Real or Not Controversy

edit

I thought for sure this was completely exposed as a fake documentary.. either the jury is still out, or someone isn't updating this site.

I cannot understand why there is debate over whether this film is "fake" or a "mockumentary". Since a lot of the stuff being shown in it is illegal (graffitti being vandalism), and since it documents the preparation of an art show - which was organized - then I cannot understand how it can be fake, since it shows what it says it is going to show... they cannot have faked these crimes, since they have filmed themselves committing them, and they cannot have faked the art show, since they actually organized it! Please someone explain the thinking behind the "fake" reasoning :-) Otherwise, perhaps the "prankumentary" label is the most apt...? BigSteve (talk) 10:48, 22 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Title

edit

Is the title a reference to museum shops or to Disneyland? --Error (talk) 00:15, 22 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

It's a reference to the common practice in all British museums, art galleries etc to direct visitor traffic in such a way that they have to pass through the gift shop before they can leave, and hopefully spend some monmey as they do. It's got nothing to do with Disneyland: Banksy is making a sly dig at the (necessary) commercialism of the British heritage and art establishment. 86.142.104.222 (talk) 13:45, 26 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Plagiarism and Controversy

edit

All recent reports in the press relating to Joachim Levys' claims are based on speculation and Mr Levy's opinion. They are irrelevant to this page because the film 'Life Remote Control' is not owned by Joachim Levy. All rights regarding the film 'Life Remote Control' belong to Thierry Guetta who gave full permission for the inclusion of his footage in the film 'Exit Through The Gift Shop'.

Answer : First of all, please sign your messages in the talk pages.

For now should these two sections be merged? I can't really see the second one saying anything new that plagiarism hasn't covered. Maybe we could make controversy the header and plagiarism the subheader? 67.81.131.110 (talk) 07:51, 16 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

I'm reluctant to wade into the plagarism section without really understanding it, but it really needs editing for logic and clarity. It's hard to read as-is. ike9898 (talk) 13:41, 22 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
Well, then go ahead and fix it. ( I was just watching the referenced materials not to be removed from the article.) Let's see what you mean. please. *** in fact *** ( contact ) 15:34, 22 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Life Remote Control

edit

First off, shouldn't this supposedly completed film have it's own web page or at least section?

Several reasons come to mind: it (apparently) exists in its own right, as a bonus on the dvd of ETTGS and, also, it was purportedly screened at Cannes in 2006; although a quick check of the Cannes Film Festival archives reveals nothing, I will try to e-mail them to get some sort of acknowledgement.

As many have pointed out, there is no way that a person portrayed as such a klutzy, disorganised guy like Guetta could have put together such a professionally edited "mess", synchronized editing, cuts and sound PLUS the footage we see in the movie shows him using professional editing tools with someone who seems to know what they're doing.

Finally, and this ties in with the section about plagiarism, there is this Joachim Levy who "In 2003 (he) worked as a film director, editor and producer on "Life Remote Control", a notable fast paced art film that was screened at the 2006 Cannes Film Festival." IMDb

(Funny that the YouTube clip from the film only dates from September 2006, an afterthought maybe?)

Right, back to Joachim, who claims he's been ripped off, but you can also visit his website and look at the "clients" where, miracle of miracles, we find not only Banksy but also Mr OBEY himself, and a few LA corporate connections.

I don't want to go on forever, but so much of this stuff is self-referencing, for example, the NYTimes article talks about the film being screened in 2006, doesn't say where or when, and who the hell knows if they didn't just swallow this hook, line and sinker? This whole thing goes round in circles, see the MBW article, I have serious doubts about the veracity of this "personality" and no-one can seem to come up with hard, solid facts, which, if I understand anything about Wikipedia at all, is what it's all supposed to be about!

See my talk page for a mysterious, anonymous contribution confirming Thierry Guetta's existence, you'll see what I mean, vague affirmations (he's 44, she's 41), no DOB, place of birth or whatever, hell I'm not asking for their social security numbers either, just some verifiable facts! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Captain Screebo (talkcontribs) 19:41, 27 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
