editDoes anyone know anything about the Australian release of this movie? I.e. its date of release and the name it was released under. I can't have seen it in 1956, but I have a faint childhood memory of it being in some cinemas, presumably some years later and perhaps not on its intitial release here. I thought it was called The Fire Monsters at that time, rather than Gigantis the Fire Monster. Is anyone old enough (or does anyone maybe have parents old enough and interested enough) to have a clear memory of this? :) Metamagician3000 03:18, 15 January 2006 (UTC)
Godzilla Raids Again
editAccording to the information on Wikipedia concerning this movie, the title is attributed to a VHS release by Video Treasures. However I remember this title being used back in the 1970's when refering to this movie.

Missiles?
editWhat kind of "missiles" are JSDF pilots firing into mountains in 1955? The US and USSR were only just developing the very first generations of guided air-to-air missiles around this time (exclusively for aerial combat, not ground attack), and it seems unlikely that they would be in service in the JSDF, or a part of the wider Japanese social consciousness yet. The first combat use of the Sidewinder was in 1958, production started in 1955. And that was one of the very first aerial missiles in service.
Unguided rockets, however were in their heyday as aerial and air-to-ground weapons in the 1950s, and I suspect that is what is depicted in the film.

Lead
edit- kaiju film would be better with only kaiju linked as the article is about kaiju in general and not just in films.
- June 2, 1959 by Warner Bros. Pictures, should be "June 2, 1959, by Warner Bros. Pictures," per MOS:DATES.
Plot
edit- Pipe hydrogen bomb to Thermonuclear weapon
- Rename JSDF to Japan Air Self-Defense Force to make things clearer for the reader, unless you want to write it as Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JSDF).
- Unlink avalanche as a common word
Cast
edit- If all of the cast is linked to the book reference, you don't need to use it twice in the list.
- The section goes on to say that the cast is taken from Japan's Favorite Mon-star which is a different book. Without using an account to check out that Archive book, I'm assuming that it references the entire cast except for Godzilla and Anguirus. If that is the case, I suggest rewording "Cast taken from Japan's Favorite Mon-star" to something that clarifies it does not include the roles of Godzilla and Anguirus.
Special effects
edit- "Weren't" to "were not"
- Unlink puppet as a common word
Theatrical
edit- "The Japanese version was released to Japanese speaking theaters in the United States prior to the altered American version." When was the Japanese version released to Japanese speaking theaters in the United States? I never heard of such a thing in the United States.
- I'm confused by this comment and what the issue is. Is the issue that you've never heard of its release to Japanese-only theaters in the U.S., or the lack of a release date for these Japanese-only theaters? The source, you can find here (1), only states that the Japanese version was released in Japanese speaking theaters before the 1959 American version. No date is specified. I thought it best to write it as it is written by the source to avoid disputes. Armegon (talk) 08:20, 3 January 2022 (UTC)
- "Armegon I meant that I never heard of such as a thing of theaters in the United States that played only Japanese language films. That book is the only source where I can find such a mention of it. Searching for "Japanese speaking theaters" with the quotes on Google reveals only unreliable sources. Google Books reveals nothing new. SL93 (talk) 10:23, 3 January 2022 (UTC)
- I brought this up at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Film for assistance. SL93 (talk) 10:30, 3 January 2022 (UTC)
- I closed my Wikiproject Film section because I found my answer. Other reliable sources refer to it as "Japanese movie theaters". I think your wording is fine and understandable now. SL93 (talk) 10:44, 3 January 2022 (UTC)

American version
edit- "Didn't" to "did not"
- "May 21, 1959" should be "May 21, 1959,"
- Link dubbing to Dubbing (filmmaking) as a potentially unfamiliar term SL93 (talk) 21:05, 2 January 2022 (UTC)
- "Years later, Tanaka admitted that the crew had little time to prepare and hardly considers the film a success." What year exactly?
- Changed this one to "Tanaka later admitted that the crew had little time to prepare and hardly considers the film a success." Armegon (talk) 08:02, 3 January 2022 (UTC)
- That works. SL93 (talk) 10:24, 3 January 2022 (UTC)
