Merge into High-occupancy vehicle lane?

edit

I am working on the High-occupancy vehicle lane article at present. Would anyone object if I were to merge this article into it? Personally I think it would make a more interesting article if all the approaches to increasing utiliation were covered in one place. As a minimum I create a section of HOT lanes in the article. If no one has any particular comments at this stage I will create a formal 'merge' proposal. PeterEastern (talk) 18:45, 22 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

I don't have any objection. However, I strongly suggest that you go through the standard page merging mechanism used by Wikipedia. See Template:Merge. This will notify others of your proposal and bring attention to the merge process. --Tim Sabin (talk) 13:49, 23 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
Most certainly. Was initially just gauging interest or concern. For now I am working on the other article and when I happy with it will suggest a merge. Thanks for the comment. PeterEastern (talk) 22:32, 23 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

So how does this work ?

A manual ( human ) toll collector can attempt to visually check how many people are in the automobile. How does electronic tolling systems achieve this ?Eregli bob (talk) 11:53, 3 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

They don't directly. I added a paragraph to the article (see here) explaining how enforcement works. --FastLizard4 (talkcontribs) 07:10, 4 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

High occupancy/toll and express toll lanesHigh-occupancy toll lane – Please place your rationale for the proposed move here. PeterEastern (talk) 08:26, 22 January 2015 (UTC) I propose that we move this article to 'High-occupancy toll lane'. The current title is a mess given that it is actually two titles combined; it also uses the plural rather than the singular and uses the more fussy 'high occupancy/toll lane' style rather than the more common version proposed here. Another reason is for consistency with the article titled High-occupancy vehicle lane. I do however note that there is significant usage of 'high occupancy toll lane' and 'high occupancy/toll lane' with and without capitals, all of which are candidates. It may also be worth noting during this discussion that the styling of 'High Occupancy Vehicle lane' appears more commonly than the current WP article title 'High-occupancy vehicle lane', possibly to emphasis the abbreviation to HOV. We could therefore choose to move both articles. Thoughts? PeterEastern (talk) 21:45, 18 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

The above discussion is preserved as an archive of the proposal. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on this talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

This article should be moved to Express toll lane (a redirect to this article), because that the broader subject. HOT lanes are a simply type of ETL in which high-occupancy vehicles are allowed to drive without charge. AHeneen (talk) 03:09, 19 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

However... HOT lanes are far more common and is also the subject of the article. As such I think it is appropriate to note that there are a few roads with variable pricing without exemption based on occupancy, but retain HOT as the subject of the article. PeterEastern (talk)
