Geometric invariant theory (book)

edit

It seems that this article is almost exclusively devoted to description of Mumford's classic book, not the theory per se, and certainly, not in its modern form. Would it make sense to split the article in two and treat GIT separately from David Mumford, Geometric invariant theory, 1965? Arcfrk 06:04, 25 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

No, the reason it is from the GIT book is that I have the book, and I don't know much about the later theory. I find Mumford's insights very interesting, always. But it would be natural just to add more sections updating it all. Charles Matthews 21:08, 25 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Stable point

edit

Should 'Stable point' really redirect here? Seems like something that could use a disambig page. geeoharee (talk) 11:20, 13 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

It should redirect here to section "Stability". It should also not to be confused with stable fixed point. I have fixed this. D.Lazard (talk) 15:18, 13 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Polynomial functions on a vector space

edit

Is "the space of polynomial functions R(V) on V" this algebra or related to it? ᛭ LokiClock (talk) 11:41, 31 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

No, it's the symmetric algebra (rather than the tensor algebra) of the dual space of V. Sławomir Biały (talk) 12:52, 25 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Examples of stability needed

edit

Examples showing points which are stable, semi-stable, or unstable are needed. Furthermore, there should be a discussion about applications of stability and taking quotient stacks   for some  -variety  . — Preceding unsigned comment added by 97.122.75.155 (talk) 04:21, 18 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

But some concrete examples, while useful, can be distracting in the article; I think it's better to have worked-out examples in the "GIT quotient" article. -- Taku (talk) 21:44, 20 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
