First Name
editHow does she pronounce her first name? Hard G or soft? (Put it in the article). 24.36.35.188 (talk) 05:30, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
- Hard G but I don't think this needs to be in the article. — Robert Greer (talk) 20:58, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks. I mildly disagree (I notice the TIME magazine article linked in the intro thought it was worth a mention) but I'll defer to the judgment of people who regularly work in this area. 24.36.35.188 (talk) 22:41, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
- I strongly disagree. It is an unusual name with at least two possible ways to pronounce -- just the type of information for which Wikipedia is famous. It is, in fact, the information for which I turned to Wikipedia this evening. How disappointng. 24.126.7.86 (talk) 03:08, 27 February 2024 (UTC)

editI do believe that New York is in the USA. (Maybe not for the ballet world.) If the lady now lives in New York, what does "returning to the United States" mean? Bluefox79830 (talk) 03:30, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
- She lived and worked in Europe for several years. For a while, no ballet company or school in the US would have her, because of her substance abuse and mental health problems. 24.126.7.86 (talk) 03:12, 27 February 2024 (UTC)
No picture of Gelsey???
editThis is a disgrace!!! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.89.197.57 (talk) 00:28, 29 December 2011 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.216.251.125 (talk)
Arguably the greatest American ballerina of the 20th century, and she has no picture? She was a principal dancer with the New York City Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, and the Royal Ballet. Many of the greatest choreographers of the last century created works for her (Balanchine, Robbins, Tudor), and she danced with some of the greatest male dancers in history (Baryshnikov, Nureyev, Dowell), and she has no picture?? This is the great Gelsey Kirkland, somebody find a picture of her! 108.220.34.138 (talk) 10:32, 29 March 2012 (UTC)
- The problem is, you will need to find a photo of her that is free from a photographer's copyright, and in the public domain. Many of the photos in the wiki entries for individuals are photos taken by a fan or someone, while the artist was at a public event. Codenamemary (talk) 19:32, 22 October 2012 (UTC)

editGelsey Kirkland https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gelsey_Kirkland There should be citation references to the statements made in the "Trivia" section. There are too many statements made with absolutely no citation given. Reinashine (talk) 08:35, 18 April 2015 (UTC)Reinashine
