Agreement signed to develop & construct deep draught iron ore terminal in Paradip Port. PPP (Public-Private Partnerships)coal terminals in Paradip Port, Mormugoa Port, contains terminal at Ennore & Tuticorin, iron ore handling facility at new Mangalore port has been processed. Port Blair declared as major port. Dedication of Pipavav Shipyard. “Navaratna Status” to Shipping Corporation of India making it 17th Central Public Sector Enterprise in the country to be awarded. Four lane elevated expressway from Chennai to Maduravoyal. Due to goodwill gesture of Shri G.K. Vasan major strike by labour unions averted. Ennore-Manali Road Project (EMRP) in Tamilnadu to be completed in two years. A threefold increase is projected in traffic handling capacity of major ports by 2025-2026. Creation of Indian maritime investigation cell. Inspection of various ports of the country including major ports like Mumbai, Tuticorin etc. Steps to combat incidents of piracy. Approval of cruise shipping policy. Steps taken for implementation for Sethusamuduram canal project after legal hurdles are cleared. As Ministers for Statistics and Program Implementation
First Statistics Day (June 29) in recognition of notable contribution made by Prof. Mahalnbois celebrated.
New scheme “Urban Statistics & HR Assessments launched”. Steps taken to modernize Statistical System to International Standards. Under ministers able guidance phase to phase monitoring of central schemes were undertaken. Took steps to strengthen data collection mechanism in the Country. Birth and Parentage
Ayya G.K. Vasan was born on 28 December 1964 at Sundara Perumal Kovil in Tanjore District in Tamil Nadu. His parents are Late Shri G.K. Moopanar one of the renounced politician of Tamil Nadu and Shrimati Kasthuri Ammal.
Studies
He was educated at the Madras Christian College Higher Secondary School and graduated from the New College. He is the only son of a Veteran Congress leader Ayya G.K. Moopanar.
Family
He was married on 29, November 1996 to Shrimati Sunitha Vasan and blessed with a baby boy (son).

Neutrality warning
editThis text is more a personal essay than an encyclopedic article. Almost all of the unsourced judgemental statements try to put Mr. Vasan in the best possible light.
