Removed citation
editI removed this text: The film's message is characterized by its final words, "The banner is greater than death". ref name=Rentschler69 Eric Rentschler, The Ministry of Illusion: Nazi Cinema and Its Afterlife, Cambridge, Massachusetts: Harvard University, 1996, ISBN 9780674576391, p. 69. /ref because the cited reference does not say that, and I could not figure out what else to quote from that reference (it's quite academic, and a little over my head), but I mention it here so that anyone else can read the book and hopefully quote something from it later. -- leuce (talk) 18:51, 6 October 2019 (UTC)
- It's quite inaccurate as well. The final words of the film are “Uns're Fahne flattert uns vorans”, i. e. “Our Banner flutters before us”. This is the first line of the refrain, whereas “[Ja] die Fahne is mehr als der Tod” is the last line. Steepleman (t) 07:11, 26 August 2021 (UTC)
- Thinking about it again, I forgot that the film ends with the song sung in full, so that are indeed the correct last words. I was thinking of the last words of Völker in the context of the story. Steepleman (t) 05:00, 27 August 2021 (UTC)
Differences between novel and film
editI have added some differences between the film and novel which stood out to me, having watched the film and read the novel. The film is a very loose adaption of the novel in many ways. Steepleman (t) 09:24, 21 January 2021 (UTC)
