Hemant Kanoria (born August 5, 1962) is the Chairman and Managing Director of Srei Infrastructure Finance Limited ("Srei")[1] [2]. It is one of India's largest holistic infrastructure institutions[3][4] with USD 5.5 billion of consolidated assets under management ("AUM")[5]. Hemant is also a Trustee of Kanoria Foundation[6], which under its umbrella has entities with a total asset base of USD 10 billion. Early life Hemant was born to Dr. Hari Prasad and Champa Devi on August 5, 1962, in Kolkata, India. He grew up with four younger siblings, Sanjeev, Sunil, Sujit, and Manisha Lohia. At the age of 17, he took to managing two family-owned flour mills post which, he went on to become an entrepreneur in the field of infrastructure equipment finance. Business Career
Hemant along with his brother Sunil, conceptualised Srei in 1989.Cite error: The Hemant is also the Chairman of India Power Corporation Limited ("India Power"), previously known as DPSC Limited.[11][12] The company has a diversified portfolio, with renewable and conventional modes of power generation, distribution and power trading[13]. Creating Employment through Entrepreneurship Hemant has been actively involved in driving rural entrepreneurship in India[14]. He created a business model under the brand 'Sahaj'[15] to make services like e-governance, e-commerce and e-learning accessible to people in remote geographies[16]. The initiative has opened up revenue opportunities for over 60,000 village level entrepreneurs ("VLEs")[17] who are providing these services through IT-enabled Sahaj service centers across India. Boards and Committees Hemant has over three decades of experience in infrastructure and financial services businesses. He is currently serving as Board Member in the Indian Institute of Information Technology, Guwahati[18], The Neotia University [19] and New Delhi Institute of Management.[20] He is also a Member of the India-Russia CEOs Council. Hemant has held several other positions such as President of Calcutta Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of the FICCI National Committee on Infrastructure and also served on the Board of Governors of Indian Instituted of Management, Calcutta ("IIM-C").
