I personally liked the part that was excised: " Island residents and tourists, including a group of scuba divers, came to the aid of crash survivors. The crash was of the deadliest hijackings in aviation history."

It was absolutely factual.

Nothing like a boring, barren encyclopedia. Good job.

Uhh, you do realize there is an individual article on this, don't you? WhisperToMe 19:06, 3 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Would it be wrong to note that back in the 1980s, passengers had to provide their own meals (due to the famine)? And that the airline still gets calls from passengers asking if they have to bring their own meals? --Penta 02:01, 31 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Lideta

I'm fairly certain that Lideta Airport (HAAL) in Addis Ababa is no longer an Ethiopian Airlines destination. I believe Lideta is now a military airfield (as indicated at this website or this one). -- Gyrofrog (talk) 19:56, 29 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Did Ethiopian Airlines ever release a conclusive victim and survivor list of Ethiopian Airlines Flight 961?

Did Ethiopian Airlines ever release a conclusive victim and survivor list of Ethiopian Airlines Flight 961? I have never seen one?

If the list has country info for each passenger that would be good. WhisperToMe (talk) 01:38, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

Recent vandalism of page

It would seem that there has been some vandalism of this page in the last day or so with someone changing Ethiopian Airlines with "LOL Airlines". If this continues would it be worth semi-protecting this page? If so then it would be good if a more experienced wikipedian could do this.

Fleet Numbers don't add up

The column totals in the Fleet section aren't the sums of the entries in those columns. If there's a reason for that discrepancy, a cognizant editor should clarify. Otherwise, fix it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.174.236.250 (talk) 21:41, 7 February 2010 (UTC)

Already fixed. Besides, the Fokker 50 was removed from the Fleet table, since it is not included as part of the ET current fleet anymore.--Jetstreamer (talk) 20:45, 1 March 2011 (UTC)

Implications that ET-409 Crash in Lebanon was caused by human/Airline error?

I noticed that in the part describing "Incidents and Accident" there is a reference that one of the three accidents in Ethiopian Airlines history was described as a result of human error. I quote "...(with two of these events caused by factors outside the control of Ethiopian Airlines)." This seems a bit misleading and a possible claim that ET 409 was caused by human error. There is no official reports about that so far. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Aleka birhanu (talkcontribs) 08:16, 25 February 2010 (UTC)

Accidents and incidents

An IP editor has twice removed the DC-3 accidents from this article, which other editors have twice reverted. The DC-3 is classed as an "airliner", and therefore a hull-loss accident is notable enough to be mentioned. Like it or not, there are 6 accidents/incidents recorded against Ethiopian Air Lines and 60 against Ethiopian Airlines since 1948. Their inclusion in this article is not to be seen as any judgement on the airline's safety record. Mjroots (talk) 07:48, 22 August 2010 (UTC)

I'm currently editing the whole Ethiopian Airlines article. Despite it's far from being finished, one of the sections I've focused into is the Incidents/accidents one (though I haven't edited the Incidents sub-section yet). I think I'm already done with the Accidents section. Can anyone give me an opinion? --Jetstreamer (talk) 20:43, 1 March 2011 (UTC)

As the title says, it's "accidents and incidents". An incident does not necessarily have to result in fatalities to be notable enough to mention, which is why I'm a little surprised to see a hijacking I added removed. Mjroots (talk) 06:15, 4 April 2011 (UTC)

EAFEA history seems like unreliable source to me

this is the source in question. I don't think this is reliable for such statements as, just for instance, "Americans' intervention in Ethiopia, historians say, was not motivated by anti colonial sentiments. Their interest was based on the premise that once the war was over in Ethiopia, the region would be a highly important strategic aircraft base for the red sea and surrounding areas." Who are these "historians"? How can they make such sweeping black and white statements?— alf laylah wa laylah (talk) 00:30, 2 January 2013 (UTC)

Reinstating a previous version

Hi everyone. Are there any issues with reinstating this version of the article? Please notice that I'm asking to reinstate a version prior to the edits made by a blocked user (KevinMichaelBradley1996 (talk · contribs)). You'll find the page history helpful.--Jetstreamer Talk 15:09, 1 February 2013 (UTC)

I've checked out the version you wish to keep and I see no current issues. I was wondering about that user, I had to fix up after him twice - I assumed he was editing in good faith and didn't make an issue of it. You have my go-ahead to revert.EagerToddler39 (talk) 21:08, 1 February 2013 (UTC)
Thanks. I will wait a couple of days for more comments, if you don't mind.--Jetstreamer Talk 22:54, 1 February 2013 (UTC)
Absolutely, go right ahead. I have gone through all her/his edits and all your attempts to revert and update with good sources. You are completely in the right. I think this is non-controversial. Besides the fact that s/he was blocked – as opposed to your well researched edits – s/he lists no reliable updated sources.— አቤል ዳዊት?(Janweh64) (talk) 00:28, 2 February 2013 (UTC)

Pilot training in 1935

I found this picture while researching historic photographs of Ethiopia. I have uploaded it for use but I do not have the resources to research its background. I believe it is relevant to this article.

"Some of Ethiopia's first pilots, with their French trainer Paul Corriger in 1935."

— አቤል ዳዊት?(Janweh64) (talk) 00:57, 2 February 2013 (UTC)

The picture has an interesting historical value. However, it seems to be dated to 1935, and Ethiopian Air Lines hadn't been founded yet. How can the image fit into the article?--Jetstreamer Talk 12:57, 2 February 2013 (UTC)
I am not sure, there are some references to the beginning of an Ethiopian Air Force before 1941. Perhaps, this was a precursor to Ethiopia Airlines. The article mentions French involvement in the inception of the airline. Perhaps this where that idea comes from. — አቤል ዳዊት?(Janweh64) (talk) 23:28, 2 February 2013 (UTC)
Perhaps, the inquiry for assistance by Haile Sellassie came before Italian invasion. Even though the Airline was not established until 1941. I doubt the date of the photograph is incorrect, as Richard Pankhurst would not make a mistake in translating the Ethiopian Calendar. I think a look at the following sources should be illuminating (do you have access to any of these?):
  • Leif Hellstrom, "Imperial Fireflies", Air Enthusiast, The Historic Aviation Journal, No. 122 (March/April 2006), p. 2
  • Mekonnen Beri, Aviation in Ethiopia (Addis Ababa: Nigid Printing Press, 2002), p. 100
  • Coles, R. L. and Jules J. Heierle. "International Civil Aviation in Ethiopia."
  • Transport & communications in Ethiopia published by the Ethiopia YaMāstāwaqiyā ministér (Ministry of Information) in 1965.
  • p.19, p.50, p.143 of Historical Dictionary of Ethiopia by Thomas P. Ofcansky, David H. Shinn
This article gives a good overview of the beginnings of Aviation in Ethiopia. This Google books search also yields some interesting results.
Other unrelated sources I discovered while researching picture:
At the very least this search has yielded very reliable sources to replace EAFEA. Also, as you can see from the license attached to the photograph, Ethiopia's copyright laws in regards to historic photographs are not very strict. — አቤል ዳዊት?(Janweh64) (talk) 00:44, 3 February 2013 (UTC)
Sorry for my late response, I'm kinda busy in real life these days. I haven't taken a look to the above references yet, but I can see you've been using at least one of them in the article. Please be patient regarding the reassessment, I will complete the promised stuff as soon as I can. Regards.--Jetstreamer Talk 10:34, 4 February 2013 (UTC)
No worries, I am actually working to find historical photographs myself to help. There is no rush. We have made a significant dent on many of the major issues me and AIRcorn raised. — አቤል ዳዊት?(Janweh64) (talk) 04:26, 5 February 2013 (UTC)

Can be used as a starting point but it is not a reliable source. MilborneOne (talk) 12:17, 31 October 2012 (UTC)
Really? Even ATDB isn't a reliable source? What else are we supposed to use for airline fleet history? —Compdude123 18:19, 7 February 2013 (UTC)
Annual fleet reviews in journals like Flight are reliable sources for example. MilborneOne (talk) 18:55, 7 February 2013 (UTC)
Actually I meant current fleet. What source can we use for that, if Airfleets, Planespotters, and now ATDB are deemed "unreliable sources"? —Compdude123 22:08, 18 February 2013 (UTC)

Ethiopian Airlines Flight 702

Airline Reporter has details of a hijacking of Flight 702. Details to date are not sufficiently confirmed to write anything encyclopedic - there's a track of the flight and monitored tower communications but no word on any details of the hijackers themselves. It's an ongoing situation. Edward Vielmetti (talk) 05:25, 17 February 2014 (UTC)

Safety reputation following the crash of flight 302

"Despite this, Ethiopian Airlines has a good safety reputation, in contrast to other African airlines." Can that still be said after multiple fatal accidents that killed 494 people (369 excluding the hijacking)? Should this sentence be removed? Tigerdude9 (talk) 17:18, 3 April 2019 (UTC)
