Flag of Spokane
Flag of Spokane

Moved to mainspace by SounderBruce (talk). Self-nominated at 01:59, 28 January 2020 (UTC).Reply

  • The first hook wows me more - I'd certainly want to click through to find out more about the flag being taken to Everest.
I wonder about the linking. The article is actually titled Flag of Spokane, Washington, and Spokane, Washington is linked in the very first sentence of the article, so is it overlinking to have the hook link to both articles?
Something like ... that the city flag of Spokane, Washington, was taken to the summit of Mount Everest in 1981? would remove one link, but looks a bit clumsy, so: I'm not sure.
Is "Washington" necessary (is there more than one Spokane?) - ... that the city flag of Spokane was taken to the summit of Mount Everest in 1981? is really short and sweet... but is it acceptable in terms of style and being unambiguous? --kingboyk (talk) 10:54, 28 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
I have shortened the links as suggested. SounderBruce 07:32, 29 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

@SounderBruce: Oh, have I talked myself into reviewing this? I thought I was just leaving a comment! -- kingboyk (talk) 08:03, 31 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
Whoops, I was on autopilot. I'm not sure if you can review this now that you've suggested a hook. SounderBruce 08:08, 31 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
General: Article is new enough and long enough
Policy: Article is sourced, neutral, and free of copyright problems
Hook: Hook has been verified by provided inline citation
Image: Image is freely licensed, used in the article, and clear at 100px.
QPQ: Done.

Overall: Article was new enough to mainspace when nominated, is easily long enough (~6000 chars), and has a valid QPQ. The image proposed is relevant and used in the article (it's the topic), has a valid license as far as I can tell, and is clear enough at the DYK resolution. The first hook is interesting enough, is included in the article, and is cited to a reputable published source. The article maintains a suitably neutral point of view on the topic, not e.g. complimenting or criticizing the flag's various designs. Claims are cited to reputable published sources. I see no signs of plagiarism from online sources. My only concern is that I can't parse the final sentence of the first paragraph of "First flag": what did Bigelow "disavow", and what does it have to do the American flag? It would be nice to have that sentence cleared up, and then this should be ready to go. This is ready to go and approved for DYK! Bryan Rutherford (talk) 22:04, 16 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

Flag

edit

I was on r/vexillology and I found Spokane changed there Flag, while Reddit is not a reliable source, the Spokane Flag Commission tweeted about the new design. WikiMakersOfOurTime (talk) 17:04, 10 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Until the city council officially adopts the new flag, it should not be included in the article. SounderBruce 19:14, 10 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
