Fair use rationale for Image:Glebe DR.svg

edit

Image:Glebe DR.svg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Les Cubitt was an international

edit

I've come across this issue before where some sources ignore Les Cubitt as a international. Presumably this is because it was an Australasian side that he captained in 1921-22. But this issue can be ignored since he also played for a pure Australian side that toured NZ in 1919. So unless anyone disagrees I'll call him an international and change the Reds national rep tally to twelve. -Sticks66 14:22, 13 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Glebe Dirty Reds

edit

The article states that 'Dirty Reds' was a nickname, yet the location of the page (the page title) suggests that Glebe Dirty Reds is the official name of the team. AlexJ (talk) 17:51, 24 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

No real difference to Broncos or Raiders etc. except not enshrined in paper work and logos et al as they are today. But it's been moved anyway.

Good Article Review

edit
  • 1a) - Fail. Some bits weren't explained clearly enough, plus a couple of smaller errors.
  • 1b) - Fail. The lead doesn't summarise the article.
  • 2a) - Pass.
  • 2b) - Pass.
  • 2c) - Pass.
  • 3a) - Neutral. I'd like to see more background information, but I realise the sources and information might not be available.
  • 3b) - Pass.
  • 4) - Pass.
  • 5) - Pass.
  • 6) - Neutral. Pictures not required, but some would be nice. Per WP:PD, "In the U.S., any work published before January 1, 1923 anywhere in the world is in the public domain." Therefore, if you can find any pre-1923 pictures to illustrate the article, then you can use them.

Overall then it's a fail. Some more specific points to help improve the article:

  • History section starts a bit abruptly with their first game. As the lead is meant to be a summary of the article contents, don't be afraid to repeat the stuff there in the history section, if possible in more detail. Information on who founded the club etc. would be interesting if known.
  • "Glebe went down 16–3 to minor premiers South Sydney" - minor premiers should perhaps be linked to Minor premiership.
  • "In the final in which Glebe had a chance to take away the premiership, Eastern Suburbs won 22–9, forcing the first-ever Grand Final to be played." I'm a little confused here on how the competition worked. Is this final after the regular-season? Why was there a need for a Grand Final after the final?
  • "Eastern Suburbs fought back and took the lead within the final ten minutes to 11–8, giving them the premiership." Not 100% on terminology, but would it be more correct to say premiership title or premiership honours here rather than just premiership?
  • "Following the Glebe's" - Remove "the"
  • "they came desperately close to taking out the premiership." desperately a bit unnecessary to that sentence.
  • "going down 10-2" used several times during the article, and comes across a bit too match report-like for an encyclopaedia article to me. Remember the article may be read by non sport followers so spelling the meaning out clearly and formally is generally preferred.
  • "the club's form started to decline and for the first time since 1910 Glebe lost more games than they won" needs a comma after 1910.
  • "In 1926, as it turned out, they were given one last shot at the premiership when the finals series was reinstated." as it turned out looks out of place.
  • "also the standing Austrlian" - typo
  • Article doesn't mention what happened after the expulsion, I assume they were disbanded but if possible the article should confirm this.
  • Again as the lead is meant to summarise the main article, perhaps a section on team colours should be made. Not quite sure if it would be possible to find out why they played in maroon, but it would be interesting, as it gave them their nickname.

Hope that will help. AlexJ (talk) 21:46, 24 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

GA Review

edit
This review is transcluded from Talk:Glebe (rugby league team)/GA1. The edit link for this section can be used to add comments to the review.
Lead
  • What does premiership refer to?
  Done MDM (talk) 03:58, 14 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
History
  • It opens with the club's first game. It misses out how, why and where the club were founded.
Done, by adding another two paragraphs at the beginning of the history section, but I have a feeling they could be worded a little better. If you can, do you think you can help out there as I seem to be going around in circles every time I try and fix something. MDM (talk) 04:43, 14 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
  • "In 1910, the club had a mediocre season and had little chance of ever taking the premiership out." POV and unreferenced.
  Done MDM (talk) 04:55, 14 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
  • "The 1911 season was arguably the most successful in the club's history, taking out the minor premiership outright by two points and winning 11 of their 14 matches on the way including their first-ever victory over local rivals Balmain 41–2 in the second last regular-season match of the season." A long sentence, with too many themes going in. Consider splitting up.
  Done MDM (talk) 04:55, 14 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
  • "In round 4" should be "In round four" I think
  Done MDM (talk) 03:58, 14 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
  • "1913 and 1914 proved to be mediocre seasons for Glebe and despite winning more games than they lost in each year, the club only managed to finish fourth and fifth respectively." Don't start sentences with numbers. Also unreferenced and POV in this form.
  Done MDM (talk) 04:55, 14 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
It still starts with numbers. It's not good prose to start a sentence with a number, even if it does refer to a year. Peanut4 (talk) 22:15, 14 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
  • "In 1922, they finally managed another shot at the premiership with they and North Sydney finishing on equal points at the end of the season." I don't understand this. I think it should be "because they and North Sydney finished" or "when they ... finished"
  Done MDM (talk) 03:58, 14 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
  • What happened after expulsion?
  Done. MDM (talk) 05:12, 14 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
  • Make sure Glebe takes either singular or plural consistently. At the moment, there is a mixture.
Not done Could you give an example of where is the case? Keep in mind that in the introduction, Glebe is referred to both as "Glebe" (plural, "Glebe were") and "the club" (singular, "the club was"). I thought it was okay to use both, although if you see it as a problem I will change it. MDM (talk) 05:12, 14 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
Colours
  • This is a very stubby section. If you expand the club's pre-league history and foundation, I reckon it would go there.
  Done MDM (talk) 04:55, 14 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
Statistics
  • "As an individual, Frank Burge holds all of Glebe's records." Is this strictly true. I doubt he holds every single record, however obscure you need to get.
Not done There's simply not one major record at the club that he didn't hold. There isn't any notable record in the sport which hasn't been mentioned in that article, and in every instance he holds each and every one. MDM (talk) 05:12, 14 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
General
  • Numerals less than ten should be in words not figures per WP:MOSNUM.
  Done MDM (talk) 03:58, 14 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
  • Numerals and units should be broken by non-breaking spaces per WP:MOSNUM.
Not done After a quick browse through the article, I can't seem to find any situations where that's relevant. MDM (talk) 03:58, 14 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
There's loads, e.g. 10 rounds, 14 matches and most of the statistics section. It doesn't have to be units in the broadest sense of the word. WP:MOSNUM explains why you need the non-breaking spaces. Peanut4 (talk) 22:14, 14 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

A bit to do, but nothing substantial. The main part is explaining how the club were founded. I'll put it on hold. Peanut4 (talk) 22:21, 13 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

GA review (see here for criteria)
  1. It is reasonably well written.
    a (prose):   b (MoS):
  2. It is factually accurate and verifiable.
a (references):   b (citations to reliable sources):   c (OR):
  3. It is broad in its coverage.
    a (major aspects):   b (focused):
  4. It follows the neutral point of view policy.
    Fair representation without bias:
  5. It is stable.
    No edit wars etc.:
  6. It is illustrated by images, where possible and appropriate.
a (images are tagged and non-free images have fair use rationales):   b (appropriate use with suitable captions):
  7. Overall:
    Pass/Fail:

Meets all the GA criteria. Well done. It could do with some images, but I guess that might be difficult on a club of this period. Peanut4 (talk) 20:32, 18 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
