Kourabiethes Or Kourabiedes
editThere is something wrong with this main page
"Kourabiethes" is listed as a Christmas cookie
The Text
"Kourabiethes, Christmas cookies made by kneading flour, butter and crushed roasted almonds, then generously dusted with powdered sugar."
Note "Kourabiethes" is in red
But there is a picture with "Kourabiedes" and Wiki has a page for this as beeing guess what a "Christmas cookie"

None of them is right, actually Κουραμπιέδες is how its called in greek and it can hardly be written with latin characters. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.68.175.207 (talk) 21:51, 21 October 2011 (UTC)
There are many ways to romanize Greek, none perfect, but none "wrong". There are two interesting transliteration difficulties with the word Κουραμπιέδες -- μπ represents /b/ and ι represents the semivowel /j/, not the vowel /i/. Anyway, it is just the Greek borrowing of a word found in many languages: written قرابیه in Persian, Ottoman Turkish, and Azerbaijani, and (acıbadem) kurabiye in modern Turkish. --Macrakis (talk) 23:44, 21 October 2011 (UTC)

I also want to talk about the image of the Greek salad. I do not think that it is the best one, the most representative, because of the depicted seeds of the bell pepper. As a kid I was always wondering whether I had to eat them or not, but I always preferred to avoid them. In my opinion, the best form of Greek salad is without the seeds of the bell pepper, therefore the image could be a little disgusting to foreigners or very finicky Greeks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 185.156.63.5 (talk) 16:27, 14 December 2019 (UTC)

Translation
editUser:IvanScrooge98 recently added the translation of the expression "Greek cuisine" into Greek after the article name in the lead. As a general rule, we don't translate descriptive titles of articles (History of France, French verb morphology, French art, etc.) but only proper names of things and events (Court of Cassation (France), Franco-Prussian War, etc.). I deleted the translation, with an explanation in the Edit summary. He restored the translation without explanation. I brought this up on his talk page, but got no response.
I have also suggested that the MoS clarify this case, but no one has contributed to that discussion.
If there is no further discussion, I will remove the translation. --Macrakis (talk) 23:10, 1 September 2015 (UTC)

Lists
editThis article is becoming very heavy on lists: there are several, and some are really rather long for a text article, indeed the main article on Greek cuisine. It would make more sense to merge the lists into the existing List of Greek dishes, and to add a link to that article. There is no sense in maintaining a WP:FORK with a long set of lists here, and another set of lists in the proper place, a list article. Lists of lists are, in any case, no substitute for proper discussion in text of the nature of Greek cuisine.
Many of the sections are very light on citations, and the lists are almost totally uncited, greatly reducing the article's quality. Given the abundance of reliable sources on the cuisine, it should be straightforward to provide good sources for all the claims made. Chiswick Chap (talk) 08:47, 25 July 2020 (UTC)
Restore of older version(s) undone
editI've undone this edit: [1] by Ronbb345, which was a restore to an old version of the article from 24 July, combined with the lead paragraph from 25 December 2019 (see Special:Diff/969347462/981830414 and Special:Diff/932381082/981830414. The restore had reverted a large number of edits by numerous editors, particularly those of Macrakis and Chiswick Chap, which seem to have been improvements. The explanation given was: Other national cuisine pages on the site feature long lists of dishes. There's no sense in this being the exception.
, apparently referring to the splitting off of extensive list content in favor of List of Greek dishes which it mostly duplicated, as explained in the above § Lists. The argument doesn't seem like a strong one in this case, see for example: WP:OTHERCONTENT, and it goes against MOS:LIST: "Articles are intended to consist primarily of prose". No explanation was given for the mass revert of the many other edits, and none is apparent to me. --IamNotU (talk) 22:38, 8 October 2020 (UTC)

- Explanation was given. There are plenty of other national cuisine pages that list foods like that and don't have them necessarily in a separate page. But I guess the one for Greece is the exception just like with the information in the Greek section on the Med cuisine page. This site is a joke.

- Since there is a separate article List of Greek dishes, it is superfluous to list them here.
- Issues with the Mediterranean cuisine page belong on its own Talk page, not here.
- Your sarcastic tone is also not appropriate for WP. We try to assume good faith on the part of other editors and keep discussion civil. Reverting to your preferred version repeatedly is not the way to "make friends and influence people" here. Civil discussion on the Talk page, ideally citing WP policies, is the way to advance things. Misinformation, bias and favoritism is worse than sarcasm, though. But seeing a Greek person, or of Greek origin (judging by your name) disagreeing with me on the matter is more than enough for me to ditch the site. I won't bother you anymore. In the end, there are certainly other sites offering more accurate information about these things instead of Wikipedia. Bye.

Wikipedia’s Greek cuisine
editToday the English content of the English Wikipedia article, that were articles about Greek food, has been deleted. We read that foods should be placed in the article, but we didn't see anyone doing this task from those who deleted the content. We did the work and you erased it without you doing anything at all. The article "Greek cuisine" had too many visitors before because it had exactly content about Greek food that we placed, instead before for years it was refused with no visitors. It makes no sense to participate any longer in an encyclopedia that cuts content that is 100% relevant to the article, history and culture of Greece, e.g. paximathia, frygania (zvieback), Bekri meze, Strifti pie, Fides, Boxas, Koukia, Kapamas, Pastrokio, Kok, Pougi, Sikopita, and others.
