Identities of the two branches

The management of the Northern Line would like to see the two parts of the line (i.e. the Bank branch and the Charing Cross branch) separated into two individual lines with separate identities. This would make the signage at the interchange level significantly clearer (as well as solve many operational problems and confusion of passengers trying to find the right train at Camden Town).

I'd love to see a source for this, having seen it as a mocked-up circa 1987 tube map design (in Underground Maps After Beck). I looked through the history of this article and it's been in since it split from the main Euston entry, where my patience for searching ran out, so I can't even say who wrote it. It was added in 2004 by the same anonymous user who split this page off from the main page. It seems to fail verifiability so I've removed it from the article unless someone else can get a reference for it. — Hex (❝?!❞) 12:31, 19 May 2006 (UTC)

Although I haven't got sources to hand (but can recall seeing it in a 1990 London Underground published book for the centenary of the Northern Line), this idea comes up a lot. I forget the exact combination of central and northern branches (although the Morden branch would go with the City, which seems to be de facto the way TfL is going) but the idea is to slash the number of route combinations & crossovers and simplify the line. Making Mill Hill East mainly a shuttle only service is consistent with this.

The main problem is that Camden Town as presently laid out just can't cope with the interchange traffic. Timrollpickering 19:58, 23 June 2006 (UTC)

See londonreconnections.com for recent discussion of the split. Not much has changed since 2006 (including the need to rebuild Camden Town), but the forthcoming extension to Battersea may produce a new terminus for the Charing Cross branch.
