I have to agree - this article is ludicrously overlong, indulgent, pretentious, confusing and subjective. I don't know enough about Perry to clean it up myself, however (in fact I came here to find out more about him and am more baffled than before). Anyone up for the challenge of sorting this mess out? The article is not too long. Perry is a Turner Prize winner (2003), which in itself makes him an important British artist; since winning the prize he has become part of the art establishment. His work is autobiographical, so an account of his childhood and youth, especially in relation to his work, is necessary. His method of making pottery is complicated and unusual, and that also has to be described. 2,500 words seems a reasonable length to me. Having said that, some copy editing is in order. OK, I've copy edited it, taking out the waffle, repetition and most of the incomprehensible sentences, and it's now 1,200 words shorter. It needs more work - please help. The references are still a bit of a mess - some of them are not identifiable. Marshall46 (talk) 14:22, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

The passage you have inserted doesn't add much to the article.

Who threw him out?

The article says "At the age of 15 he moved in with his father's family at Chelmsford, where he began to go out dressed as a woman. When he was discovered by his stepfather he said he would stop, but his mother told everyone about it and a few months later threw him out. He returned to his mother and stepfather at Great Bardfield."

So he was living at his fathers house but his stepfather discovered his crossdressing and his mother told everybody and then threw him out so he went back to his mother and stepfather? Should it not read "At the age of 15 he moved in with his father's family at Chelmsford, where he began to go out dressed as a woman. Mugisa?

The word drongo is used in Australia as a mild form of insult tantamount to the term "idiot". This term derives from a racehorse in the 1920's that did not win in 47 starts. 81.157.161.124 (talk) 02:32, 27 September 2013 (UTC)

Transsexual/transgender

Perry is a transvestite - he dresses up in women's clothing - rather than being transsexual/transgender. "Socialists"

I understand that the English have a particularly low bar in the definition of somebody as a socialist, but given that Perry doesn't even seem to support Corbyn, a mainstream democratic socialist and appears to prefer the crypto-Toryism of the New Labour era, is there any particular reason why we are including him in a category of socialists?
