Neutrality
editI removed the following: "Lead singer, "Joe Dookie"(Dallas Tamaira) has met aclaim (sic) for his soulful vocals. Rolling Stone Magazine listed him as one of top 50 vocalists of our generation."
If it is to be included, can a reference be provided? I did a quick Google search, but turned up nothing and am dubious as to whether it is true or not. Also, if it was in a New Zealand only edition of Rolling Stone, that should probably be specified.
One other thing, could we cut down on the gushing a bit. Neutral point of view and all. - Hn 02:07, May 12, 2005 (UTC)
Yeah for sure, I am just learning my way around editing and creating material so any tips are appreciated. Gushing as in what you removed? I am unaware whether it was a New Zealand, Australasian or World Rolling Stone so I guess it was a good move removing that =).
Obble 2:54, May 12, 2005
- Oh, I just mean toning down stuff like "unparalled success" and "Lead singer, "Joe Dookie"(Dallas Tamaira) has met huge aclaim". Too much of that makes it read a bit like a PR piece. ;) - Hn 08:18, May 12, 2005 (UTC)
Search problem?
editThis page doesn't show up on any searches. I'm reasonably new to Wikipedia so I'm not too sure how to fix that up, but if anyone could that'd be great - I started writing my own page for FFD before I stumbled on this one by accident Graphia 02:58, 23 November 2005 (UTC)
- works for me. are you searching from the main wiki search box? --noizyboy 03:25, 23 November 2005 (UTC)
- That's also my point, it works when you do it from the main page or click 'go' but using the search button or a search engine in Firefox only brings up the big day out page.Graphia 01:37, 27 November 2005 (UTC)
- I assume your Firefox browser is using Google as its default search engine? It looks like the pagerank for the Big Day Out page is higher on a search than the actual FFD page. This is a function of Google's pagerank, rather than any problem with Wikipedia. If more sites link directly to the FFD wiki article, then that page's Google pagerank will rise. As it is, virtually nothing links to that page, hence the low rank (and low placing in search returns on Google). --noizyboy 00:52, 28 November 2005 (UTC)
Move to Fat Freddys Drop/Fat Freddy's Drop
editTheir own website and artwork consistently uses Fat Freddys Drop instead of Fat Freddy's Drop. The former redirects to the latter. It should be the other way around. --84.193.162.115 21:49, 19 February 2007 (UTC)
- Aye, that's what I was going to say. Motion seconded! Tamlyn 10:19, 1 June 2007 (UTC)
- Done. --Hl 10:32, 24 September 2007 (UTC)
- Fat Freddy's Support: 182,000 hits on google with apostrophe; 102,000 without. Inconclusive: Their website: http://www.fatfreddysdrop.com/ does not show an apostrophe consistently (sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't), but they often 'drop' it for cosmetic reasons, i.e. the font used on the 'Based on a True Story' cover art. It's there in all the liner notes in normal text. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 118.92.149.111 (talk) 04:32, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
- Support: The fact that the apostrophe is there when plain text is used is to me an indication that their formal/official name is "Fat Freddy's Drop". Also the apostrophe is there in "Fat Freddy's Cat". DJ U-Key (talk) 00:20, 17 July 2008 (UTC)

Joe Lindsay 148 years old?
editI just want to tell ya that *Hopepa (Joe Lindsay) is probably not the same dude this link (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Lindsay) directs to, cuz then he would be 148 years old!
In trying to get this message at the appropriate place I accidently removed the list of players / instruments(?) <3

Release Dates
editThe main article mentions that 'Based on a true story' was released in 2006 and the US release was 4 years later. This makes no sense as it's 2009. It should read one year later but I'm not 100% on the exact date so I'm placing it here in discussion. A number of sources, amazon included mark 'Based on a true story' as a 2005 release. I cannot confirm this with a qualified link but I'm positive this was released June 27th 05. Could someone investigate and correct this section please. (And then remove this from the discussion) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dhrigby (talk • contribs) 00:24, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
Interview Sources
editHere are a bunch of pre-formated sources with interviews from various members of the band. I haven't checked to make sure all of them are WP:RS, but most look legit. I'm planning on going through them sometime in the next few weeks and expanding the article some. If anybody wants to go ahead and use em feel free.

Fat Freddy's Drop → Fat Freddys Drop — Spelled without an apostrophe according to an interview in The Guardian.[1] The band's website and branded merchandise don't use it either.[2] —Sebquantic (talk) 13:53, 10 April 2010 (UTC)
Support as it is official nameAdabow (talk) 21:17, 18 April 2010 (UTC)- Change to oppose after reading Vegaswikian's link to the website, where the apostrophe is used throughout the site. Adabow (talk) 07:48, 21 April 2010 (UTC)
- Oppose however the website uses the 's version for the contact information and the copyright leading me to believe that is the correct name. This may well be a case where the logo is different then the actual name. Vegaswikian (talk) 22:52, 20 April 2010 (UTC)

Lead
editThere are three things that strike me about the first sentence of the lead:
- There's a source cited that the band's name is spelt without an apostrophe, and that's inconsistent with the discussion on the talk page and the resulting article name. At least, it's consistently spelt without an apostrophe throughout the article, but may I say that I find it a bit odd that the bolded bit in the lead is different from the article name.
- The sentence talks about a band. One band. Hence, it should read "Fat Freddys Drop is ..." In colloquial English, most people would say ... are ..., but this is supposed to be an encyclopaedic article and should thus use correct grammar.
- Maybe I'm old school, but "characterized" is AEng in my books, whereas the rest of the article uses BEng (as it should, as it's a NZ band).
I'd change it myself, but in my opinion, the spelling of the name should be discussed somewhere in the article, so there's a bit of work involved and I don't want to 'mess' with a GA article. I leave it to those who are the caretakers of this page. Schwede66 23:34, 20 May 2010 (UTC)
- All above I have done, and I removed the note about the band's apostrophe status. Adabow (talk) 23:54, 20 May 2010 (UTC)
