reputable source and cite it along with the information. If you can do that, then I'm sure concensus would be that it's welcome in the article. -Verdatum (talk) 14:38, 21 August 2008 (UTC)

K, just a quick question adding to this, will his autobiography he's writing be mentioned or are autobiographies something you don't mention? SlimShady6135 (talk) 06:18, 30 August 2008 (UTC)

Yes, autobiographies are acceptable to be used as a source for information provided the facts cited meet a few basic criteria. Details may be found at WP:SELFPUB. -Verdatum (talk) 14:08, 4 September 2008 (UTC)
(followup) Unless you are asking about mentioning the fact that he's writing an autobiography, in which case, that would be fine to add so long as you include a Verifiable Reliable Source that states he's writing an autobiography. -Verdatum (talk) 14:20, 4 September 2008 (UTC)

Suicide linked to Rock Bottom's lyrics

David Hurcombe killed himself in 2001, and it is believed that Rock Bottom's lyrics which were discovered in his bedroom were linked to his suicide. How come nobody mentioned this.

Probably no specific reason beyond the fact that Wikipedia was brand new in 2001. Unless specific action was taken against Eminem, it could be argued that this fact is related to the song, and not the artist. But, speaking for myself, so long as the fact was properly cited with a Reliable Source, such as a reputable major news publication, I'd have no problem with it being in this article. -Verdatum (talk) 14:33, 4 September 2008 (UTC)

New book by Eminem

Eminem wrote a new book and its going to come out this year: http://search.barnesandnoble.com/The-Way-I-Am/Eminem/e/9780525950325/?itm=1 and on the back cover in the pics it says that hes soon going to come out with a new record this year so i guess it confirms the new album? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.190.58.95 (talk) 01:37, 4 September 2008 (UTC)

If what you say is correct (I didn't follow the link), this only confirms that there are plans to come out with a new album. Specific information about release schedules for albums change all the time. IIRC there is also a cited quote saying any new album will not come out in 2008, so the two facts would need to be placed in parallel (e.g "Source A states that Sleeping Beauty's dress will be pink, however, Source B states that the dress will be blue."). -Verdatum (talk) 14:26, 4 September 2008 (UTC)

I remember them confirming that there wouldn't be an album in 2007, but not 2008. Nobody ever said the album wasn't coming out this year. SlimShady6135 (talk) 02:50, 12 September 2008 (UTC)

Hm...I can't remember where I saw that claim; it may be all in my head or I might have been thinking of a different artist. Regardless, I can't find it now, and Eminem's sixth studio album has plenty of sources claiming 2008. So nevermind me :) -Verdatum (talk) 14:22, 12 September 2008 (UTC)

minor correction...

I think this sentence: "He also addresses the charges he faced over assaulting a bouncer he saw kissing his wife in 2000. " requires 'allegedly' (...a bouncer he allegedly saw...)

It's in the 2002–2003: The Eminem Show section (later in 'Legal Troubles' allegedly is used)

Controversy

http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Eminem&oldid=96352679#Controversies

Why were these things taken out from much older versions? The entire old article contains a LOT of information missing in this article today.

This general question has been asked a few times in the past. Some of it justifiably would have been removed because it does not meet WP:BLP. Any controversies or other information that is documented in reliable and verifiable sources is welcome so long as the source is provided. The reason why this hasn't been done is probably just because no one has bothered. -Verdatum (talk) 16:09, 17 September 2008 (UTC)

I'm afraid that evidence alone would generally not be considered a reliable source. Especially since the song doesn't say "I was born in 1973" or even anything along those lines. Plus, '72 doesn't rhyme with "multi-platinum sellin' CD." In the context of the song, '73 refers to the date when his father left. -Verdatum (talk) 15:22, 20 October 2008 (UTC)

Also in the song "cleaning out my closet"; It says "maybe i was a couple of months". eminem was born in october 1972, so by 1973 january, he is a couple of months old.

While it is true that it is much more likely that Eminem has been guilty of "anti-homosexuality" than of homophobia, the reference supplied uses the term "homophobe". The fact in question is not related to what Eminem is or is not, it is related to what he has (or has not) been accused of. -Verdatum (talk) 21:57, 28 October 2008 (UTC)

Other Beefs

There's no mention of Em's beef with Benzino (although a reference to the request to pull the Michael Jackson song is in the article) including the four-song diss EP Eminem released as well as the full album Benzino released dissing Em. Also, no mention of his beef with DMX and Ja-Rule.

I suggest either an entire new article devoted strictly to his beefs (which he has more of than most rappers, imo) or at least a stub.

205.219.133.1 (talk) 14:40, 1 January 2009 (UTC)

He never had beef with DMX. 74.5.62.46 (talk) 04:46, 5 January 2009 (UTC)
I do believe it would be possible to write content, if not an entire subarticle on his beefs with other artists. I seem to recall some revisions of this article containing some of them. Unfortunately, such content must be presented extremely carefully, due to the strict nature of WP:BLP. For example, supporting claims through artists' song-lyrics alone would not be considered a sufficiently reliable source. I expect it is for this reason that the content is conspicuously outstanding. If someone wants to take a shot at putting together the content with inline citations to reliable sources, I'd be happy to do any formatting/copyediting needed to render it appropriate for Wikipedia. -Verdatum (talk) 22:26, 15 January 2009 (UTC)

Per Talk page guidelines talkpages are for discussing the article, not the topic. Even if anyone did have an answer, I fail to see how it would result in any changes to this article. -Verdatum (talk) 21:11, 2 April 2009 (UTC)
Cry about the "rules" some more. Also, he's probably wearing glasses because he actually requires glasses to see. Sometimes he goes without/wears contacts and sometimes he prefers to actually wear them. I assume while shooting the videos he just chose to wear them.

Crack a Bottle

Shouldn't this be mentioned in the article? It went to #1 in the US. — R2 00:36, 9 April 2009 (UTC)

The general convention on major artists like this is to only list full albums in the biography, and to use Template:Main to link to a discography page to report on smaller releases, like singles. I believe that song is mentioned on Eminem discography, so all should be well as is. -Verdatum (talk) 21:40, 10 April 2009 (UTC)

I've cropped the image to focus on Eminem himself. I'd still love to see a higher quality image, but I believe this is at least marginally better than the previous image. The image feels oddly familiar though...I don't suppose it was on a previous revision on the article? I'm probably just losing it. -Verdatum (talk) 21:36, 10 April 2009 (UTC)
I don't mean to be accusatory to the original uploader, but this looks very much like a screenshot. It almost looks like someone took the image from a video browser and used an image cropper to upload it here. This could be easily from the DVD Live from New York City 2005. Do U(knome)? yes...or no 22:58, 10 April 2009 (UTC)
I don't know enough about Eminem to comment on the validity of the image, I own one of his studio albums and a greatest hits album, so not an expert I'm afraid. I'm assuming good faith that he owns the copy right to the image, as he claims. — R2 05:02, 11 April 2009 (UTC)
I have to agree with Udonknome. The new image does indeed look like a screen shot from a video and has no metadata, so it could very well be a copyright violation. However, if the image actually is taken by uploader, it's not any better than the previous lead image. In fact, it might be even worse. Karppinen (talk) 19:45, 11 April 2009 (UTC)
What a pain. It does rather look like a widescreen screencap. Given that the guy has actually written songs about fans stopping him in the bathroom asking for autographs and such, you'd think one of these people would've snagged a decent photo and would be kind enough to release the thing under a friendly license. If anyone feels it better to revert to the previous photo, I won't fight about it. -Verdatum (talk) 15:38, 15 April 2009 (UTC)

Sure, at least your image is an improvement. It would be nice if you uploaded that image to this link so that the current image would be replaced with your version. I can't believe no one has found since 2005 a better free image than that one. Do U(knome)? yes...or no 18:54, 25 January 2009 (UTC)
Most newspapers/medias use similar pictures of him. Isn't there a possibility to get hold of a legaly availiable picture by a newspaperor something comparable? Or Interscope. They make pictures of him as well, are they really all copyrighted or not to be used by common persons? I mean this picture is DEFINIATLY ugly. --DasallmächtigeJ (talk) 22:00, 3 March 2009 (UTC)

hey on www.eminem.com there is a free picture of him, everynews article uses it, why can't we use it? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.173.146.67 (talk) 15:03, 11 March 2009 (UTC)

The image has an implied copyright unless stated otherwise. so the issue is one of WP:Non-free content, which states, "Unacceptable use...Pictures of people still alive, groups still active, and buildings still standing; provided that taking a new free picture as a replacement (which is almost always considered possible) would serve the same encyclopedic purpose as the non-free image. This includes non-free promotional images. " (My emphasis), So if you want a better image, find him, ask permission to take his picture if possible, and take a better photo. Alternatively, you can request an image through eminem's agent By either Wikipedia:Requesting_copyright_permission of an image, or requesting they release an image under a compatible license (Creative Commons, Public Domain, etc). -Verdatum (talk) 17:18, 16 March 2009 (UTC)

How about this? http://images.askmen.com/blogs/entertainment/should-eminem-retire.jpg —Preceding unsigned comment added by REK101 (talkcontribs) 12:39, 24 April 2009 (UTC)

Every photograph of Eminem has an implied copyright unless it can be proven otherwise. The intellectual property owner must explicitly release it to the public domain, or release it under a license that gives us explicit permission to use it. If you don't see such a release, we cannot use it. -Verdatum (talk) 15:37, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

Mmmm can't we just take a part from the album cover of Marshall Mathers LP Limited edition? It's far better than the current image, and being on wikipedia, it must be copyright-free.(http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/2/20/The_Marshall_Mathers_LP_Limited_Edition.JPG) Bnvdarklord (talk) 00:15, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

No, we cannot. Again, the details are outlined at WP:Non-free content. If you go to the page for the uploaded image in question, File:The Marshall Mathers LP Limited Edition.JPG You'll see a tag declaring the image to be copyrighted. Copyrighted images are allowed to be uploaded and used in Wikipedia, but they are only permissible for certain specific applications. An image of an album cover is permissible on the article about the album itself, but it cannot be used to represent the subject in the photograph. -Verdatum (talk) 15:37, 13 May 2009 (UTC)
