Why was this revision (link) considered vandalism? Is there simply a disagreement of the "facts"? -- Richard D. LeCour (talk/contribs) 05:31, 13 February 2007 (UTC)
Gharana or gharānā?
editThere are several articles on specific gharanas. Some of these are accented, some not. Shouldn't they all be consistent? --RichardVeryard 10:08, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
- I have created two categories Category:Instrumental gharanas and Category:Vocal gharanas. It looks like only two articles have the accents, and the rest don't. --RichardVeryard 12:36, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
More information needed on Benares khyal gharana and dhrupad gharanas
editCould someone add more information about the Benares khyal gharana and the dhrupad gharanas? 140.177.205.221 (talk) 21:16, 19 May 2010 (UTC)
We need a lot more work in terms of history here Wikishagnik (talk) 13:21, 21 January 2012 (UTC)
We need to do more work here
editGharanas have a long history in Indian classical music and we need to add a lot here. According to some people Gharanas were started at the times of Mughals while some others state that they were there before the mughals. We need to add some sort of history to this page. This would also give a hierarchy of Gharanas Wikishagnik (talk) 13:23, 21 January 2012 (UTC)
- It's been over 10 years since this comment, but I hope that I can still shed some light on this. It's commonly held by musicologists and historians that gharanas as a concept predate Mughal era, with dhrupad gharanas probably dating back to the 7th century. In khayal itself, Qawwal Bacchon Ka Gharana / Delhi Gharana (not to be confused with the eponymous tabla gharana) is regarded as the oldest gharana, probably formed under Amir Khusrau. gharana of west bengal
editMerging Qawwal Bacchon Ka Gharana / Delhi Gharana
editThere are very little differences between both the gharanas. Wile there was, in general, a little bit of geographic separation happening a few centuries after its founding, the core of its singing remained the same. Many of its exponents are referred to as members of either gharana. AGaiki (talk) 05:41, 21 July 2022 (UTC)
