Help with Sources

edit

I have known of this theory for probably a decade. But I currently am unable to find good resources on the web explaining the theory. I suspect there might be better information about it in books (since the theory originated in the '20s), but I can't think of where to start searching for such things. Maybe WorldCat?

Regardless, I have found that there were many news articles referencing this idea in the latter parts of 2008, when stock market disruptions were rampant worldwide, but the articles have little detail about the theory or the man. I only thought of the theory again when I literally gasped at the sight of dresses at the Golden Globe Awards this past Sunday.

Also regardless of whether it's a valid indicator on economic stability, it was once presented as a resonable theory, and I've seen valid correlations, and would really love to see crowd-sourcing help me find resources on this topic. Help in building this article would be greatly appreciated. Westleyd (talk) 10:57, 13 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

I am pretty sure I heard the theory while at high school in the late 1970s or early 1980s, perhaps attributable to Desmond Morris whose book, Manwatching, was very popular. The article says that Desmond Morris "revisited" the theory, but with the origin in George Taylor 1926 having been refuted in the article above, it is unclear where Morris could have been "revisiting." Perhaps the theory originated in Desmond Morris, who may have mis-attributed his own originality? Timtak (talk) 23:01, 9 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

Don't think that the theory is mentioned in The Naked Ape. However, Desmond Morris certainly mentions it, with a diagram, in Manwatching. --Redrose64 (talk) 17:48, 20 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
