Hans von Kaltenborn → H. V. Kaltenborn — Unsigned move request added by Pepso2 (talk · contribs) [1]. Ucucha 17:53, 14 February 2010 (UTC)
- He used the professional name H. V. Kaltenborn in print and on radio. Most of his regular listeners never knew he was "Hans von." The move is blocked by the redirect. Pepso2 (talk) 20:49, 14 February 2010 (UTC)
- Support. Use the name by which he was and is actually known. Septentrionalis PMAnderson 20:10, 15 February 2010 (UTC)

Assistance to H. V. Kaltenborn
editA forefather of my family was Karl Korter / Kohn (1894-1956). Journalist of the Prager Tagblatt in Prague. At last living in NYC Upper West Side and has been NBC News Managing Director in the Rockefeller Center / Manhattan. In 1938, soon after his arrival in NY for preperations of the New York Worlds Fair 1939, the Munic Pact was signed. Short before WW II. He and his wife Alice could'nt get back. To that time - or furthermore - he should assist H.V. Kaltenborn. Who likes to Know more about Karl and Alice Korter? Put it down here. See also http://multiculturalcanada.ca
I am an old man in Germany and don't write and speak English very well. Maybe there is somebody else who will supplement the main page.

Boycott of Kaltenborn's sponsor
editThis article doesn't include what was perhaps the penultimate moment of Kaltenborn's career when he lost the commercial sponsorship of General Mills and was thrown off the air at CBS.
In the "old days" of radio and then television broadcasting, a program would have but ONE company paying; at some time in the 1960s, one agency of The Federal Government ended this practice; which one, and exactly when this happened, I do not know.
But I do personally remember television shows being paid for by ONE sponsor; "The Ed Sullivan Show" was Lincoln-Mercury, "Lassie" was Campbell Soup and one favorite network TV show ("Combat" starring the late Vic Morrow on ABC on Tuesday night) was sponsored by the R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company; all the commercials were for Camel, Winston and Salem cigarettes along with Prince Albert Pipe Tobacco.
And so it was with Kaltenborn; his sponsor at CBS was General Mills and Kaltenborn was, in general, rather loathe to do commercials but ultimately he was a practical man.
Unfortunately for Kaltenborn, his personal feelings during The Spanish Civil War showed through (he was anti-Franco) and many Roman Catholics in the US organized a boycott of General Mills and as a result, Kaltenborn was OFF THE AIR.
Fortunately, a new network, NBC along with a new sponsor (I think it was Carnation) "picked him up" and this great newsman was back on the air.
While I do not have specific dates and/or any sources to back up what I just wrote, this should be researched and be made part of this article of this principled and honest man. Satchmo Sings (talk) 15:20, 13 August 2010 (UTC)
Change in licensing for File:Hvkal.jpg
editAs a result of some research, I found the copyrights for these images were not renewed. Full details can be found on the file. Because of this conversation, am changing the licenses of the images in the NBC Parade of Stars portfolio to public domain-copyright not renewed. We hope (talk) 18:35, 16 June 2011 (UTC)
1948 presidential election
editThis article gives a rather different telling than the [article] about how Kaltenborn was reporting on election night. That article indicates that the returns were already showing a lead for Truman, which Kaltenborn constantly dismissed in what was an increasingly clear case of wishful thinking. 71.228.175.229 (talk) 01:37, 17 July 2011 (UTC)
Better image
editEven though H.V. Kaltenborn worked in radio, not television, surely there must be a better image of him available than a caricature. Since he's dead and one can't get a new photo of him, perhaps a frame-grab from one of the movies in which he appeared could be used under Fair Use. — Quicksilver (Hydrargyrum)T @ 18:16, 7 January 2017 (UTC)
