Music Video

edit

Out of professional curiosity, does anyone know who directed the video for this song? It looks like it might be Mark Romanek's work, and some of the guys in the vid have collaborated with him in the past, but can anyone actually confirm who it is?

Tony Kaye: [1] - tried to cite that in the article correctly but I'll leave that to real wiki editors who know the markup. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.116.30.113 (talk) 06:33, 12 February 2008 (UTC) Radical AdZ —Preceding unsigned comment added by Radicaladz (talkcontribs) 13:48, 27 December 2006Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:Run On.jpg

edit

Image:Run On.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

who the first guy that talks about wearing black is? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 131.109.225.75 (talk) 19:23, 12 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

It's Johnny Cash's last producer, Rick Rubin

What was this song originally?

Negro spiritual? Appalachian folk? What? Serendipodous 21:28, 30 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

I do not see Johnny Cash's version as cynical, dark, yes, & a warning, yet, not, ultimately, grim.

Entrance theme usage

edit

Hi I'm relaying an edit request from elsewhere: "change the Johnny Cash (cut you down song page) to mention that it was featured in th TV show Kingdom as a characters (Ryan Wheeler) entrance theme". They also provided this link. Opencooper (talk) 21:44, 22 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hello. Also...in addition to this usage, it was used in the WWE as an entrance theme for the Undertaker at Wrestlemania 33 — Preceding unsigned comment added by EasleyTim77 (talkcontribs) 19:38, 11 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

Heavenly Gospel Singers, "You Better Run On"

edit

The song recorded by Heavenly Gospel Singers, called "Run On" and "You Better Run On" in their catalogue, is a completely different song from "God Almighty's Gonna Cut You Down" per the Jubilaires, Odetta, Johnny Cash, and so forth.

The theme is the same, besides the difference between "you better run (if you want to avoid suffering)" and "you can run if you want (but you won't avoid suffering)", but musically they're not commonly derived.

Thank You. I tried to make an edit to that effect, but it was reversed.

Without a reference it is original research. You deleted referenced content based on a personal opinion. Notfrompedro (talk) 21:38, 11 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

Merger proposal

edit

I am proposing that Run On (Moby song) be merged into God's Gonna Cut You Down. Rather than creating a wholly new song from a sample of one or two lines from the original (as in e.g. Fatboy Slim's "Praise You"), Moby includes almost the entirety of the vocals from the original with new accompaniment. I am sure there are gray areas between a remix and a sample-based original, but this one certainly seems to fall squarely into the remix category to me. - Literally Satan (talk) 06:26, 13 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
