Gamemaker → Gamemaker (disambiguation) – GameMaker is very obviously the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC for this word (as well as Game Maker). I believe this should be moved to make way for a WP:PRIMARYREDIRECT. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 18:31, 9 January 2024 (UTC)

- Yeah, I know WP:NWFCTYM, but gamemaker is to me, anyone who makes games, videogames or TTRPG or otherwise. I didn't know the game engine existed until this RM. Speaking of personal feelings, I hope this does not become a WP:SMALLDETAILS RM. Those stay open for weeks because they're difficult to close.
- Since my comment is so vibes-based, I'm willing to reconsider if there's data showing some primary topic. Thanks, Rotideypoc41352 (talk · contribs) 01:41, 12 January 2024 (UTC)
Oppose. The terms "game maker" and "gamemaker" seem to be used not infrequently outside the name of the engine as a colloquial term for video game developer:Saudi’s Savvy Games Buys Gamemaker Scopely For $4.9 BillionNetflix Sued Over ‘Rebel Moon’ by Game Maker That Claims Its World-Building Was Used in MovieCEO of Fortnite game maker casts Google as a ‘crooked’ bully in testimony during Android app trialNZ game maker reports $49m profit as Chinese Government eyes ‘golden share’'Marvel Snap gamemaker Second Dinner raises US$100 million in fundingThe Queer Games Avant-Garde: How LGBTQ Game Makers Are Reimagining the Medium of Video GamesUnity Production: Capturing the Everyday Game Maker Market (this doesn't refer to capturing the market from its rival)The YouTube channel Game Maker's Toolkit uses it as a generic term
The engine could very well be the primary topic (especially for the version without a space) but so far this isn't substantively proven.Support per discussion below. ― novov (t c) 10:53, 12 January 2024 (UTC)
- @Rotideypoc41352: @Mir Novov: Clickstream data from Wikinav would seem to show that most people click through to the engine, not "video game developer". Visitors from the DAB page make up 2.32% of the article's monthly views, and only 0.05% of "Game developer"'s monthly views, an extremely tiny amount. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 14:26, 12 January 2024 (UTC)
- Fair enough, I'll change my vote then. ― novov (t c) 01:35, 13 January 2024 (UTC)
- I find the news and book sources Mir Novov listed above illuminating. WP:DPT cautions against relying solely on any one metric (e.g. WikiNav or usage in English-language reliable sources) to determine the primary topic. So, it's helpful for any other participants (and the closer) to see multiple datasets.
- For example, I am weighing the fact that news headlines often use shorter phrases that may not reflect actual usage against WikiNav's data, which reflects only a month of <300 views per month. (One should hope that the articles and books above are clocking more than 300 views a month.) At this point, I have no strong views on the proposed move. - In my experience, "Gamemaker" or "Game maker" is just a weird, unusual and rarely-used phrase to describe a game developer with. "Gamedev", "game developer/game dev" or "indie dev" is far more common. Google Ngrams also bears that out, with "game maker" being tremendously less used. It has a spike in views when made case-insensitive, likely due to the engine, which used to be called "Game Maker" before changing its name. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 18:50, 14 January 2024 (UTC)

- Support, mainly per Zxcvbnm. While "game maker" in reference to a game developer/publisher is used in some headlines, like shown above, this seems to mainly be a headlinese convention; even in the linked articles, it's a much less common term in those articles' body text.
