Neither Tapan Raychaudhuri nor Amal Kumar Raychaudhuri was as closely related to HCR as the term "nephew" in English would normally suggest; although in terms of Bengali kinship, each was technically a "nephew" of a sort. HCR's wife Suhashini was a patrilineal first cousin of TRC's father Amiya Kumar; and AKR's father Sureshchandra was a patrilineal cousin of HCR. Both families were neighboring zamindars in Barisal (Kirtipasha for TRC and Ponabalia for HRC/AKR, in Jhalokathi), and had joint family structures. The zamindar status accounted for the "Raychaudhuri" title; they were Baidyas by origin. rudra (talk) 10:10, 10 October 2017 (UTC)Reply
