Birth date and place
editOn the subject of her date / place of birth, the Allmusic website here - [1] has her details as 12 September 1938, Longview, Texas. Indeed, this is not the only source for these particulars. They vary in almost every respect to the present Wiki quoted information as 19 October 1945, Cincinnati, Ohio. Seven years is a long time. Is anyone able to specifically pin this one down ?! Sources and citeable references please - not "I think" etc. Thank you, Derek R Bullamore (talk) 21:39, 31 August 2008 (UTC)
I'm Gloria's assistant, and her birthday is 19th October 1945. The other birthday is for another singer with the same name. Automaticshoes (talk) 01:11, 21 September 2008 (UTC)
- OK - which singer exactly ? - and can you verify her birth place (with a credible, reliable source) for both please. Perhaps you can understand how confusion arises. Kind regards, Derek R Bullamore (talk) 01:34, 21 September 2008 (UTC)
Current status
editFrom the article as it stands:
- She has since worked as a musical supervisor for films and is presently living in Sierra Leone, where she is building The Marc Bolan School Of Music And Film.
- She now resides in New Salem, PA with her new husband, Chris Mitchell.
Is she in Sierra Leona, or New Salem, or both? This is rather bewildering as it stands. ElijahOmega (talk) 18:08, 4 December 2009 (UTC)
"Recorded the Northern Soul song..."
editTo me that sounds like she picked the genre "Northern Soul" to record, whereas my understanding is that Northern Soul is a term applied to songs later... is there a better way to word that? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.35.135.136 (talk) 03:33, 2 January 2010 (UTC)
Linking madness

Blacklisted Links Found on the Main Page
editCyberbot II has detected that page contains external links that have either been globally or locally blacklisted. Links tend to be blacklisted because they have a history of being spammed, or are highly innappropriate for Wikipedia. This, however, doesn't necessarily mean it's spam, or not a good link. If the link is a good link, you may wish to request whitelisting by going to the request page for whitelisting. If you feel the link being caught by the blacklist is a false positive, or no longer needed on the blacklist, you may request the regex be removed or altered at the blacklist request page. If the link is blacklisted globally and you feel the above applies you may request to whitelist it using the before mentioned request page, or request it's removal, or alteration, at the request page on meta. When requesting whitelisting, be sure to supply the link to be whitelisted and wrap the link in nowiki tags. The whitelisting process can take its time so once a request has been filled out, you may set the invisible parameter on the tag to true. Please be aware that the bot will replace removed tags, and will remove misplaced tags regularly.

Age displaying wrongly
editIf she was born 1945-10-19 then as of today she should be 71 not 69. I've tried fixing it but it refuses to correct itself. Can anyone please sort this out? 2.29.250.107 (talk) 09:33, 27 September 2015 (UTC)
Sexism
editWhy does the article make repeated references to Marc Bolan's lacklustre cover of Tainted Love? Is it because Gloria Jones is famous only for being a footnote in the career of a more famous man? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 131.111.185.81 (talk) 16:50, 14 February 2016 (UTC)
Jerry Garcia Band?
editIs this the Gloria Jones who was in the Jerry Garcia Band from 1984 to 1995? The article sure doesn't say anything about that, so maybe that was a different person. I tried looking this up on Allmusic, with mixed results. In the credits for this Gloria Jones, here, one Jerry Garcia Band album is listed, they may be getting mixed up -- for a different Gloria Jones, here, they list another Garcia Band album. Can anyone provide a definitive answer? — Mudwater (Talk) 18:30, 9 July 2011 (UTC)
- I'm bumping this thread from 2011. A few months ago, editor Tonymannara added the Jerry Garcia Band information to this article, here and here. I've gone ahead and added links to and from the album articles. But, how do we know that the Gloria Jones who sang Motown songs like "Heartbeat", and later performed with T. Rex, is the same Gloria Jones who was in the Jerry Garcia Band? It's certainly plausible, but I still don't see a reliable reference saying that "the two Gloria Joneses" are actually one and the same person. Can anyone provide such a reference, or at least some more information? — Mudwater (Talk) 19:19, 14 January 2017 (UTC)
- @JLL511: Hello. Thanks for your recent edit. I'm going to move what you said from the article to here: "Although Ms. Jones was previously noted in this listing as being a former member of the Jerry Garcia Band, that is simply not the case. Coincidentally, another vocalist named Gloria Jones (from Oakland, CA) is credited as being one of the late Jerry Garcia's longtime backup vocalists in his band from 1984 - 1995. (See External Links below for photo references.)" I think you're on to something. Feel free to comment further, if you want to, here in this talk page section. — Mudwater (Talk) 16:40, 4 February 2017 (UTC)
- @Tonymannara: Hello! Feel free to join the discussion, since you added the Jerry Garcia Band albums to the article, here. — Mudwater (Talk) 16:52, 4 February 2017 (UTC)
The Gloria Jones who was in the Jerry Garcia Band died on February 1, 2019.[1][2][3] Again, this article is about a different singer named Gloria Jones. There have been several recent edits on this article by people who, naturally enough, are thinking that they are the same person.

Died?
editIt says she died in 2019 in the info box. If this person is dead then it should be stated at the start of the article? Scooch Cubing (talk) 11:59, 28 June 2022 (UTC)
- @Scooch Cubing and Egghead06: You're right, that's the wrong Gloria Jones. Here's the one who died on February 1, 2009. She's mentioned in the hatnote for this article. — Mudwater (Talk) 22:17, 28 June 2022 (UTC)
- Ah that makes more sense, thank you. Scooch Cubing (talk) 23:14, 28 June 2022 (UTC)
