Rodney Hide

edit

Although I think the Rodney Hide stuff is interesting (it was interesting at the time at least), is it really appropriate for this article? --BakugekiNZ 10:18, 19 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Real English

I have de-Americanized the word "center" in the article.

Etymology notes

In the book The History of Epsom, the author talks about how the typical explanation behind the suburb name (that it is named by Colonel Robert Wynyard after the Epsom racecourse and horse racing events) can't make sense, as the first horse race was 1842 and the suburb was named in 1841. Checking archives actually refutes this: references to the "village of Epsom" and to the Epsom Races appear in newspapers within a week of each other in September 1841. Planning for both events (racing events and subdividing the village) clearly overlaps, and naming was likely at the same time (though which came first might be lost to time). --Prosperosity (talk) 02:04, 9 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
