The Free City of Danzig Police became a (para-) military formation when it was integrated in the "Brigade Eberhardt" under the command of then Major general Friedrich-Georg Eberhardt in July 1939.

The Free City of Danzig at that point consisted of the two regiments "Danziger Landes-Polizei-Regiment 1" and "Danziger Landes-Polizei-Regiment 2". Additionally an artillery unit was newly formed the "Danziger Artillerie-Abteilung" which was also part of the "Brigade Eberhard".

In late 1939 the Brigade Eberhard evolved into the 60th Infantry Division (Wehrmacht) which carried the two crosses of Danzig in its coat of arms.
