I was tryin to say that in gaa players can be the best shot stopers in the world but if their fielding is terrible they will not play (Gnevin 22:19, 15 September 2006 (UTC))Reply

I had been looking at [2] (Frainc 23:48, 15 September 2006 (UTC))Reply

Ok so the GAA cant get it right what to do ? Go with Center Half Back and Center Half Forward? These would be more common ?(Gnevin 22:57, 15 September 2006 (UTC))Reply
Also if we could get a version of that image it would be a good addition to this artical (Gnevin 22:59, 15 September 2006 (UTC))Reply

Fixed positions

edit

Why are the positions "fixed", why don't some teams play different formations as is common in soccer?GordyB 13:46, 30 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Its to do with distance , the full forwards tend to be fast and can get in close to goal. Full backs tall to catch high balls while fast. Half forwards strong , can carry the ball well etc etc . Its sort of like Rugby Union where different aspects of the game require different skills Gnevin 20:20, 30 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Position Descriptions

edit

Do we really need to separate the Right and Left versions of each position? It would help the article if they were combined, in my opinion. As it is, they both use the same description modified for the side of the pitch the position is on, and sometimes have combined language. I would also refine the language of the descriptions a bit, as some of them use redundant language, such as using the name of the position multiple times in the description. I will gladly re-write them if a change is agreed to.

As an example, I would have the following, adapted from the current description:

Right and Left Corner Backs
The role of the Right and Left Corner Backs, who wear the number 2 and number 4 jerseys respectively, is to defend against opposing attackers, usually the left and right corner forwards. They play most often around the 20 metre line. These positions require the players to have decent short-burst speed and good hand-eye co-ordination. Agility and a well-developed aerobic system are also required, although strength and anaerobic endurance are not.

I think that's clearer and more concise than the current descriptions, which are:

Right Corner Back
The role of the right Corner Back who wears the number 2 jersey is to defend against opposing attackers, in particular the left corner forward. The right corner back will play most around the 20 metre line. The position of the right corner back requires that the player have decent speed over short bursts and good hand eye co-ordination. Endurance and strength are unnecessary, although agility of the player is required. In playing either Corner Back positions a well developed aerobic system is required although anaerobic endurance is not.
Left Corner Back
The role of the left Corner Back who wears the number 4 jersey is to defend against opposing attackers, in particular the right corner forward. The left corner back will play most around the 20 metre line. The position of the left corner back requires that the player have decent speed over short bursts and good hand eye co-ordination. Endurance and strength are unnecessary, although agility of the player is required. In playing either Corner Back positions a well developed aerobic system is required although anaerobic endurance is not. mpbx (talk) 06:04, 21 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Irish language?

edit

Why is there Irish language in this? Surely that should be reserved for the Irish version of the page?!80.76.195.144 (talk) 10:31, 18 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Full forward

edit

The "Full forward" seems to be missing on the descriptive picture, replaced by a "Center forward". Is this legit ? --methodood (talk) 15:33, 20 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
