Requested move

edit

The name of this article is incorrect. I had thought the page had already been renamed, but it apparently fell off the screen after the last AfD. As the parent product of the franchise is serves as the name of the franchise (Highlander, Star Trek, Stargate, etc), this article should change to "Firefly (franchise)". The link to the discussion regarding the requested move can be found here - Arcayne (cast a spell) 21:10, 26 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

  Administrator note: Since no one's objected, I've moved it.--Aervanath (talk) 16:15, 1 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. - Arcayne (cast a spell) 15:08, 2 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Oppose The moving was discussed in the Article for Deletion log of the page and proved controversial. The page should be reverted to its original name until concensus can be reached.--Marcus Brute (talk) 15:11, 2 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Link to AfD.--Marcus Brute (talk) 15:12, 2 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
Comment Incorrect. While the moving was addressed in the XfD, it was not found to be an unfavorable choice, outside of yourself and a few others. Additionally, the link to the requested page move, and the discussion therein, went unanswered for the time period after which it was was performed. Silence is consent. You were silent, despite ample time to voice your opposition to the page move.
Lastly, this is an encyclopedia. Precedent notes that we follow other examples within the encyclopedia. Therefore, we use the name of the parent product of the franchise - Firefly. - Arcayne (cast a spell) 15:19, 2 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Move redux

edit

Just two things to say:

  1. I've dropped the moving admin a note to ask for their input.
  2. I don't think any admin is going to accept that a move back to the original page name would be non-controversial given that it's been moved so recently via request. Trying to force a move via a speedy tag is unlikely to work.

That's me done for the moment. "Happy editing", as no one in their right mind should say. – The Parting Glass 15:28, 2 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

The moving admin's comment: if you'd like to move it back, file another move request at WP:RM; also, drop a note at the related WikiProjects (whatever they are) to try to get more input. If there's no consensus on which name to keep it at, I will move it back to the most recent stable name.--Aervanath (talk) 17:26, 2 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

The image File:Fireflyopeninglogo.JPG is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. In particular, for each page the image is used on, it must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for the use in this article.
  • That this article is linked to from the image description page.

The following images also have this problem:

I copied the rationale for that image from Firefly (TV series), as I think the same applies here. First time I've done anything with image rationales, so if that's wrong, please let me know. Jomasecu talk contribs 20:17, 7 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Livejournal commentary

edit

I'm disappointed that there's no mention of the fact that Firefly is Joss Whedon's sexist, rapist fantasy. I trust this will be corrected soon. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.37.226.155 (talk) 03:03, 13 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Unless an actual reliable source cares about it, then those overly-aggressive and temperamental critiques of the show won't ever make it onto the Wikipedia mainspace.~ZytheTalk to me! 11:50, 17 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
Methinks I smell the author of that commentary here. As per Zythe, I wholeheartedly agree that unless a better citation appears than someone's cathartic blog about how a show is apparently inspiring/causing/advocating violence towards women, we should likely put a sock in it. - Arcayne (cast a spell) 14:01, 17 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
I'm disappointed that there's no mention of the fact that Joss whedon is quite literally God, just because someone wrote it on the internet once. I trust this will be corrected soon. --AdamField (talk) 23:48, 27 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

helioforming

edit

This was recently added to Stellar engineering:

In Firefly (TV series), set 500 years in the future, several Gas Giants are "Helioformed" to create viable suns for the surrounding planets and moons.

I don't remember any such thing, but I've only seen the TV/film – and in the Big Damn Movie all the inhabited planets seem to belong to a single star. Is helioforming mentioned in some other canonical work? —Tamfang (talk) 21:06, 6 May 2011 (UTC)Reply
