A fact from Faiz Shakir appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the Did you know column on 13 March 2019 (check views). The text of the entry was as follows:
The website attracted 225,000 volunteers in just 8 weeks
”
The reason given was "peacock". The peacock policy is meant to avoid ambiguous and unprovable words, like "greatest". Whereas I'm using objective facts (in this case numbers) to show his achievement. And multiple sources have used numbers to show this achievement:
“
[Shakir] began by rolling out exactly what he’d pitched to Romero: a bold 50-state plan for what he called “People Power.” ...Many new staffers are supporting People Power, which now has 250,000 members in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Source
”
“
At the ACLU, he also launched the “People Power” program, which engaged more than 210,000 activists across all 50 states.
In March he launched the “People Power” program, which has now engaged more than 210,000 activists across all 50 states.Source
”
“
Shakir launched peoplepower.org...After operating for just eight weeks, the site has already attracted 225,000 people...Source
”
“
Shakir recently published a blog post about how well People Power is working. To date, more than 250,000 people have signed up, and 4,000 activities have been posted nationwide. source
”
Then there are sources that make note of the numbers at Shakir's launch party:
“
Romero and Shakir spoke, as did the reality-TV host Padma Lakshmi. About 230,000 people watched online in viewing parties at private homes, coffee shops, and organic grocery stores.Source
”
“
The event, which was live-streamed to more than 200,000 people watching at gatherings around the country, was unlike anything the ACLU had ever done in its 97-year history.[Shakir is mentioned further below] Source
”
“
Shakir helped launch People Power...People Power debuted with a live-streamed “town hall,” which offered the 200,000 people who had gathered at house parties around the country... Source
”
It is uber clear to me that the numbers around the "People Power" project are widely regarded as an achievement. Since it is specific and unbiased, it is not "PUFFERY" in any way.VRtalk14:57, 23 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
