Rapper or no?
editThe following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
I've filed RFCs over this before for other individuals, however there seems to be a dedicated crew of IPs who wish to identify all rappers as such, by removing hip-hop fromt he first sentence. Is Fab a rapper or not, and should that description coexist with hip-hop artist? Thanks. d.g. L3X1 (distænt write) )evidence( 16:49, 3 June 2017 (UTC)
Survey
edit- Yes - he's most definitely a rapper, to that part of your question ('is Fab a rapper or not?'). Whether or not that should replace 'hip-hop recording artist' is a separate matter, but there too I'm inclined to say it should, since that appears to be the choice I'm implicitly being asked to make (you might want to clean up the phrasing of your RfC, btw). Fabolous is almost always specifically and saliently described as a rapper, and it's unclear what additional mileage we get out of invoking hip-hop instead in the first sentence. - Yes - Sources describe him as a rapper and Yes that description can co-exist with hip-hop artist. New York rapper Fabolous...The hip-hop veteran, Rapper Fabolous, rapper known as Fabolous, rapper Fabolous, Fabolous, a Brooklyn rapper, rapper Fabolous, Brooklyn rapper, Brooklyn-born rapper, album for the rapper, Brooklyn rapper, “Lituation” rapper, Brooklyn-bred rapper, The “Make Me Better” rapper, Brooklyn-native and rapper Fabolous, Brooklyn rapper Fabolous, Brooklyn rapper, the rapper. In addition, numerous WP articles about his singles/albums/etc. all describe him as American rapper or rapper: Ghetto Fabolous, Everything, Everyday, Everywhere, Loso's Way, Street Dreams (Fabolous album),Real Talk (Fabolous album), From Nothin' to Somethin', The Young OG Project, There Is No Competition 2: The Grieving Music EP, The S.O.U.L. Tape, There Is No Competition 3: Death Comes in 3's, The S.O.U.L. Tape 2, Summertime Shootout, Freddy vs. Jason (album), Can't Deny It, Into You (Fabolous song), Baby (Fabolous song). - Yes - Definitely is a rapper by descriptions found in many sources. The rapper is more specific than just hip-hop artist, seeing as hip-hop is a broader scope being a culture as well as a genre of music, and hip-hop artist includes rap artists, but also includes non rappers as well. WikiVirusC (talk) 11:54, 12 June 2017 (UTC)
- Yes Summoned by a bot. Rapper is more descriptive than hip-hop artists, and he is widely cited through reliable independent sources as a rapper. Comatmebro (talk) 20:10, 15 June 2017 (UTC)
- Yes, but it is not a replacement for "hip-hop artist"; use both. Hip-hop and rap are different genres, and there's also a sourceable school of thought that "rapper" is categorically different from "musical artist of some sort" anyway, and is closer akin to poet. Another way of looking at it: if I were a stand-up comedian, rock guitarist, and jazz songwriter, and notable for all three of these things, my bio here would say so, and not leave one or two of them out just because some people can't tell the difference between jazz, rock and comedy, or between playing an instrument and writing lyrics, or between musical work and spoken-word work. — SMcCandlish ☺ ☏ ¢ ≽ʌⱷ҅ᴥⱷʌ≼ 18:53, 28 June 2017 (UTC)
Discussion
edit- Our own article quotes him as saying he is a rapper, however, I don't believe Hip-Hop Artist should be removed. d.g. L3X1 (distænt write) )evidence( 16:51, 3 June 2017 (UTC)
- I would argue he should be identified as a rapper and/or hip-hop artist based on how reliable sources have identified him. DonIago (talk) 16:40, 6 June 2017 (UTC)
