There are a number of issues with this article, including a lack of detail on substantive matters of the emirate of Ajman's history, geography and current standing as well as minor oddities such as 'Ajman, also spelt Ujman'... In 23 years of living and working in the region (including 21 years of living in Ajman or just across the border in Northern Sharjah) I have never once heard or seen any incidence of this strange spelling, 'Ujman'.

Masfut and Manama are part of Ajman emirate - as is the inland settlement/village of Helio. FWIW, I'd maintain an Ajman 'Emirate' and Ajman 'City' entry as the other emirates are similarly treated. I'd also bring at least a broadly similar structure to the seven emirates' listings on Wikipedia.

The image is, indeed, misleading - showing the Sharjah creek and port rather than Ajman. I'll aim to get some images together.

Unless anyone's got any objections, I'm proposing to conduct a comprehensive edit of the whole article in the coming week or so. Cheers Alexandermcnabb (talk) 15:44, 5 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Would you please share lat./long. coordinates for Helio?

Length

edit

This article seems a bit short to me. If anyone lives in the area or is familiar with it, please help expand the article. On a side note, I don't think the sentence about not smoking in public areas really fits into the opening paragraphs. It seems out of place there.--AgnosticPreachersKid (talk) 20:41, 21 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

No to merge

edit

Ajman (city) is obviously the capitol of Ajman and runs directly into Sharjah. Ajman also includes very small enclaves of al-Manāmah and Masfut. Noles1984 (talk) 16:05, 6 April 2008 (UTC) (geographer)Reply

Merge it Unless someone does a major writeup, Ajman (city) is hardly an article on its own. Merge it Two articles on the same subject does not make sense Sherenk (talk) 05:43, 26 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Impact of financial crisis

edit

The section describing the impact of the financial crisis on real estate investors in not written from a neutral point-of-view. In addition, no neutral references are provided. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.31.79.168 (talk) 14:25, 20 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

I agree and propose removing it or reducing it to a couple of lines noting there was a boom and bust. It takes up a disproportionate amount of space, is out of date and is clearly an axe being ground. Any objections? Alexandermcnabb (talk) 09:31, 25 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

Is Manama a part of Al Fujayrah?

edit

Manama does not appear to belong to Ajman. According to http://www.geonames.org/maps/google_25.330278_56.027778.html :

Al Manāmah ca. 198 m
Al Manāmah
United Arab Emirates » Al Fujayrah

GeoNameId : 292799

Hmmm, years ago i collected stamps from all over the world and i still have them somewhere stored.

And i'm quite sure i got stamps having "Manama, Dependency of Ajman" written on it.

Nopes. As a resident, I can confirm Manama is part of Ajman - can also cite Graeme Wilson's excellent 'Rashid, Portrait of a Ruler' which looks at Manama's long history as an agricultural enclave of Ajman. Alexandermcnabb (talk) 03:57, 2 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

Also, I can confirm Mike's feeling for stamps - a post office was opened in Manama on July 5th 1966, issuing stamps from 'Manama Dependency of Ajman' in some proliferation. Wilson, 'Rashid, Portrait of a Ruler' PP 170/171. It was such an interesting historical footnote, I added it to the Manama entry! Alexandermcnabb (talk) 04:12, 2 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

I established an account at Geonames.org and changed the ADM1 parameter for Manama to "Ajman", so that it now displays correctly.

Cool - thanks! Alexandermcnabb (talk) 09:39, 3 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

Misleading picture "Aerial view of the city of Ajman"

edit

Sure, the picture shows Ajman-City, BUT the lower half of the picture (the largest part!) is in fact showing Sharjah-City, while the upper part also show pieces of Umm-al-Quawain and Sharjah again (because this part of Ajman is totally surounded by Sharjah, except seaside). I suggest to change title into: "Aerial view of Sharjah(below) and Ajman (middle)" — Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.74.245.2 (talk) 01:45, 5 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

Chairman of Ajman Municipality

edit

Under Governance, the current Chairman's name is linked to a deceased person's article. Does anyone know the Chairman's correct name and link to the correct page? Avnibu (talk) 07:08, 11 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
