Please explain

Please explain why this wiki article about Fred Russell has been flagged. It is simply a summary and short bio of one of the most decorated and influential sportswriters of the 20th Century. It is filled with facts and documented awards. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Relax777 (talkcontribs) 01:31, 12 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Come to think of it, it is an entry about one of the most influential American journalists of the 20th Century. He was contracted by the United States Government during World War II to write entertainment books for the American troops. He was on the forefront of progressive, visionary journalism promoting African-American minorities in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s, especially during the Civil Rights Era. He covered these important people and figures when many other journalists would not.

I want to know why this article is flagged and who flagged it. It is an absolutely essential part of American history. Relax777 —Preceding unsigned comment added by Relax777 (talkcontribs) 03:16, 13 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

This article has a "glowing" tone and isn't NPOV. However, as a longtime daily reader of Mr. Russell's work and someone who has met him, owns a copy of I'll Go Quietly and was generally in awe of him, I'm hardly the one to correct it. It nonetheless needs a thorough edit. 75.200.28.192 (talk) 05:47, 1 November 2010 (UTC)Reply
This article has stood for years, poorly written and largely unsourced. Russell is certainly deserving of better writing. I have been through it briefly and only scratched the surface by removing weasel words, unsourced attributions and blatant editorializing puffery. I'll start working on it and I encourage others to lend a hand. Eagledj (talk) 13:36, 24 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

I have rewritten this largely-unreferenced article, thrown out unsourced content (or found sources), removed non-NPOV tone, and added images.I have tried to bring it up closer to Wiki standards. I welcome any suggestions. Eagledj (talk) 15:29, 9 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
