Bonnie O'Neal entry
editThe entry on the timeline for Bonnie O'Neal has several problems.
- The claim regarding transitioning is unsourced.
- The extensive quote from the obituary is both a copyright concern and spends space on material of dubious relevancy to this page (though it would be quite relevant to a page specifically on O'Neal)
- The dates just don't add up. O'Neal was born in 1943, and if she transitioned in 1969 and served 12 of her 32 years as a woman (presuming she never transitioned back - and given that her obit presents her as a woman, that seems the case), that means she served 20 years before then as an officer presenting as male.... which would take us back to 1949. I sincerely doubt that she started in the police force at age 6 (she would scarcely have had time to get her doctorate and serve in the Air Force by then!) If we're trying to say she began her transition in 1969 but some later date gets to count as "fully transitioned", then that should be stated.
I suggest that @LGBT Car54: review that section and at very least clarify what is being said, and correct it if need be. --Nat Gertler (talk) 15:46, 8 September 2016 (UTC)
Title
editI see several problems with the title:
- use of LGBT as a noun, rather than as an adjective is awkward;
- but even if one accepts it as a noun, the use of the adjectival prep. phrase of LGBT to modify History is problematic: it's not "History of LGBT" in anything, it's "History of [a subtopic of] policing", or "History of policing [of subgroup]". The type of history this article deals with, is "policing"; so it could be "History of policing..." but not "History of LGBT".
- The article is in List format, and more specifically, in timeline format. It should probably be, "Timeline of..." and not "History of...", which brings to mind a prose style article, such as, e.g., History of LGBT characters in animation.

- Fair point and others are discussing this elsewhere. I've changed the title from LGBT to LGBTQ already, but a WP:BOLD move to Timeline of policing LGBTQ people may be helpful. Lewisguile (talk) 07:10, 17 September 2024 (UTC)
