High

One of the key movies of the 1980s, national film registry Andman8 05:05, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

Regarding the accuracy of Clairemont High School as the school Cameron Crowe attended undercover: while it's true that around the release of the book and the film he said the school was in Redondo Beach, CA, it was later revealed that it was specifically Clairemont High in San Diego. See these more recent news articles for evidence: [1] [2] --Arteitle 04:42, May 5, 2004 (UTC)

Regarding the "Films selected for this honor are "not necessarily the 'best' American films ever made or the most famous, but they are films that continue to have cultural, historical or aesthetic significance"", why does that need to be there? There's no similar disclaimer on the pages of other films in the registry. --Bitoffish

Parodies?

Has the bikini scene from Ridgemont been parodied? This would be good information to add. Ghosts&empties 20:10, 17 May 2006 (UTC)

Music

Thanks to whoever figured out that the music playing during the pool scene is The Cars - Moving in Stereo! --JR 19:07, 9 September 2006 (UTC)

Note: When told to play side one of Led Zeppelin 4, we hear Kashmir from "Physical Graffiti." —Preceding unsigned comment added by Theoen (talkcontribs) 03:20, 13 April 2008 (UTC)

I bought Led Zeppelin 4 because of Kashmir. Then returned it because it was not on "4". Took me quite a while to find the correct album. I bet a lot of people bought "4", just because of Kashmir... 24.160.69.161 (talk) 15:25, 24 May 2009 (UTC)

Naked picture

Is the topless picture at * Are you serious? That is one of the best scenes in the entire movie! --JR 18:49, 9 September 2006 (UTC)

The topless is famous and a part of pop culture. The article not reflects that. Also, I did some cleanup, so can some one copy-edit behind me or possibly flesh out the plot summary spoilers? Thanks. Please no wholesale reversion; I'm working to make it better. BabuBhatt 03:34, 12 September 2006 (UTC)
The image and inclusion of the image in this article violates several aspects of Wikipedia:Fair Use#Policy; specifically criteria 2, 5, 8, and 10. Copyvio image removed. Ne1ls 20:52, 20 September 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, I like Jennifer Jason Leigh's tits as much as anyone else but it's not encyclopedic in the least. It's also not fair use. Besides, if we were to include a topless shot, it would have to be Phoebe Cates. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.41.138.181 (talk) 21:34, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
I disagree. I like Jennifer. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.14.86.165 (talk) 00:13, 17 January 2009 (UTC)

The two movie posters images are iconic enough to illustrate this topic. The porn image has been removed.Claffey27 (talk) 01:38, 18 March 2008 (UTC

What about mentioning the DVD Commentary by the Director stating how Phoebe Cates (while filming the swimming pool scene) was initially reluctant to do the nude scene because she thought the neighbors in the neighborhood would be watching from their rooftops! Might be "trivial" but still a movie-fact with the source being the DVD Commentary. What do you all think? (one of you can add it in if you'd like) MaxButterchuck (talk) 16:59, 21 May 2008 (UTC)MaxButterchuck

Plot summary

The plot summary was far too long and detailed for an encyclopedia article. I've rewritten it to be much more concise, in keeping with WP:Writing about fiction and following the advice at WP:How to write a plot summary. Feel free to edit the new summary, but please do not make it very much more detailed, and especially please do not simply revert to the old version, which was really inappropriate for a Wikipedia article. +Angr 09:54, 20 January 2010 (UTC)

Well done! :) Erik (talk) 17:44, 20 January 2010 (UTC)

Error

I found an error in this Wikipedia article. Can someone with more experience make a correction? This article states that the book is based on the author's (Cameron Crowe) experiences at Claremont High School in San Diego. The Claremont High School link points to Claremont High School in Claremont California, not San Diego California. The work quoted for this statement actually states that the high school is Clairemont High School in Clairemont California, which is a suburb of San Diego. Clairemont High School also has an article on Wikipedia. The article about Cameron Crowe states that he went to Clairemont High School when he wrote this novel. Fun facts

I feel like this section should be removed and worked into the plot somehow. It's essentially the sort of thing you expect on the IMDB trivia page. Renard Migrant (talk) 14:46, 9 August 2019 (UTC)

  • I wholeheartedly agree. "Fun Facts" are not encyclopedic. If the "fun fact" can be worked into the plot description without making it too detailed or wordy, then that's fine. Fish Man (talk) 19:33, 9 August 2019 (UTC)

sophomore - American english/culture?

In the second paragraph of the current version the term 'sophomores' is prominent. This is a term highly embedded in the educational and social world of the United States, rather than being widely understood. It doubtless also carries a range of meaningful cultural associations and significances in that setting which, while in all likelihood relevant to the content of the film, are not accessible to those unfamiliar with the term and its context.

An alternative that is more generally understood would be preferable. Given differences in terminology surrounding secondary education even in the US (let alone internationally), for example between high school and senior high school, a better option might be (even if a little cumbersome): 'in the lives of [....] who are aged fifteen to sixteen years and in their second year of high school, and their older friends [...]'. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.45.41.218 (talk) 00:59, 14 March 2022 (UTC)
