Midnight NOT a single.
edit"Midnight" is a not a single from the album. Coldplay just announced that "A Sky Full of Stars" is the second single from the album: "We're pleased to confirm that A Sky Full Of Stars will be the second single to be taken from the band's upcoming new album, Ghost Stories." And since "Magic" was the first...--z33k (talk) 18:31, 29 April 2014 (UTC)
- But it actually was physically released as a single. If I grabbed a "Midnight" vinyl single and showed it to you, would you believe me? RazorEye ⡭ ₪ ·o' ⍦ ࿂ 22:06, 29 April 2014 (UTC)
- Midnight IS a single, but only a Promotional single so this needs to be made clear on the article --Jonie148 (talk) 07:34, 30 April 2014 (UTC)
- "Promotional single" implies it was released to radio. It was not released to radio, and it was released commercially. RazorEye ⡭ ₪ ·o' ⍦ ࿂ 08:56, 30 April 2014 (UTC)
- I would say that it is a single, but with a limited number of copies, and that "A Sky Full of Stars" is the second official single from the album. Mayast (talk) 09:21, 30 April 2014 (UTC)
- A retail release as a single occurred, so it is the second overall single. No need to use original research terms like promotional single or official single, just say first single, second single, third single. The band can choose to only label their "radio singles" as official singles, but that does not mean we have to follow their whim. If we have verifiable proof that it was released as a retail single, then it is a single. STATic message me! 16:04, 30 April 2014 (UTC)

- So Wikipedia decides if it's a single or not, not the band itself...--z33k (talk) 10:52, 3 May 2014 (UTC)
- Again, we're going by what the releases are, not what the band / label wants them to be. If it was released as a single, but the band / label doesn't recognize it as an official single, it's listed as a single anyway, since it was indeed released as a 7" vinyl single on 19 April and on Digital download on 29 April. To say it is not a single is to either deny the existence of the 7" and digital download singles or misinterpret what a single is. A 'single' is not simply a word or label you slap onto a track; it is an actual, independent music release. RazorEye ⡭ ₪ ·o' ⍦ ࿂ 14:53, 3 May 2014 (UTC)
- I say that Midnight is indeed NOT a single. The band themselves intended it that way. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Drewfer5 (talk • contribs) 04:30, 7 May 2014 (UTC)
- Indeed, it does not really matter what you "say". There was a retail release as a single and it appears on the album, so it is a single from this album, easy as that. Not sure what the argument even is. It is not our job to blindly follow what the band wants to label it is or maybe they just do not know how to count to three. - Can we at least take this to a vote 'for/against'? There seems to be a lot of disagreement between a lot of editors and I feel we need to find an overall consensus. --Jonie148 (talk) 07:51, 7 May 2014 (UTC)
Once again it has been proved that Midnight was never an official single. Coldplay just announced True Love as the third single: http://m.coldplay.com/newsdetail.php?id=1671&page=0 --z33k (talk) 09:40, 4 August 2014 (UTC)
- In my opinion it is a single but not an official single... I think we have to say that on the Midnight page...(^_^)FilBenLeafBoy(^_^)(Let's TALK!) — Preceding undated comment added 20:23, 5 August 2014 (UTC)
Why the accepted revision barrier?
editI find it extremely annoying, personally. Why couldn't we just block the page from new and unconfirmed users just like an article such as The Hunting Party (album) does? That always works, I don't know why we have to do this. As of writing, this article has seven, count them, seven pending revisions. These edits come from Mayast and I, both legitimate editors on Wikipedia, with an edit from an IP as well. I don't know Mayast's opinion on this, but I am not amused by the fact that our edits are being blocked temporary for review, especially when it's been nearly 24 hours exactly since anybody's bothered to review it. We should be allowed to edit the article freely and, if necessary, use a temporary block on new and unregistered users instead, as to not bother anybody else wanting to actually edit this article. RazorEye ⡭ ₪ ·o' ⍦ ࿂ 01:19, 14 May 2014 (UTC)
- I am the one the request semi-protection at WP:RFPP, but I guess the admin did not see it as serious a problem as we do since we have been following the page. The only reason it messed up is because someone started editing the page before the first IP edit was accepted or declined. I accepted all the edits once I got on so they all appear now. Only the IP edits are under review not the edits by yourself/Mayast/me, the only reason they were marked as such is because no one had accepted or declined that first IP edit. If you want to dispute the pending changes it would be best to do it with the protecting admin. STATic message me! 03:55, 14 May 2014 (UTC)
- Ok, I made another edit and it was accepted automatically. But I agree with RazorEye, it's annoying – pending changes reviews are the reason why I don't edit much on Polish Wikipedia (you need to have 500 edits there to have your edits automatically accepted). And I don't find the explanation that "at least some of the IP contributions are constructive" very convincing, as you can find a few constructive edits by IP users on almost every page where semi-protection is requested. — Mayast (talk) 09:54, 14 May 2014 (UTC)
CD release in the Netherlands was on may 16.
editHello, I already got my CD today, I bought it at bol.com. Here's the page: Ghost Stories on Bol.com. Thewombatguru (talk) 13:54, 16 May 2014 (UTC)
- Added, thanks. Although now the digital release doesn't show up, but I can't find any mistakes in the table. Mayast (talk) 18:04, 16 May 2014 (UTC)
- I've net experimented with tables yet, so I don't know how to fix that, but we do have digital downloads already. Thewombatguru (talk) 20:13, 16 May 2014 (UTC)
- I was writing that also for other users, maybe someone will figure out what's wrong ;) We have digital releases, but not for the Netherlands. Mayast (talk) 20:28, 16 May 2014 (UTC)
- @RazorEyeEdits: As you are editing the release history table frequently, could you have a look at this Dutch digital release? I can't figure out why it isn't displayed properly. Or maybe it's just my computer? The table begins with nine rows for "16 May 2014" and "Parlophone", but I only see eight of them. Mayast (talk) 20:48, 20 May 2014 (UTC)
- I honestly. It's a glitch in the release box I can't seem to figure out. It's happened on numerous occasions in different info boxes on different articles, so I presume it is a problem with either wikitable itself or the possible fact that wikitable might not be able to handle all the different combinations of rowspans present. RazorEye ⡭ ₪ ·o' ⍦ ࿂ 00:39, 21 May 2014 (UTC)
- It seems that it's visible when we don't use rowspan in the "Catalog no." column for the Netherlands and New Zealand. I would leave it like that, if it's OK with you. Mayast (talk) 09:40, 21 May 2014 (UTC)

Credits
editIs Avicii really credited in the CD liner notes as Tim Bergling? I mean the producer credits for "A Sky Full of Stars" (as producers are usually credited with their pseudonyms), not songwriting credits (where full names are usually used). Mayast (talk) 20:46, 16 May 2014 (UTC)
- In my CD version for the Netherlands he's credited as Tim Bergling, yes. Thewombatguru (talk) 06:49, 17 May 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks :) Mayast (talk) 11:53, 17 May 2014 (UTC)
Guy Garvey from Elbow should be credited for additional lyrics on Another's Arms. His distinctive voice is easy to pick out, regardless of how short "(Is there) Someone here to reach me, Someone here to find me". Anybody who can verify? Marc.compton (talk) 16:09, 24 May 2014 (UTC)

Please add that the track "O" includes hidden song "Fly On" because the song "O" itself is an ambient song at the end of the album (after "Fly On"). For more see "http://rock.rapgenius.com/Coldplay-fly-on-lyrics" Thanks 79.4.144.171 (talk) 09:45, 12 June 2014 (UTC)

Alternative Rock Genre
editI think that Ghost Stories is both Electronic and Alternative Rock. Songs like "Oceans" and "Magic" for example are Alternative rock...
I added two times alternative Rock in "Genre" but an anonymous user insist to delete it. What do you think about it?
Magic is a pop ballad, as song's page telling is. With pop beats, pop atmosphere and slighty pop-rock arrangeneering at the end. Oceans is the mix of pop music, pop rock, electronica and ambient. You can see the proof if you want[1] The most "alternative" song in this record is eponimous song from deluxe edition. But it's folk-pop too. Humble, "alternative rock" is VERY different from this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.26.235.156 (talk) 14:53, 26 July 2014 (UTC)

- In any case, the genres of an album are not automatically assembled from the genres of the contained songs. Instead, the album should be observed to have its own overall genre, published in reliable sources.

Pop Rock Genre
editMajority of the songs on the album incorporate elements of pop rock, including Magic, Always In My Head, True Love, etc. These songs all incorporate modern pop beats & rhythms but include rock (or soft rock) oriented sounds such as distorted guitar riffs, slow tempos, etc etc; Making them prime examples of Pop rock. Not to mention some of the infoboxes on the songs' pages list pop rock as the genre as well. So why isn't Pop rock one of the genres listed on the album's infobox? Is "Midnight" a single?
editThere was a discussion years ago whether "Midnight" was to be included in the singles or not. At the end it was decided to keep it in the list. And it stayed there until last week when a user deleted it without previously discussing the issue. In my opinion that edit should be reverted, but I thought that it was better to discuss it before doing anything. Is it right to keep it in the list? (Just to mention it, Coldplay's official website lists "Midnight" as a single[1].) FilBenLeafBoy (Let's Talk!) 14:28, 31 May 2021 (UTC)
- Midnight (Coldplay song) lists it as promo, and that link's cover does seem to be like those of promo singles. I can't read anything conclusive at #Midnight NOT a single. (CC) Tbhotch™ 03:06, 2 June 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks for answering! Yes, the problem is that the Midnight (Coldplay song) page listed it as a single until last week, when the same user deleted it from this page, from Coldplay discography and changed Midnight's status from "single" to "promotional single" in the Midnight page, without any discussion. In my opinion all these edits should be reverted, unless a user poll agrees to keep them. Midnight was physically released (with its own cover, like other singles from the album), while, if I well understand, a promo single is released for radios and digital download only, without selling any physical copy. - Wikipedia:Singles criteria gives helpful criteria of what a single is. (CC) Tbhotch™ 02:37, 3 June 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks, now we know it is a single. One of the criteria refers to Official Charts Company, which lists Midnight among Coldplay singles. I will wait another week to see if others would like to discuss the issue and then I'll try to revert the edit. Thanks again! FilBenLeafBoy (Let's Talk!) 11:48, 3 June 2021 (UTC)
- If you are talking about this it's not the case because it lists Another's Arms as well. It must come from here. (CC) Tbhotch™ 19:25, 3 June 2021 (UTC)
- It seems that the page you linked only lists recent releases, if you search through the archive, you find this with Midnight at no. 89, but it's just a chart, I mean it includes all songs, not just singles. I don't know where to look: Parlophone does not have an official website, Billboard lists Midnight with all other Coldplay singles, but it still refers to charts.
That said, I still believe it to be a single, Coldplay physically released it, with its own artwork, and consider it to be a single. Promotional singles are not listed with official singles on their website. FilBenLeafBoy (Let's Talk!) 17:40, 5 June 2021 (UTC)
