Wrong Tank
editI checked the 1911 Encyclopædia Britannica, "There is another town in India called Tonk, or Tank, in Dera Ismail Khan district, North-West Frontier Province ...... Here Sir Henry Durand, lieutenant governor of the Punjab, was killed in 1870 when passing on an elephant under a gateway."
This is now Tank (Pakistan), not Tonk, India, amended link accordingly. Pahari Sahib 06:46, 12 June 2007 (UTC)
Useful source
editRoger T. Stearn, ‘Durand, Sir Henry Marion (1812–1871)’, Oxford Dictionary of National Biography, Oxford University Press, 2004; online edn, Jan 2008 [1] Confirms the circumstances of Durand's death: "Touring the frontier, on 31 December 1870 at dusk he rode on an elephant to visit the town of Tank. His howdah was crushed against the roof of the gateway and he was thrown to the ground, his head striking a wall. He died on 1 January 1871, and was buried three days later at Dera Ismail Khan". I'll see if I can find more sources, and edit the article when I get the chance. AndyTheGrump (talk) 01:05, 15 May 2013 (UTC)
